Title:
Choosing the Best Birth Control Method

Word Count:
622

Summary:
Several factors come into play when deciding which method of birth control is best for couples. With so many contraceptive methods available and so many factors to consider, choosing a birth control method can be difficult. This article provides different types of birth control methods a couple can choose from.

Article Body:
Becoming pregnant and giving birth is something a couple should give much attention to. But some circumstances in life may delay plans of couples to have children. If you and your partner don’t want to have a baby at this time, there are many different products that can help prevent pregnancy, there are various birth control or contraception methods available.
Birth control or contraception is a course of therapy of one or more actions, devices, or medications that prevents pregnancy. The mechanisms responsible for lessening the possibility of the fertilization of an ovum by a spermatozoon can be precisely referred to as contraception.
Some types of birth control are available without a doctor’s prescription. They have no side effects for most people. But some people may be allergic to them and get rashes if they use them.
Probably one of the most popular birth control methods for a long time now is the use of condom. Condoms are a barrier method of contraception that, when used consistently and correctly, can prevent pregnancy by blocking the passage of semen into the vaginal canal. Condoms can also prevent the exchange of blood, semen, and vaginal secretions, which are the primary routes of STD transmission.
Aside from condom, there are other birth control methods that are available. Learn about the different kinds of birth control to help you choose the best one for you.
· The birth control patch is a thin, beige, 1¾-inch (4½-centimeter) square patch that sticks to the skin. It releases hormones through the skin into the bloodstream to prevent pregnancy.
· The birth control pill also called “the Pill” is a daily pill that contains hormones to change the way the body works and prevent pregnancy. Hormones are chemical substances that control the functioning of the body's organs. In this case, the hormones in the Pill control the ovaries and the uterus.
· The birth control shot is a long-acting form of progesterone, a hormone that is naturally manufactured in a woman's ovaries. The shot is given as an injection in the upper arm or in the buttocks once every 3 months to protect a woman from becoming pregnant.
· A cervical cap is a small, thimble-shaped cup made of rubber that fits over the cervix. It is considered one of the barrier methods of birth control because it provides a physical barrier between a male's sperm and a female's egg.
· The diaphragm with spermicide is put into the vagina before sex so that it covers the cervix, or neck of the womb. The diaphragm must stay in place at least 6 hours after intercourse, but not for more than 24 hours. If you have sex more than once while wearing the diaphragm, you must add more spermicide without taking the diaphragm out. Spermicide is available without a prescription at drugstores.
· An IUD (Intra-Uterine Device) is inserted into the womb by a doctor. Two types of IUDs are now used in the United States: the Paragard Copper T 380A, which releases copper, and the Progestasert Progesterone T, which releases progesterone, a form of progestin. The Paragard IUD can stay in place for 10 years. The Progestasert must be replaced every year. A doctor must remove it.

Several factors come into play when deciding which method of birth control is best for couples. With so many contraceptive methods available and so many factors to consider, choosing a birth control method can be difficult. Overall health, age, frequency of sexual intercourse, the number of partners you have, and whether you desire to have children in the future must all be considered before deciding upon a birth control method. If you have certain health problems or other risk factors, some brands of birth control may not be the safest option.

Choosing the Best Online Pharmacy for You

Word Count:
517

Summary:
Online pharmacies are convenient means of availing quality health care services such as prescription medications. However, the presence of too many choices can leave consumers confused in choosing the best online pharmacy for themselves. This article discusses the qualities of legal online pharmacies and provides tips on choosing one.

Keywords:
best online pharmacy

Article Body:
Online pharmacies are among the most convenient innovations that came out of ecommerce. However, they also provided dishonest individuals another chance to dupe others into divulging personal information like credit card numbers. Since there are too many of them out there, it can be hard to distinguish among fraudulent sites and real online pharmacies.

Qualities of legal online pharmacies

Like all other authentic entities, there are certain defining characteristics that set real online pharmacies apart from fraudulent ones. These characteristics include:

- Adequate product information

Online pharmacies are required by FDA regulations and U.S. law to provide consumers information on the product's functions, limitation, contraindications, indications, and side effects should be provided.

- Secure and confidential environment

Accreditation from the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organization is a sure sign of a secure online pharmacy. Legal online pharmacies also have confidentiality policies that protect a consumer's privacy rights.

- Competent customer support

Since they have nothing to hide, legal online pharmacies provide their customers with means of contacting them for inquiries or potential complaints. Contact information can take the form of email addresses, chat clients, and fax and phone numbers.

Aside from these three primary qualities, legal online pharmacies sell only FDA-approved drugs, discounted and competently priced medications, and require prescription for prescription drugs.

Some tips on choosing an online pharmacy

Once you have identified which pharmacies are legal, you can choose which one best suits your lifestyle. The following tips can help in choosing the best online pharmacy for your lifestyle:

1. Identify your basic health care needs.

Identifying your health care needs puts you in a position to assess whether an online pharmacy can work well for you. If you need common prescription medication and standard OTC drugs, any online pharmacy can deliver these goods right at your doorstep. However, if you need specialized prescription medication, you probably have a better chance in signing up for a major online pharmacy.

2. Consider consultation services.

Keep in mind that it is illegal to buy and sell prescription medicines without a valid prescription. A prescription is only valid if it is signed or approved by a licensed health practitioner after an examination of your physical condition or a thorough evaluation of your self-reported medical history. If you have no aversion to personal consultations or have some free time, you may want to go for an online pharmacy that relies on traditional prescription. However, if you are busy or uncomfortable with personal consultations, you may want to sign up for an online pharmacy that allows for remote consultations.

3. Opt for an online pharmacy that is easy to use.

Dealing with complicated order processing or registration at online pharmacies can be tough if you are not tech-savvy. Aside from this, complicated processes can cause confusion and be time-consuming. As much as possible, opt for an online pharmacy that is easy to navigate with a simple ordering process. This way, there are lesser chances for mistakes in placing your orders.

Online pharmacies are convenient, but only if you know how to choose a legal one that fits your lifestyle and health care needs.

article:

The apt combination of chair and cushion will allow you to sit in a neutral and stable posture and to operate the chair safely. Cushions come in an assortment of depths and sizes which need to be accommodated by the size of wheelchair frame. Obviously, you need to make a decision which cushion is best for you before you can make a decision about which chair is best.
Cushion design is by no means an easy subject. There are many choices to make as you decide on the right one for you. To boot, let us be familiar with cushions. There are four basic types of cushions - foam, gel, air floatation, and urethane honeycomb. There are also designs and systems for more specialized needs.
Foam technology has come a long way. It now comes in a range of densities with varying degrees of memory, holding its shape as you sit, contributing to your stability. The new foams can adapt to any shape, and still provide even support, spreading pressure across the sitting surface. On the downside, foam wears out faster than other materials and loses its shape, but because of its lower price, this might not worry you.
Gel cushion designs endeavor to substitute the consistency of atrophied muscle tissue. Gel fluids are placed in pouches and usually attached to a foam base, so that the cushion matches to the pressures put on it. Unfortunately, gel cushions are much heavier than other types, which can cancel out some of the benefits of your lightweight wheelchair. Gel leaking can also happen.
Air floatation cushions, on the other hand, support the body entirely on air. Air cushions can be less stable for those who move around a lot in their chair, but recent designs offer either low profile or quadrant options that minimize this problem. The balloons used in air cushions can be pricked, of course, and leaks do occur, although a fairly heavy duty rubber is used. But patching them is easier than with the gel design. The biggest drawback to air cushions is that they require more maintenance.
Thermoplastic urethane honeycomb cushions are the most recent development in cushions. These cushions are able to distribute weight evenly but there is no risk of leaking gel or of an air bladder being punctured. The many open spaces in the beehive structure of the cushion allow air to travel more efficiently. Urethane honeycomb cushions are very light, absorb shock, and a low profile cushion can provide significant support.
The latest exploration regarding cushions is the use of an air pump to create alternating pressure to those with more severe disabilities who cannot perform their own weight shifts to relieve pressure. Sitting for a long period of time without relief from pressure causes the separation of muscle and fatty tissues, as a result, the delicate skin layer has closer contact with the bone causing more pressure on the skin. Lack of air circulation increases the temperature between you and the cushion. Moisture, on the other hand, is trapped against the skin. This may further cause sores.
An example of alternating pressure solution is the ErgoDynamic Seating System from ErgoAir in New Hampshire. It pumps air into and out of alternating portions of the cushion. Some of the alternating pressure products are heavier because they uses batteries and air pumps and like air floatation cushions, susceptible to puncture. Nonetheless, the technology for these innovative systems is likely to advance further in the future, as new materials and batteries are developed.

Choosing the Best Wheelchair Lift

Summary:
Finding the right wheelchair lift for your home or vehicle does not have to be an ordeal.

Keywords:

Article Body:
Determining which is the best wheelchair lift can sometimes be confusing. Some things to consider before making your purchase are how you plan to use the lift, and what specifications that you need. You should determine first whether you need a vehicle wheelchair lift or one for your home. Home wheelchair lifts are very beneficial in helping those confined to wheelchairs to enjoy more mobility and independence. They can lift you up flights of stairs, or from a lower level garage to the main level of your home.

Finding the right wheelchair lift for your home simply depends on knowing what you need before you purchase. You should note the weight capacity that you will need, as well as the size of the lift. If you do not have room for a larger model lift, then you will obviously need to skip those and compare pricing and functionality of a smaller, more compact model. Either way, if you do not know exactly what your personal requirements are before you purchase a lift, then you run a large risk of ending up with a lift that will do you no good, or one that you can not use.

Some things to keep in mind when choosing the lift for your home also include choosing the correct material. You need to ensure that the material will not cause any allergic reactions in the person using it. For instance, if you are the one using the lift, and you are allergic to specific materials, be sure to no include lifts made from those materials in your search. You should also keep in mind the operation mechanism itself. If you want a power operated model, or need one for various reasons, then be sure to not include manually operated models in your search.

Which leads us to the search itself. Comparing different prices and different specifications is the absolute best way to find the most optimal wheelchair lift for your home, or for your vehicle. By noting the various models, their function capabilities, their weight capacities, and their pricing ranges, you can make a much more informed decision in the buying process. You should know beforehand exactly what you are looking for. You can then simply skip over models that do not offer the specifications that you need, and compare those that do. Be sure also to research the various manufacturers to ensure that you are purchasing a high quality lift, preferably with a warranty, just in case you need to have repairs done, or in case the lift does not work properly upon installation.

A wheelchair lift is a wonderful thing to add to your home to give you the freedom and independence that you need to do the things that you want in your daily life. Choosing the correct lift is vitally important to retain your freedom and independence. Never buy a lift that you have not researched and make sure that you trust the company that you are purchasing it from.

Choosing the Birth Control Method That's Right For You

Word Count:

Summary:
This article discusses the evolution of birth control methods. Due to constant
innovation, there are now a number of birth control methods with varying degrees of cost and effectiveness.  By discussing the concepts of contraception and the levels of effectiveness of these methods, women would gain more knowledge about the factors, risks, and benefits associated with birth control.

Keywords:
birth control method

Article Body:
The term 'birth control' almost always conjures images of birth control pills of different sizes and colors.  For many years, the public has been led to believe that the use of the “Pill” is the only effective chemical and hormone-based contraception available.  Of course, the use of the prophylactic condom is very popular especially among men.

However, it is very beneficial to know that there is actually a wide range of contraceptive methods and products. There are several birth control methods that a couple can use to prevent or delay pregnancy. Contraceptives are most often described in terms of how effective they are. a method that is 99 percent effective allows only one woman in a hundred to get pregnant over the course of one year. If no method of birth control is used, there is a 30 percent chance of becoming pregnant each month--which can lead to about 80 percent of women becoming pregnant during a year of regular intercourse. The failure percentage of any given birth control is simply determined by the percentage of women who get pregnant in one year, despite using that specific kind of birth control.

Different methods of calculating the rate account for the several pregnancy rates quoted for a given birth control method. When two birth control methods are used simultaneously, their effectiveness multiplies, so that even two relatively ineffective birth control methods can offer better protection. Understanding the various factors that contribute to the effectiveness of a birth control method is also important. Whether one actually uses the chosen birth control method or if it justs stays in the bedside drawer certainly affects how well it works. Aside from the type of birth control that one uses, a person's age also influences the chances of getting pregnant. If  a 45-year old has low fertility to begin with, she can opt for a less effective birth control method. Women who are in their sixth month of breast feeding are similarly “sub-fertile.” Teenagers, on the other hand, have high failure rates with most birth control methods so it is recommended that younger women who are sexually active use a double method of birth control, such as condoms and pills.

Contraceptives can also offer other benefits besides preventing pregnancy. Many other barrier methods in birth control can also help in protecting against sexually transmitted diseases. Some of the hormonal methods can improve acne, treat menstrual cramps, and even decrease the chance of your developing certain cancers later in life.

The secret behind choosing what birth control method is right for you starts with knowing who you are, and knowing your partner.  The next step is to determine the reliability of the method you want to use.  When choosing, consider the advantages and disadvantages of the specific birth control method and how one can tolerate the possible risks and inconveniences of each choice. Think about whether you want a birth control method that will be used only when you have sex or a pill that you have to take every day regardless of your sexual activity. Do you want something that you can buy off the shelf at the drugstore or a method that must be prescribed by a physician? How effective a method do you need? How would you feel if your method failed and you became pregnant? These things can help one in choosing the best birth control method for them.

Knee braces - also known as knee supports and knee pads - are used primarily as protective gear to address several physical conditions and prevent knee-related problems. These braces are a prominent fixture in sports medicine, particularly with injured athletes. Some sports medicine experts classify knee braces into two simple categories. Functional knee braces are used by patients with an ACL tear, damaged ligaments or other injuries to substitute for the injured body part. Individuals using these braces are able to continue doing some activities without requiring surgery. Although functional braces will never be a perfect or permanent replacement to normal ligaments, they definitely offer adequate protection in low-load situations, giving the knee greater stability compared to having no braces at all.

1. Consult Your Doctor

One who is considering wearing a functional knee brace should consult with a doctor. The decision to use the brace would depend on the particular ligament injured, the sport the individual plays, rehabilitation work taken, and other factors. An injured athlete must realize that strengthening, physical therapy and rehabilitation are more important than using a knee brace, which may help prevent a re-injury but not hasten or contribute much to the recovery or healing process.

On the other hand, prophylactic knee braces are more of a preventive measure for healthy athletes. However, research has yielded unclear results if such a brace prevents knee injuries. Although some athletes using prophylactic braces have shown lower MCL tears, other factors have also contributed to injury risk reduction. These factors include the kind of sport played and conditioning, position and other player attributes.

Apprehension has also emerged over the possibility that a prophylactic brace may actually be a hindrance to knee movement and even increase the likelihood of injury. Research shows that this is not the case, as long as the knee brace is correctly fitted and firmly in place.

2. Commercial Knee Braces

The Futuro Knee Support Stabilizing Large is one of several knee braces available in the market. The brace is designed to give athletes or individuals with weakened tendons, muscles or ligaments stable and comfortable support and prevent any re-injury. The Futuro can also be worn the whole day or when the user feels discomfort in doing some activities. The brace also does not hinder movement even as the knee is stabilized.

Magnetic therapy is integrated into Magnetic Wave Knee Support. This brace comes in small/medium and large/extra large sizes and features 12 magnets spread strategically in the neoprene material. The HoMedics knee support also applies heat therapy and cold therapy for aches, sprains and other injuries. The brace also fits the user securely with loop closures and a hook.

The single-size Mueller Sport Care Knee Support Open Patella is used for arthritic knees and minor strains and sprains. The support is made from a soft neoprene blend that enables body heat retention to relieve pain and help maintain knee flexibility. The support is also designed with an open patella, adjustable straps, stretch nylon, and trimmed, smooth edges to ensure a comfortable fit, prevent chafing and easy wear and removal.

3. Knee Braces With Specific Applications

- Arthritic knee braces are made for individuals with arthritis
- Tese braces are also called unloader braces
- These are designed to eliminate pressure on knee joints
- Post-operative braces are designed to immobilize knee joints after an injury or surgery
- Magnetic knee braces work on the assumption that magnetic fields promote various health benefits
- Elastic braces are the ideal option, as they adjust to the natural contour of the knee and leg

Choosing the right multivitamin can be a difficult undertaking. With so many choices on the market, its important to know a little bit behind the scenes in order to make the right choice. So what do you look for in a multi-vitamin? Well, that varies depending on your needs, but to fulfill the basic purpose of a multi-vitamin, it needs to contain a wide variety of vitamins and minerals. By now your probably thinking, ok, well i thought all the "multivitamins" did include the essential recommended daily intake? If that's what you thought, sorry to break it to you, but your wrong. In order to fulfill your recommended daily intake you would need to take, on average, 10 multivitan pills a day! Who wants to swallow 10 pills a day, I knowIi dont, if your with me, then read on.
Pills are simply not able to contain the required amount of ingredients to meet the recommended daily intake within a single capsule. The reason being, a pill requires other essentials before the vitamins and minerals can even be added. The pill needs to be stable enough to be ingested, in order for the active ingredients to be absorbed. Up to 80% of a pill can be filler, certainly they cant fit the daily recommended intake in the other 20%. Another reason pills are in-sufficient is the fact that the pill itself inhibits the absorption of the active ingredients. This means you aren't even getting all of the vitamins and minerals that are in the pill.
With that said, dont fret, there is a viable alternative to taking pills as your multi-vitamin. High potency liquid vitamins are the answer. With liquid vitamins you get the best all around benefit. Liquid vitamins have almost no filler in them whatsoever, in turn, you get larger quantities of the essential vitamins. Not all liquid vitamins are made equal however, but generally speaking, they all out-do a pill. The best liquid vitamins will give you 100% of your recommended daily intake for 10+ different vitamins, as well as a mixture of various other vitamins and minerals. Liquid multi-vitamins should not only be packed with the vitamins you need, but also provide general nutrition. If you are a vegetarian, make sure to check the liquid multi-vitamin to see if its a 100% vegetarian formula, many are not.
To sum things up, there is really no reason to take a multi-vitamin pill. Liquid vitamins compare in price, and beat pills in every other department. Choose your multi-vitamin wisely, and you'll be on the path to a heatlhier, more vibrant you!

Choosing the right playground equipment for Schools, Churches, Parks and Communities

Article Body:
For commercial use – It is important that you know a few things about your needs before we get started. It is a buyer’s market so there are many different options when looking for new commercial playground equipment. First, you must have an idea of the age group that the playground must be tailored to. Standard age groups are 2-7, 2-12, 2-5, 5-12, and 8-up. Next you must decide on the area where your playground equipment will occupy – what are the dimensions of the space? And finally, what is your budget for your playground project? Keep in mind that you will have installation and playground safety surfacing as an expense by the time your project is complete.

So on to the fun part – deciding on a design. There are many different pre-designed units that are available to manufacture but more than 80% of people choose to customize their commercial playground equipment. You can start with a simple idea that fills the limits of your project area—then add a slide here and a climber there, and the next thing you know, you’ve created everything that you could ask for in a playground.

It is also important to note that the size of the playground needs to accommodate the number of children that are expected to be playing on it at any given time. You will find that newer playground equipment—with a good design—will attract a lot of attention, and it would be a shame to have overcrowding on a structure that is likely to become a safety hazard. Overall, you will want to make sure that the playground equipment has at least the basics (climbers, slides etc.). If you have no idea where to start you might also find it useful to ask the kids what they would like. Have them all create drawings of their “dream playground,” then you’ll know that the final design you choose is based off the ideas of what the children want. After all, the children are the ones that will be using the playground equipment the most – hopefully.

Once you have decided on a design for the playground equipment you will want to make sure that you get an estimate which includes the cost, freight, tax and installation (if needed). The idea is to get all of your possible expenses laid out on paper so you will know the amount of funds you’ll need to buy the structure and have it installed. It is best not to do this in reverse, which would be to get the funds first and then pinch pennies to spend no more or no less than the budget provides. In some cases this is unavoidable but with enough planning, you can arrange to raise the money that you may not have to buy the commercial playground equipment that your community needs. Playgrounds are very expensive but when everything is complete you will create an environment for children where they will have happy memories which will contribute to their well-being now and later in life.

Article Body:
You’ll have a variety of different safety surfacing options including pour-in-place rubber, rubber mulch, rubber chips, wood fiber strips, artificial grass and compressed rubber tile. Now there is a difference when it comes to safety and durability. I’ll rank each type of surfacing on a scale of 1-5 from high, medium high, medium low and low (1) being the least safe or durable

5 for High
4 for Medium high
3 for Medium
2 for Medium low
1 for Low

(1) Wood fiber strips are the traditional surfacing material that has been used in playground safety for many years. However the durability is low with wood fiber, many playgrounds have surfacing that is moved or spread throughout a park causing a risk for fall heights. Many people who provide playground maintenance find that they often need to replace the wood strips several times a year. I give wood fiber strips a safety rating of 2 and a durability rating of 3.

(2) Pour-in-place was a growing trend in safety surfacing a few years ago because of its immobility and design options. You will find rounded edges or names that are designed into pour-in-place surfacing as well as different colors. The disadvantage with pour-in-place is that it will crack and fade within three years or less. You will also begin to see holes in the top layer (there are two layers) where the rubber has been worn. This is of extreme concern due to safety regulations on the minimum depth of surfacing for a given fall height. Since pour-in-place is fairly new, we’ve only seen this lack of durability within the past few years causing many people to stay away from this type of safety surfacing. I give pour-in-place a safety rating of 3 and a durability rating of 2.

(3) Rubber mulch is becoming the next generation of wood fiber. The same people that make this also make larger chunks that they refer to as rubber chips. Recycled material is sent through a unique process that cleans and colors the rubber so that it is completely safe for children and has color that lasts as much as seven years. I give rubber mulch and rubber chips a safety rating of 4 and a durability rating of 4.

(4) Artificial turf has been around for a while with some good improvements. The material is placed onto a base of spongy beads that act as a layer of cushioning, much like tilled dirt. Unlike dirt though, this base provides long-lasting safety for anyone who might fall and it allows water to flow freely throughout so that the turf doesn’t have water damage. I give artificial turf a safety rating of 4  and a durability rating of 5.

(5) Rubber Tiles are a well-established high-quality surfacing material. There’s only one manufacturer of rubber tiles that I would recommend: SofSurfaces has a patented locking system between tiles that created one massive surface for playground safety. This material is also very durable. SofSurfaces provides a solid 7 year guarantee on not only the color but the depth also. That’s THREE TIMES longer than the first three safety surfacing options. I give rubber tiles a safety rating of 5 and a durability rating of 5. If you budget allows, this is the ideal choice.

However, some people need glasses and do not wear them for one reason or another. Some reasons include, they cannot afford to go to the eye doctor, or they feel glasses do not look all that wonderful on them. Whatever the reason, it is very important to wear your eyeglasses if you need to.

There are several reasons one should wear eyeglasses if it has been deemed necessary. Primarily, so you can see. That makes sense does it not? In most areas if you are required to wear eyeglasses and decide not to, you will not be able to get your drivers license. Not to mention the fact, that you will certainly have a hard time seeing ahead of you or reading.

Additionally, headaches are common in those who are far sighted or near sighted and do not wear glasses. This is caused from the amount of work your eyes have to do in order to properly function.

Many people think if they are farsighted that they can just pick up any old pair of glasses at the grocery store and this will help them see clearer when looking at things close up. This is not true, while some people may have some good luck with this type of reading glasses, most of the population do not. You will still need to visit your eye doctor for a few reasons. First, because regular eye exams help to catch eye diseases right away when they can be treated more easily. Second, because many people require glasses that have a different prescription for each eye, and drug store reading eyeglasses do not offer this, which will lead to headaches.

You can choose eyeglasses that look great on you by following these tips. The frame shape should match your face shape. The frame size should fit with your face size and the color should repeat your best personal feature (such as eye color).

There are seven basic types of face shapes, before buying eyeglasses you should determine which category you fall under and buy glasses that fit. The seven basic face shapes are round, oval, oblong, base-down triangle, base-up triangle, diamond and square. Then you should also determine the color that best fits with your overall skin, hair and eye color.

There are many different types of eyeglasses available to you today. Fashionable eyeglasses are no longer hard to come buy or extremely expensive either. You can even get eyeglasses now, which change to sunglasses when you step out into the sun. They can cover lenses with an anti-reflective coat to prevent glare and annoying reflections.

You should visit your eye doctor once per year to once every two years for eye exams. Often as people get older the prescription strength changes in the eyes, which will give you the need for new eyeglasses. Of course, if in between eye doctor visits you notice that your eyeglasses are not working to par anymore, you should make an appointment for an eye exam right away.

Article Body:
When you start looking for a whey protein supplement, you will most likely consider a whey protein powder because these are typically less expensive than other types of whey protein. Whey protein powder can be just as effective as other types of whey protein products, but it is essential that you choose a quality whey protein powder.

Unfortunately, when you walk into your local health food store to purchase a whey protein powder, you will probably be expecting a qualified sales person who knows all about the products on the shelf. What you will actually - most likely - encounter is a teenager who doesn't know the first thing about body building, much less the products on the shelf in the store where he or she works. They are just there for the minimum wage paycheck. Even if the sales person is qualified to answer your questions, they represent their company - not you - and will suggest the product that nets them the highest profit, instead of the product that is going to net you the most benefit.

The first step is to know your protein, and to realize that whey protein isolate is the best choice. Whey protein isolate is sold in whey protein powder form. Learn to read labels carefully to ensure that you are getting the right product - the one that contains everything you want, as well as the one that uses a manufacturing process that doesn't filter out or reduce the beneficial nutrients of the product. Educate yourself, and you won't have to depend on a sales clerk knowing what you need….you will know, and you will know how to examine labels to find what you do need.

The next step is to ignore the prices listed for those whey protein powders. If you are making your selections based first on price, the chances are really good that you won't be getting a good product, and of course, there is no need to ask a sales person or to take the time to educate yourself. Your decision is already made, based on price. Don't make this mistake.

Next, look for the whey protein powders that are pure. This means that they do not include carbohydrates, and again, whey protein isolate is what you should be looking for. If you look simply for whey protein isolate, the choices become way less confusing. Otherwise, your eyes and senses will be assaulted with too many choices. You will see whey protein powder with other proteins. You will see whey protein powder with Casein. You will see whey protein powder with Soy. The choices go on and on, and in the end all you really need is a whey protein isolate powder.

Again, it cannot be said enough, it is vital that you educate yourself concerning whey protein powder before you start buying. Otherwise, you will find that you are wasting a ton of money on products that are not giving you the maximum benefits. Whey protein powder is important to body building, but it only counts if you use a quality whey protein powder.

It really chaps my hide whenever I see those commercials on TV with a woman MD-wanna-be hawking the latest diet pill. These “play-doctors” are usually wearing white lab coats, like they’re on the way to perform surgery and just thought they’d take time out of their busy schedule to tell you about this “latest medical breakthrough”. Don’t be fooled…It's all spin, trying to make it appear as if this woman (or man, I’ve seen them, too) is an actual doctor telling you about this latest prescription medicine to solve your weight problem. They even have the nerve to sell it to you in a bottle that looks just like something you would pick up from your local pharmacy.
With obesity and all its related health problems becoming more and more common in the general population, people are becoming desperate to try a “magic pill” that will help them lose weight. As a result, there is a lot of potential harm you can do to yourself if you don’t choose your weight loss supplements wisely.
While many health and fitness experts will tell you flat out not to ever use any supplements-ever-research has shown that some can be used with success under the right conditions.
First, consider whether you are in fairly good health to try one of these weight loss herbs. Are you under a doctor’s care for high blood pressure, diabetes, heart problems, depression or any other serious health problem? Taking any of these types of supplements can be very dangerous. Consult your doctor and get your other health problems under control before using any weight loss supplements.
Second, do your research on who is manufacturing the products. Are doctors involved in the process? What are their credentials? If you see that a doctor (or group of doctors) has been involved in the design and production of an herbal remedy for a health problem, understand that their professional reputation is on the line. Good doctors typically spend decades in medical schools and in clinical environments, practicing medicine. No one who has invested that much time and energy on their medical career is going to sacrifice their reputation for something they are not absolutely sure is going to work.
Third, read the label and research the ingredients. FDA guidelines for herbal supplements do not require standardized amounts. In some cases, you only need a trace amount of the herb in order to put the name on the label so look for the standardized claim on the bottle. That means the same amount is in every bottle. That can also give you a clue as to whether the price is right on a certain herbal compound. If it’s really cheap-or free-there’s usually a reason why;most likely, it’s because there’s very little of the active ingredient in the pill.
Also, look for the word “chelated” and “amino-acid-bound” which means that the minerals are absorbed by your body better and more effectively than the simple forms manufactured by other vitamin-mineral products.
Finally, you must realize that there is no such thing as a “magic weight loss pill”. You must follow a healthy diet and exercise regularly in order for these herbs to work the way you expect. Most good, quality weight loss supplements will enhance your weight loss efforts by increasing your metabolism and suppressing your appetite while you eat those good healthy veggies and take that 30 minute walk everyday.  The definition of the word "supplement" is "to increas, extend, or improve something by adding something to it. The best weight loss supplements are not meant to replace, only to supplement, a healthy lifestyle.

Take a Team Approach Before Buying
No parent should try to choose a chair for their child all by themselves," says Chris Seiberlich. "It's not that they aren't qualified to make decisions, but there are too many to be made by any one person. You have to think about a huge spectrum of issues.
Seiberlich is a physical therapist at Children's Clinics for Rehabilitative Services in Tucson , Ariz. She and her partner, Kimberly Becerril, an occupational therapist, are discussing how to choose and properly fit a wheelchair.
"For instance," Becerril says, "one of the most fundamental issues in choosing a chair is transportation. How will the chair be moved from home to school? If the answer is in the back of a station wagon, then a power chair is out. Even with a van, a power chair is going to need a ramp, because it's too heavy to lift in. A lot of our kids would benefit from a power chair, but unless the transportation issue can be solved, it won't be the right choice."
Becerril knows a number of children who have power chairs who leave them at school, and use a manual chair at home.
"During the process of choosing a chair, we do a lot of transfer analysis," Seiberlich says. "We want to know who's going to be doing them (transfers), and we want the parents to demonstrate how they're doing them. We can suggest ways to make it easier, such as use of a transfer board, or a Hoyer lift in appropriate situations.
"Most parents who've never seen a board are surprised by what a difference they can make," she adds. "Still, if they are lifting the child and the chair several times a day, they are at a big risk for developing back problems. We had one mother with bruises all over her legs from constantly lifting the chair. Choosing a lighter chair, and one with some removable hardware, can make a big difference."
Seiberlich and Becerril note that they can't make all the decisions regarding the choice of a chair, either.
"We want the involvement of those people who see the child on a regular basis," Becerril says.
"That means the parents, of course, because they know the child best. But we also want the school involved, especially the teacher or therapist who sees the child daily functioning outside the home. The issues at school can be quite different from those at home."
Becerril says that they also want the chair supplier involved, to tell them what's available. "We'll describe the need, and the supplier can describe what they have to meet it. We can make mistakes if we do it ourselves, but if we have the whole team, we can cover all the bases."
Lifestyle and Environment
What's the right style of chair? While this will depend on individual needs and preferences, Becerril offers some important guidelines.
"Lots of kids want the sports frame look: It's got a low profile and looks great. However, these frames are rigid: they can't be folded, and they can't grow with the child. So we wouldn't recommend one of these at least until they are finished growing. Even then, the transportation issue remains a problem."
Seiberlich adds, "We also would never recommend a chair without removable armrests or footrests. One of our clients who got a chair with rigid footrests went from independent transfers to requiring two people to move him. Luckily, we were able to recycle the chair to someone for whom it made more sense."
When it's time to choose individual components, Seiberlich and Becerril want to hear about lifestyle, terrain and environment.
"We can choose the wheels based on how rough the ground is around the home," Seiberlich says. "Here in the desert, we recommend airless inserts. One good cactus spine and you've got a flat! Back East, we've got to consider the mud, the snow and the rain."
"We also want to know about the inside of the home: Will an otherwise ideal chair have trouble getting through narrow doorways? If so, and there's no money to redo the home, we've got to change our thinking," Becerril says.
Social and educational factors come into play here as well. "Is the chair appropriate for the school setting?" Seiberlich says. "For instance, does the height of the chair put the child above or below classmates? Can we make small changes to get it looking more streamlined, if that's what the child wants? If we can think of these things up front, it can save a lot of time and expense later on."
Growing With the Child
Both the X-shaped cross brace (black) and the front frame sections (blue) can be replaced as a child grows.
And expense is a huge issue: A manual wheelchair with custom seating can cost $5,000, while a power chair might be four times that. A really good cushion alone might be $300 or $400. Becerril notes that most of this is covered by insurance for many families. "And if you buy the right kind of chair, one that can grow with the child, that investment can last 10 or 12 years. This is the child's mobility, and his independence. It's important to get it right."
What does it mean for a chair to grow with the child? The idea may be new to those who think of the clunky "one-size-fits-all" sling back chairs as the only type there is. Most chairs today can be widened by changing the cross brace supports underneath, and lengthened by replacing the front frame sections that hold the leg supports.
"With this system, we can take a child from a very young age through the teen-age years with the same chair. We can grow a chair from a seat that measures 10 inches by 10 inches to one that is 18 by 18. While there is some expense along the way, it's still cheaper than replacing the chair. And the frames are warranted for life," Becerril says. "Make sure you choose a color you're not going to be sick of in a few years!"
Seating and Support
One of the most critical decisions regarding chair options, and one for which professional input is most crucial, is the choice of a seating cushion.
"The basis for good seating posture starts in the pelvis," Seiberlich says. "We're looking to distribute the weight over as big an area as possible, for support, for comfort and to prevent skin breakdown."
She notes that pressure sores, or decubitis, are a critical concern with prolonged seating. For those who aren't in the wheelchair for many hours at a time, a flat seat may be appropriate. For more prolonged use, or when stability in the chair becomes an issue, a high-quality foam cushion becomes preferable. Other alternatives include air-filled or gel-filled cushions.
"Children with scoliosis (curvature of the spine), whether or not it has been stabilized with spinal fusion, may have some left-right tilt in the pelvis," Seiberlich says. "In such cases, we can use the seating system to minimize the effects of the tilt. Some of the kids are still flexible, so by raising the lower side, we may be able to level out the pelvis. On the other hand, if the tilt is fixed, we'll support the higher side, so it takes up some of the weight. Distributing that weight is the key."
Scoliosis also figures into the choice of the back. "We can't always use a standard flat back or sling back. We may need a molded back to match up to the spinal curvature. Again, we're trying to get more surface contact to lessen pressure," Seiberlich says.
Lateral supports may be an important element as well. "If the child does not have the trunk strength to maintain their upright posture, we need to do it with laterals. Even with spinal fusion, they may need them to help prevent tipping."
Becerril notes that a "tilt-in-space" chair may be appropriate for someone with very little trunk strength. This type of chair maintains the sitting posture, but tilts back to relieve some of the anti-gravity work for a while, combating fatigue. Recliner chairs, which allow a prone position, are used more often for those unable to tolerate the normal angles of seated posture.
Final Fitting
Once the chair has been ordered, Becerril says, expect a couple months delay before it arrives. "Authorization takes time, and typically we're dealing with several different companies, and it's a custom product. Nothing related to wheelchairs ever happens quickly."
Once the chair arrives, the hands-on fitting process may take two to three hours, Becerril explains. "Things come up you can't foresee. Also, we want to show parents the signs of an improper fit. It's not something you do once and it's done: Kids grow fast, and their condition can change fast, so you need to monitor the fit constantly."
Seiberlich adds, "We always want parents to be checking for redness, because this indicates too much pressure. They need to check the buttocks, the back, the feet, and the back of the legs. Anywhere the chair is making contact, there's the potential for too much pressure."
She offers an important rule of thumb: "There should be no more than three fingers worth of space between the front of the seat and the back of the legs. With any more than this, the seat is not providing enough thigh support, and the chair may dig into the legs. It also makes sitting more difficult, as you don't get the same amount of surface holding you up. Also, you need to make sure that the footrests are low enough to get full contact for the whole thigh." There should be at least half an inch between the hips and the side of the chair. The laterals shouldn't be too tight, and shouldn't dig into the armpits.
"Parents can make these adjustments, if they know what to look for," Seiberlich says. "But we like to see the child in his chair at least once a year, especially if he's still growing. And anytime they think there's a problem they can't fix, we want them to come in."
Maintenance
In addition to monitoring the fit of the chair, Seiberlich stresses the importance of regular maintenance. "The chair should be washed regularly, using a spray cleaner. Most cushions are washable, or have washable covers. A thorough inspection of the whole chair once a week is a good idea: Check the brakes, look for loose hardware, and check the tires and seat."
Becerril points out that change in temperature can change the inflation pressure of tires and air-filled or gel-filled seats. Simple problems can easily be fixed at home. More involved ones can be taken care of by the vendor, who will almost always do maintenance for free.
Finally, Seiberlich returns to the transportation issue to stress an important safety rule.
"Chairs are generally not crash-tested, and the pelvic strap that keeps you in the seat is not as strong as a seat belt. We recommend that a child be on the car seat, strapped in using the car's seat and shoulder belts." If needed for lateral support, a chest harness can be used as well.

Chrisopher Reeve has died. But his vision of a “Cure” has not. Mr. Reeve, who became a quadripilegic after a horse riding accident in 1995, was best known as advocate for stem cell research which promises cures for spinal cord injuries. Shortly before his death he had planned to get behind  a little known  biotech driven offshore By President Bush’s restrictions on stem cell research. The “Cure” didn’t reach Christopher Reeve in time. But a cure for the paralysis that plagued the star –and ultimately led to his death may be in the test tubes in a basement lab in a small carribean island.
People all over the world are mouning the actor and activist, but the scientists at Gen Cells Cures lab were particularly saddened  by the news. No one except the Actor and Gerald Armstrong of Gen Cells Cures new about  Mr. Reeve’s plans to get behind the research of the now disabled biotech. Spokesperson Gerald Armstrong had this to say. “Not only did President Bush restrict the research … there are no public funds for our research. All of our operations are completely shut down until we can locate private money. I cried when I heard the news, where do we go from here. Along with millions of other people I mourn Christopher Reeves passing and extend my sincere condolences to his family. I pray the world embraces Christopher Reeves family, as they grieve the loss of their husband, father and son.”
Chritopher Reeves taught people two words: Hope and Cures-- Without hope we have nothing. As for Cures… Gen Cells Cures will finish the work.

article:

I am Dr Patrick Flanagan, and this is the latest edition of my Dr Health Secrets newsletter.
Lately I have written about toxins in our water and food supply. This installment is about a toxin that got a lot of attention in Hollywood. This newsletter is about chromium 6 and its effects on your body.
Hollywood, Hollywood, Here I Come...
My guest today in my focus on toxic water can easily say, and with confidence, that it owes all of its success and great notice to one little Hollywood movie.
Yes, that movie was year 2000's Erin Brockovich, starring the caustic chromium 6, and co-starring the fabulous Mrs. Julia Roberts. The film publicized the chromium 6 poisoning of Hinkley, California by the powerful and successful PG and E Corporation, which ultimately resulted in an Oscar win for Julia Roberts, and the highlighting of a growing concern over toxic chemical plants and their poisoning of public drinking water.
Chromium-6 is used in dyes, pigments, leather tanning, wood preserving, and chrome plating.
Chromium-6 is a by-product of metal plating and is classified as a carcinogen when inhaled as particles or fumes. When chromium-6 gets into water, the effects are equally as damaging.
Out of 1,591 National Priority List sites identified by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), 1,036 were found to have chromium-6 in them.
Scientists as well as many health officials argue that no level of chromium 6 is safe for the human body. Water officials, however, argue that there is no scientific proof that any of these allegations are true. These “officials” say that there is not enough proof to verify that chromium-6 truly causes health problems, but a judge in Hinkley, CA readily disagreed.
This disagreement cost PG&E hundreds of millions of dollars, and cost a town pain, anguish, and devastating disease.
I am willing to stand behind hundreds of sick individuals much faster than I am willing to stand behind a state official that is required to make budget concessions as well as health decisions.
What’s The Verdict?
The health implications of chromium-6 run far and wide, and exposure, even in small amounts, can be deadly. Major corporations know the cost of cleanup, and even more importantly, they know the cost of lawsuit. What people don’t know won’t hurt them, but what they do know already has.
Health problems listed among those who have suffered from chromium-6 exposure include liver cancer, kidney failure, respiratory distress, circulatory problems, gastrointestinal ailments, reproductive problems, and other cancers of the brain and bodily organs.
Also cited as “lesser side- effects” were nosebleeds, headaches, benign tumors, hair loss, and many more. I have said it before and I will say it again; being bald with a bleeding nose while nursing a headache is not exactly my idea of “lesser side-effects.”
Light At The End of The Tunnel
Aside from educating millions of people on the hazards of chromium-6, Erin Brockovich also managed to scare scores of people into hospital rooms nationwide, searching and looking for any signs of toxic chemical exposure.
The fear is understandable, and it is much more real than many would care to think, but there are things that can be done to better the situation.
The best solution is get information about your local water supply (see RESOURCE BOX) and then to get a highly advanced water filter for your house. Quality filters can range in the thousands of dollars, but clean water is much cheaper and easier than medical problems later in your life. Nothing feels as good as a shower without chlorinated water!
Remember, the problem with drinking distilled water is that your body is designed to drink water with minerals in it. So try adding minerals to your water and see how you feel. And some mineralized bottled water sources are great, as long as they are rigorously tested as many premium bottled waters are.

The period of 1950s is known for the advent of steroids in sports. According to some unofficial sources, the Olympic team of Germany used oral testosterone substances in the 1936 Berlin Olympics. However, the first ever instance of steroids in sports occurred in the World Weightlifting Championship in 1954 when soviet team members, who were getting testosterone shots, literally swept all the major weight titles.

The 1954 World Weightlifting Championship was the turning point in the history of sports. After the event, John Ziegler, the team physician for the United States started researching on testosterone, and his efforts resulted in the creation of “Methandrostenolone” or “Dianabol” with the help of Ciba pharmaceutical company; Dianabol is believed to be the first ever of the anabolic steroids in sports.

However, the use of steroids in sports Olympic history begun in the late 1960s when Dianabol and some other steroids came to be widely used in sports. Soon, there were strong reactions against steroids in sports, and the first reaction against steroids in sports came from the International Amateur Athletic Federation, now the International Association of Athletics Federations that became the first international governing body to ban steroids in sports. FIFA, Union Cycliste Internationale (cycling), and International Olympic Committee banned the use of steroids in sports in 1966-67.

The period from 1980’s to 90s was the period of wide use of anabolic steroids in sports. It became public with Ben Johnson's 100 m victory at the 1988 Summer Olympics. The Canadian sprinter had to surrender his gold title when “stanozolol” (anabolic steroid) was detected in his urine samples. Later, he admitted the use of Dianabol, Cypionate, Furazabol, and human growth hormone.

The World Anti-Doping Agency was created in 1999 to check the use of steroids in sports. Presently, National Football League (NFL), Major League Baseball (MLB), national Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), FIFA, ICC, and the Olympic Committee have banned steroids and have strict policies against steroids in sports.

However, the use of steroids in sports is still going on. Steroids are widely used by the competitive as well as noncompetitive jocks. Surveys & studies on steroids in sports have revealed that 2.7% sports persons form US high schools use steroids in sports.

Not everyone with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease suffers from chronic asthma, but many individuals who experience emphysema or chronic bronchitis have asthma-like symptoms.  Medical experts continue to debate whether chronic asthma should be classified as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, since asthma can be reversed.
Chronic asthma is an inflammatory disease of the airways; the term asthma is derived from an ancient Greek word which means panting. With chronic asthma, the inflammation leads to the narrowing of the airways, which can cause wheezing, breathlessness, and gasping for air.
Studies indicate that chronic asthma involves two stages:  the hyper-reactive response and the inflammatory response.  The hyper-reactive response in chronic asthma refers to the constriction of the airways in response to inhaled irritants, while the inflammatory stage involves the production of white blood cells in the airways.
During a chronic asthma attack, the muscle tissue in the walls of the bronchi experiences spasms, causing labored breathing.  With chronic asthma, coughing, shortness of breath and wheezing occur almost everyday.  In order to combat chronic asthma, several medications may be needed.
Some medical experts speculate that the persistent symptoms of chronic asthma indicate a food allergy.  As a result, some doctors encourage those suffering from chronic asthma to revise their diets in order to reduce the incidence of flare-ups.
There are some other simple strategies one can follow in order to alleviate symptoms of chronic asthma.  These include removing the cause of chronic asthma, treating the symptoms, or altering the host to be more tolerant of the causes.
If you've been diagnosed with chronic asthma, medical experts suggest stopping all smoking and banning cigarette smoke from the house.  Chronic asthma patients should also stop the use of volatile chemicals, which may exacerbate one's symptoms.  Ending contact with pets can also alleviate chronic asthma.
The aims of any treatment program for chronic asthma should include:  avoiding the trigger factors for chronic asthma, eliminating symptoms, restoring normal lung function, reducing the incidence of severe attacks, and minimizing the side-effects of drugs.
Drug therapy for chronic asthma can fall into three categories.  Chronic asthma can be attacked with preventors or anti-inflammatories; relievers, which provide acute relief of symptoms; and controllers, which provide a sustained bronchodilator action with a mild anti-inflammatory action.
It should be noted that there are some misconceptions about the treatment of chronic asthma.  For instance, antihistamines do not appear to be an effective chronic asthma treatment strategy.  Immunosuppressives such as methotrexate are rarely beneficial for chronic asthma, and acupuncture has a negligible effect.
The basic goals of educating those with chronic asthma include an ability to understand the nature of asthma, an understanding of different types of asthma medication, an understanding of prevention strategies, knowing the correct use of inhalers, and recognizing signs of worsening asthma.
Interestingly enough, chronic asthma is often misdiagnosed in the elderly.  Also, older people are more susceptible to the side-effects of drugs used to treat chronic asthma.  As a result, senior citizens need special prevention strategies for chronic asthma.

Chronic Daily Headache: Same Old, Same Old

Word Count:

Summary:
Daily and near-daily headaches are common and disabling. Correct diagnosis of headaches can lead to effective treatment, decreased suffering and improved quality of life.

headache,chronic daily,migraine,tension,medication overuse,rebound,cluster,tmj,hemicrania,giant cell arteritis,analgesic,triptan,sumatriptan,rizatriptan

Article Body:
“Chronic daily headache” (CDH) refers to the unhappy situation in which headaches are present at least fifteen days per month. Headaches can even occur every day or almost every day. CDH is more of a category than a final diagnosis, and different, recognizable patterns of headache are included in this category. It is important to distinguish among the different patterns because, once recognized, they can indicate the underlying cause and dictate appropriate treatment.

CDH can occur in the form of either “primary headaches” or “secondary headaches.” Secondary headache means that the headache is a symptom of some other disease or process. In this case, the best treatment is the one that addresses the underlying cause. Primary headache means that the headache disorder itself is the disease and is not a symptom of something else.

The most common primary headache condition is “tension-type headaches.” Generally affecting the left and right sides equally, tension-type headaches often involve the back of the head and neck, but can also include the front of the head. These headaches are usually mild to moderate in intensity and have pressing or tightening qualities. Nausea, photosensitivity and sound sensitivity are not prominent in this headache disorder and tension-type headaches do not usually worsen with exertion.

Migraine is another common primary headache disorder which, when present more days than not, is also categorized as CDH. Migraine attacks typically last 4-72 hours when untreated. They are of moderate to severe intensity and often have a pulsating quality. They show increased tendency to affect just one side of the head and to include the associated symptoms of nausea, light sensitivity and sound sensitivity. They usually worsen with exertion.

While some people have frequent, individual, migraine attacks that span more than 15 days per month and are therefore categorized as CDH, another form of migraine involves a blending together of attacks into a more continuous, never-ending pattern. This usually occurs in people who previously had the more recognizable pattern of distinct, individual, migraine attacks. Just what happens in these cases--or even what to call it when it does happen--is a source of great debate among headache experts. One camp of experts calls it “chronic migraine” and another camp calls it “transformed migraine.”

To make matters even more interesting, a person can have more than one type of headache, for example, a mixture of migraine and tension-type headaches. When this occurs, the mixture can be difficult to distinguish from the previously mentioned chronic (or transformed) migraine.

Two other kinds of primary headache are rarer than migraine and tension-type headaches, and show quite different characteristics. These are “hemicrania continua” and “chronic cluster.” Hemicrania continua (“hemicrania” means half-headed and “continua” means continuous) is a strictly one-sided headache which can wax and wane in intensity without resolving. It does not include migraine’s usual associated symptoms of nausea, light sensitivity, sound sensitivity and exertional aggravation. Chronic cluster, like its less-frequent “episodic” form, involves intense, recurring pain in or around just one eye that lasts for only 15-180 minutes per attack, but which can occur more than once per day. Unlike its episodic cousin, chronic cluster does not go into remission without treatment.

Secondary headaches taking the form of CDH can be due to numerous causes. Among them are head injury, arthritis of the neck bones, arthritis of the jaw joints (TMJs), sinus disease, breathing problems during sleep, tumors or other conditions causing increased pressure within the braincase, and leakages of the cerebrospinal fluid that surrounds the brain and spinal cord.

Two secondary forms of CDH deserve special mention--giant cell arteritis and medication overuse headaches. Giant cell arteritis (previously called temporal arteritis) occurs in people who are at least 50 years old and becomes more common in subsequent decades of life. It involves inflammation of larger-diameter arteries supplying blood to the brain and the rest of the head and, untreated, can lead to stroke or blindness. So it is important to recognize and treat this source of headaches before these complications occur. Classically, people with giant cell arteritis show a swollen, stiff, tender artery just beneath the skin of one or both temples. When this occurs, it facilitates diagnosis, but giant cell arteritis can still be present in the absence of this tell-tale sign. As a rule of thumb, giant cell arteritis should be considered as a possible diagnosis in every new headache disorder starting at the age of 50 or older.

Medication overuse headaches (also known as rebound headaches) occur when a primary headache disorder becomes transformed into an even worse secondary headache disorder via too many doses of as-needed medication. Typically, the primary headache disorders involved are either migraine or tension-type headaches, and the transformation occurs when the headache-sufferer takes need-driven medication for them at least two to three days each week. When the as-needed medication is a painkiller this syndrome is called “analgesic rebound” and when a triptan drug is used, it is called “triptan rebound.” Triptans are newer drugs, which include sumatriptan (Imitrex) and rizatriptan (Maxalt), that interact with specific chemical receptors and halt the generation of migraine attacks. The bottom line with medication overuse headaches is that they don’t get better until the drug that caused them is withdrawn and, even then, can take up to two months to wash out.

The group of disorders known as chronic daily headache afflicts 3-5% of the worldwide population and is a source of major disability in the form of lost or decreased functioning at home and at work. While many people with CDH treat them on their own, medical management can reduce suffering and improve quality of life.

Chronic Depression Can Cause The Blues

Word Count:

Summary:
Depression is a common problem with many people from all walks of life and is never talked about openly. Why is this so? Depression can be a debilitating ilness that is suffered in solitude by many, with no one to talk to and expose their real feelings.

Chronic depression blues - Why do we feel so depressed? What makes us feel depressed? Will these feelings of depression ever go away?

I'm sure that most people have suffered from "the blues" at some stage in their lives, but for some people suffering from chronic depression, it is a lot like having “the blues” every day of the week. Does chronic depression set in and never go away? Why do some of us have to suffer like this and how often to you think to yourself 'just get over it and sort yourself out'?  How often do you think 'maybe if I just start exercising every day, take time out to read, try and create a more positive attitude, it will all be ok'.

The truth is by doing this it can help, but even though this easy technique sounds simple, it is not. When suffering from chronic depression it is very hard to motivate yourself even though you know that this is what you have to do. You feel so miserable that you just don't have the motivation to exercise or the concentration to read anything. It is very difficult to think positive thoughts when you're down and your mind is full of so many negative thoughts. At first you begin with a huge effort to do something. Maybe go for regular walks over a couple of days, or you may even go into a book store to buy a novel that you think you might enjoy. This action will sometimes improve positive thinking for a short time, but usually it seems like such an effort to keep it up.
In the end you cry out ‘who am I fooling’. You put the book aside or you stop walking. You are back to feeling depressed again. The problem is now you feel even more depressed because you tried and in your own mind you failed. This is not true. Start again.

Can these feelings of depression ever go away and stay away?  Do we need a mentor, a friend or even a relative who can help and guide us day after day? Can we organise to go on regular walks together or visit interesting places? Can they help to stimulate positive feelings within us? Can they make us laugh and be happy again?
Sometimes the problem with people, who have never suffered from chronic depression, is that they don't quite understand what it really is. They are generally feeling positive about themselves and don't understand how we feel. The common answer that most people will come up with to remedy your chronic depression is  'I wish they'd just get over it and move on'. It’s funny though. This is how I use to think about people with depression myself before I had it. So for a person who doesn't quite know what the feeling of chronic depression is like, would they really want to help someone on a daily basis to ‘get over it and move on’. You will never know until you ask.

Just a warning about befriending others. People with chronic depression will always feel more comfortable in the company of other sufferers. If you want to break the cycle and feel more positive about yourself, then you must only seek out positive people as close friends and mentors. When you are with positive people always try and imitate their positive feelings. Believe me. If you have chronic depression you will have to work very hard at this. Remember that people with positive feelings will try and avoid you if you are negative all the time.

Medication

For some with diagnosed chemical imbalances, medication such as antidepressants can be an alternative option. This medication generally gives a person with chronic depression a feeling of euphoria and well being. Medication works, but it only works if you use the correct amount all the time, at the right dosage. These drugs are a great tool to stimulate positive thoughts and an ‘I can do it’ attitude. But unfortunately these drugs only last for a short time and the side effects can be devastating. Along with the feeling of the withdrawal symptoms by removing the drug, you can sink to an even lower level of depression than before. This will happen very quickly and can sometimes be very dangerous to your well being.

Therapy

Talking to a professional therapist could be the answer for some people. A therapist is trained to listen and they do understand how you feel with chronic depression. Prepare to spend a lot of time with your therapist, so find one that you can trust. It will always feel better to talk about your depression to someone that you can trust. But like a drug the withdrawal symptoms of stopping your therapist visits can be just as disastrous.  Those negative feelings return again.

Face your fears. Why not stand up to you’re demons that are causing your chronic depression. Try and delve deep into yourself for that unpleasant experience or feeling and understand why you got depressed in the first place. Unfortunately you may have a chemical imbalance and only drugs or a change in diet may help.
But what if there is a bad experience that has triggered your chronic depression. Do something about it. You may even be depressed just because you haven’t taken any action at all. Tell yourself you can do it. You don't want to be depressed forever. Do something everyday that will change the way that you feel. Face your worries head on.

Say good bye to chronic depression and “The Blues” felling.

There is significant concern about Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, also known as CFS. In fact, there are criteria patients must meet in order to be diagnosed with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Receiving the diagnosis may be difficult for some patients because the guidelines for diagnosing are very specific. The fatigue must have been present at least six consecutive months and the corresponding symptoms must have developed after the fatigue. A clear definition of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, its symptoms, and treatment options will help sufferers get a clearer understanding of the syndrome.

What is Chronic Fatigue?
The basic definition of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome does not make sufferers feel much better. The syndrome is unexplained and is marked by weakness, fatigue, muscle pain, lethargy, trouble sleeping, and even fever and swollen lymph nodes. There is no known cause for the fatigue that is present in an individual that has no relation to over-exertion and is not rectified by rest.

Symptoms
Some of the symptoms associated with Chronic Fatigue Syndrome have been discussed. However, there is a very long list. There are a variety of symptoms that patients are very aware of and then there are other symptoms only doctors seem to notice. Regardless, when the symptoms are present for a period of time for no apparent cause and seem to have no remedy then Chronic Fatigue Syndrome is a frequent diagnosis.

Some of the frequent symptoms of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome include:

- Muscle Aches
- Persistent Fatigue
- Intermittent Fatigue
- Depression
- Tiredness
- Headache
- Swollen Lymph nodes
- Depression
- Memory Loss
- Weakness
- Difficulty Concentrating
- Achy Joints

Frequently Chronic Fatigue Syndrome begins during periods when individuals have been sick, under a tremendous amount of stress, or for no apparent reason at all. Many individuals have noted that after bouts with the flu, mono, a cold, bronchitis, hepatitis, and other similar illnesses CFS arises. Unfortunately, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome persists for months, sometimes coming and going and other times constantly affecting the patient. Other illnesses begin to clear up after a few days or weeks, but Chronic Fatigue Syndrome sticks around with no clear cause.

Diagnosing Chronic Fatigue
Doctors find it very difficult to diagnose Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. The reason why is because so many of its symptoms are symptoms of other illnesses. This is why many doctors like to see patients with the same symptoms that began after the fatigue for at least six months before giving a diagnosis. Obviously, sufferers of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome find the lack of an early diagnosis difficult to bear on top of their symptoms. However, doctors like to rule out diseases like Lupus and Multiple Sclerosis, as well as other diseases, before diagnosing Chronic Fatigue.

Additionally, researchers and doctors are becoming more aware of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and are more likely to make an earlier diagnosis based on fewer symptoms than ever before. That is not to say that Chronic Fatigue Syndrome is easy to diagnose, because it is not. However increased awareness and new definitions are helping doctors and patients of Chronic Fatigue each and every day.

Treatment Options
The treatment options for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome are varied and include alternative as well as prescription alternatives.

Some of the alternative care management options for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome include avoiding stress and undertaking light exercise. Other treatment options that work for some individuals include massage, aquatic therapy, chiropractic therapy, yoga, self hypnosis, tai chi, and even acupuncture. Psychotherapy has also proven helpful to sufferers of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome because it helps sufferers learn to cope with their symptoms.

Prescription treatment options for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome have not been approved by the FDA. There are however other prescription medications that are used to treat the symptoms presented with Chronic Fatigue. Frequently, the primary use of the medicine is secondary and its side effects are what benefit Chronic Fatigue sufferers. Medicines like antifungals, antidepressants, antivirals, cardiac drugs, antihistamines, immunoglobulins, corticoids, anti-inflammatories, and anti-convulsants among others are frequently prescribed to CFS sufferers.

Do You Have CFS?

If you are worried you have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome or have some of the above stated symptoms for months on end then you should make an appointment with your physician. It is a good idea to keep a journal of your symptoms, when they began, and if new ones appear. This will help your doctor make the proper diagnosis and help receive some relief from your symptoms sooner.

Did you know that spending long hours at your computer can put your health at serious risk? Most people does not even consider that possibility, but t does, Working at a desk is extremely hard on your body, and I would like to share this with you so maybe you can avoid some of the most common health risks. One of the most common one is: Chronic Fatigue.
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome
Tired and troubled? Experiencing severe fatigue that lasts for months and go back over and over?
Feeling tired is common, and depression is a condition that everyone goes through from time to time. However, the chronic fatigue syndrome is not similar to the simple emotional ups and downs that we experience sometimes.
Chronic fatigue syndrome is medically known as myalgic encephalomyelitis, post-viral fatigue syndrome. It targets the central nervous system. People who have this disorder usually complain of severe fatigue that is aggravated even by simple exertion. The cause of chronic fatigue syndrome is not yet known, but some researches show that this might be incurable. Some cases disappear over time and some people use medications to relieve them of this disorder.
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome is medically defined as a severe chronic fatigue thats lasts six months or over but other medical conditions should have been ruled out before a diagnosis of CFS can be made. Chronic Fatigue Syndrome may be precipitated by an illness. It may be a cold, or a stomach upset, or may even begin after major stress. The symptoms of chronic fatigue syndrome are headache, muscle pain, inability to concentrate, tenderness in the lymph nodes, and fatigue that will not go away or may recur over the next several months. Patients also suffer from headache, non refreshing sleep, sore throat, myalgia or muscle pain, and body malaise for over a day.
In the past, people call CFS “yuppie flu” because it usually occurred on well-educated, well-off middle-ages women. Doctors also noticed that this disorder often occurred in people from mostly English speaking countries all over the world. Women have a two to four times increased risk of getting the chronic fatigue syndrome than men.
The CDC or Center for Disease Control and Prevention estimated that over 500,000 people in the US have been diagnosed to have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Diagnosis of CHF is difficult because it has similar symptoms as the other illnesses. The physician will first evaluate your condition and ask questions to rule out other diseases that may have the same symptom. When everything has been eliminated, it is only then that the physician will come to a diagnosis of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.
It is important that patients who are suffering from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome learns how to manage their moods and know what to do whenever the disorder hits. Health providers suggest that people suffering from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome should try to always try to get adequate rest. Patient should also try to get a regular exercise, eating a balanced diet, and trying to pace yourself whenever stress gets too much that you find it difficult to handle.
Patients will also benefit from medications to treat Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. The doctors usually prescribe a lower dose of anti-depressant because it might increase the level of fatigue of the patient or the frequency it occurs. But it also helps to reduce the pain of people with the disorder.
Chronic Fatigue Syndrome may be mistaken with other illnesses which have the same presentation. These are fibromyalgia syndrome, neurasthenia, and chronic mononucleosis.
Other conditions that may also result in fatigue include thyroid problems especially hypothyroidism, eating disorders, autoimmune diseases, hormonal disorders, infections, narcolepsy, alcohol dependence, substance abuse, drug reactions, psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia and bipolar affective disorders.
It is important to consult with a physician to evaluate the symptoms the patient is having and to make sure that the patient does not have any other organic or systemic diseases that might cause excessive long-standing fatigue. Some people also find it comforting to seek the help of other people like rehabilitation experts to fully understand the patient's condition. Some also talk to other patients who are undergoing the same condition.
There are other risks as you sit in front of that computer but it would be to much to write about in this article, so if you would like to learn more about other risks such as:

Eye strain
RSI (Repetitive Stress Syndrome)
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Constant Head Aches
Dizziness
Breathing Problems
Difficulty Concentrating

For the thousands of individuals who currently suffer from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), the causes of this mysterious illness remain a mystery.  Reputable medical institutions, including the Centers for Disease Control have launched research efforts into discovering the reasons why some individuals contract CFS and what can be done to alleviate the symptoms.

Originally termed “yuppie flu” by the media, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome was thought to be caused by the Epstein Barr virus, or mononucleosis.  In the late 1980's, it appeared that the only individuals who suffered from yuppie flu were the young, upwardly mobile, urban professionals who, because of their busy lifestyles, of course were tired!  With further investigation, medical professionals discovered that many other individuals were suffering from the unexplained symptoms of this illness.  Even though the medical community has published studies that bolster the reality of this illness, sufferers continue to find that the “yuppie flu” designation still prevails.

Many individuals who suffer from CFS have reported that they became ill with a virus before later noticing the symptoms now attributed to Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.  Researchers now believe that a virus, although not responsible for CFS, may cause damage to the neurological system of the individual who later suffers from symptoms of CFS.

During the course of what may well be a relatively harmless virus, areas of the brain may sustain damage which then results in the symptoms of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.  For some reason, this damage may be permanent or transient - or at least the symptoms caused by the damage may be.  Some individuals who suffer from CFS find that their symptoms may lessen or completely disappear in time, and still others find that they may experience a “remission” of sorts, only to have the symptoms reappear at a later time.

This “Brain Injury” theory is the most prevalent at this time and appears to provide the most rational explanation for Chronic Fatigue Syndrome to date.  As the control center of the body, the brain, when unable to function normally, can cause a host of mysterious symptoms that are unexplained by any known medical illness.  Further research into the causes of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome should provide the answers to why some individuals suffer from this brain injury and others do not.

You may have noticed that Chronic Fatigue Syndrome /M.E. /Post Viral Fatigue Syndrome is a very misunderstood illness...
...and this is perhaps why there are so many myths about it.
Perhaps the most common myth about Chronic Fatigue Syndrome is that it is effectively a mental condition, and another name for depression.
But these two conditions are very different!
And when you label a condition incorrectly it can cause no end of problems when trying to diagnose and treat it. So it's extremely important to make the distinction between Chronic Fatigue Syndrome /M.E. /Post Viral Fatigue Syndrome and depression - because they are completely different illnesses.
Depression can be a **symptom** of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, but there are many Chronic Fatigue Syndrome sufferers out there who do **not** suffer from depression at all.
I, for example, used to suffer from depression when I was first diagnosed with Post Viral Fatigue Syndrome (CFS/M.E.), but now I (thankfully) don't have depression anymore.
--------SIDE NOTE--------
My recovery from depression (whilst I had PVFS) was down to having psychotherapy. And I can safely say that it's THE BEST thing I've ever done.
If you're depressed, then I urgently recommend that you try a talking therapy of some sort.
I'd personally describe the whole process of going through psychotherapy as "reading a fascinating book" - where the topic is on 'yourself'.
To find out what it's like to go through psychotherapy /counselling, visit:
http://www.sleepydust.net/psychotherapy
If you're housebound, or just want to conserve your energy and don't want to travel to see a therapist, then why not try online counselling?
There are services out there that can give you counselling sessions via telephone, via email, or via 'Instant Messaging' (real-time chat sessions on your computer, where you type instead of talk).
--------SIDE NOTE--------
There are other differences between Chronic Fatigue Syndrome /Fibromyalgia and depression...
Research has shown that Chronic Fatigue Syndrome sufferers have an abnormality in their 'deep sleep' brainwave patterns. But, depression sufferers do not have this abnormality!
And in a recent study by scientists at the University of Alberta, it was found that there were significant differences in skin temperature and electrical activity in the skin, which sets Chronic Fatigue Syndrome sufferers apart from depression sufferers (Pazderka-Robinson, H. Int. Jrnl. Of Psychophysiology Aug 2004).
What's more, depression sufferers tend to feel tired **all** the time, whereas Chronic Fatigue Syndrome sufferers' exhaustion **increases** notably after mental or physical exertion.
There are also symptoms of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome that are not shared by depression sufferers. Nasty flu-like symptoms, headaches, painful muscles and joints, Restless Legs Syndrome, and an increase in colds and viruses, are all just a few symptoms that can play a part in Chronic Fatigue Syndrome.
There you go - just a few of the differences between Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and depression! So the next time someone mistakes your Chronic Fatigue Syndrome/ M.E. /Post Viral Fatigue Syndrome /Fibromyalgia for depression - you can set them right!

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome is probably one of the most misunderstood diseases in existence today. Many doctors continue to doubt that CFS is even a real disease. Some doctors think CFS is no more than a psychological disorder, or an extended symptom of another disease. CFS is an insidious disease with no absolute connection or root cause being yet discovered. On top of that, there exist no constant biological determinants to open the way to objective measurements like brain scans or blood tests for conducting an absolute diagnosis of CFS. So clearly and frustratingly for those who suffer from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, have great barriers stacked against them from the very beginning.
Surveys indicate that Chronic Fatigue Syndrome impacts more than four in every 1,000 Americans. According to a U.S. study, women suffered the highest rates of CFS. Individuals ages between 40 to 50, suffered CFS more often than any other age group. CFS affects both sexes of all ages, and across all ethnic and racial groups.
What are some of the most common symptoms of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome?
The most identified and common symptoms of CFS are the following:
--A severe exhaustion lasting over six months and which doesn’t get better even after sleep.
--Periods of forgetfulness, memory loss, confusion, or difficulty concentrating
--Tender lymph nodes in the neck or armpits.
--Joint pain without redness or swelling.
--Unrefreshing sleep, or unable to fall asleep
--Fatigue lasting more than 24 hours after exercise.
--Fatigue that significantly disables a person’s ability to behave and function regularly at work, at home, and in social events.
--When minimal exercise intensifies other CFS symptoms.
--Sensitivity to sunlight.
What Can I Do Right Now to Better Cope with CFS?
Here are a few steps you can begin implementing in your life for coping with CFS:
Tip #1: If you suspect but are not 100% certain that you have CFS, locate a clinic that treats CFS and request a diagnostic test to determine if you have CFS.
Tip 2: Eat a well-balanced diet consisting of fresh fruits, vegetables, protein, and whole grains. Try to eliminate as much as you can sugar and animal fat in your meals.
Tip #3: Exercise regularly everyday but do not over do it. Stay within your limits. How? If you cannot tolerate a whole hour of walking, jogging, or cycling without adverse consequences such as sleeping more than your usual, do less.
Tip #4: If you find yourself unable to sleep soundly, consider taking a safe natural remedy that treats insomnia.
Tip #5: If you feel depressed, discouraged, and even defeated because of chronic fatigue syndrome, consider taking a safe natural remedy that treats depression.
Tip #6: CFS patients suffer from a weak immune system. That is why they catch a cold or flu so easily. Supplement your diet with something that strengths your immune system.
Tip #7: Whenever you have time, educate yourself about CFS online and offline. Type in “chronic fatigue syndrome” in the search engine window and browse. The more you know about CFS, the better you’ll cope with this disease.
I personally have done battle with this enduring and merciless "beast." I can honestly confess that Chronic Fatigue Syndrome is an affliction not easily treated. I have learned a great deal through trials and errors what works and what doesn’t. Often I have wasted my hard-earned money on products that did nothing for me.
George Alarcon reveals at http://www.chronic-fatigue-aid.com his personal Chronic Fatigue story, how he fought and learned how to boost his energy level back to normal. He freely offers the suffering CFS patient a remarkably easy two-step formula for successfully fighting CFS. Under “More Help” at his site you’ll learn how to treat insomnia, depression, and a weak immune system

It is only in recent years that the medical profession has come to commonly recognize the condition of chronic fatigue syndrome but people who are afflicted by the condition have been only too aware of the debilitating effects for years.
There are still many doctors who question the validity of chronic fatigue syndrome and, among doctors who do believe the condition exists, there is still fierce debate over whether its origins are of a physical or psychological nature. This lack of unity in medical circles leads to great confusion among the public. There are still a lot of people who believe that sufferers of this condition are nothing more than malingerers. For the sufferers of this disease, this creates added stress and confusion.
The sufferers of this condition experience continuous physical tiredness. In fact, one of the first symptoms is an overwhelming, incapacitating tiredness but this is only one aspect of the disease. This may be accompanied by aching muscles. This often affects the lifestyle of the sufferer so much that they are unable to work or to take part in social activities. For some, they become totally incapacitated.
It is quite common for a normally healthy person who generally leads an active life, to one day wake up with what they believe is a case of influenza characterized by a sore throat, swollen glands, headache and fever. He or she is too tired to even get out of bed. Obviously, the first thoughts are that they have the flu but, when weeks pass without the symptoms going away, it is a sign of chronic fatigue syndrome.
A lot of people who suffer from chronic fatigue syndrome also experience severe mental tiredness which may be related to emotional turmoil that arises either from the condition itself or from the frustration sufferers can feel because of the physical exhaustion.
One of the complications that accompany this disease is that of serious cognitive problems. Processing and retention of information can become very difficult, creating even more emotional problems for the sufferer. Often, the sufferer finds it difficult to engage in a conversation as they struggle to focus on the words or to process those words. This problem also extends to written word as the sufferer may have to read the same sentence several times in order to process its meaning.
Memory loss, particularly short-term memory loss is common among sufferers of this illness. Many describe not being able to remember people’s names or the names for common things. They may also find it difficult to contribute to a conversation as they often forget words or what they are actually saying.
In the past, many people with chronic fatigue syndrome were diagnosed as having myalgic encephalomyelitis. Encephalomyelitis is an inflammation of the brain and spinal cord and that is not a characteristic of chronic fatigue syndrome so the diagnosis was incorrect. Sometimes, chronic fatigue syndrome is referred to as postviral fatigue syndrome as it often follows viral infections.
The real cause of chronic fatigue syndrome is unknown. What is known is that it generally follows a viral infection or, more often, a series of infections.
It is important for the sufferer to follow a healthy diet in order for the recovery from this condition. It is also important to look after the health of the mind as well as the body. Time and rest are the only real treatments for chronic fatigue syndrome.

We often associate chronic pain with the back, but chronic pain can also be a daily reality for people dealing with diabetes, glaucoma, arthritis, Fibromyalgia, cancer and many other disease processes. For many, the primary choices for dealing with chronic pain appear to be either narcotic drugs or sheer will power. For others, changes in lifestyle including an improved diet, and appropriate nutritional supplementation, have brought not only the benefit of reduced pain but also improvements in quality of life.

Chronic pain is often associated with tissue damage and inflammation. Unfortunately this is sometimes easier said than diagnosed. Tissue damage can result from a disease process, repetitive stress, or cellular degradation brought on by an absence of quality nutrition and poor lifestyle. Because these effects can be more subtle than the results of an automobile accident it isn’t hard to see why some people dealing with chronic pain may go their entire life without ever knowing the exact source of their discomfort.

In this is understanding of a paradigm that has brought effective pain relief for many. Everything in the body is either made out of cells or made by cells. All cells are capable of regenerating over time. By focusing on what these cells need for proper structure and function, healthier tissues result from healthier cells leading to reduced inflammation, pressure from swollen tissues and a decrease or complete absence of pain.

What do cells need for healthy production? We have known that cells require protein, fats and water to for basic structure. Unfortunately the quality of these components is often poor in our modern diets. This is usually a good starting point for any person wishing to improve their diet. Most people have too much protein in their diets, the quality of the fat consumed is very poor and the water they drink is typically insufficient as well as poor in quality.

Would you buy a car if the dealer told you it was made from the lowest quality parts? Remember that you absolutely are what you eat. Our diets often reflect the diets of our parents, which reflect the diets of their parents. Unfortunately our lifestyles are completely different from a common lifestyle of two generations ago. Very few people today need to eat a massive meal before heading off to work. This is because almost none of us go from a meal to working an entire day at hard labor as many of our recent ancestors did. In addition to the quality of the foods you’re eating, be aware of portion sizes. When you create a burden for your body from a diet of too much food, fewer resources can be spent on other immune system and repair functions elsewhere in the body.

Cells also require carbohydrates for energy as well as vitamins, minerals, and a variety of other phytochemicals including a newly discovered class of carbohydrates, which are used not for energy, but rather as the basis for cellular communication. These are known as glyconutrients. If you’re missing any of these components, or if you are not providing them to your body from high-quality sources, the quality of your cells will reflect that. Improve the sources and you can improve the cells.

The body has an amazing capacity to restore, protect and defend itself from the effects of injury and disease. These processes occur at the cellular level and they require appropriate and sufficient nutritional support. Improvements in diet involve not only the intake of better foods but also the limitation, or elimination, of poor foods. In addition to this, quality nutritional supplementation can help ensure that every cell has the nutrients it needs without the increase of calories we would experience if we simply tried to eat more food in an effort to ingest more nutrients. These improvements are part of a process and the results are not always immediate, but if you begin to take the right steps today you have the same potential as anyone else for better days to come.

Everyone will experience pain at some point in their lives.  Pain is a necessary form of protection against injuries, diseases, or conditions that would otherwise impair or even kill us.  Pain alerts us that something is wrong.   Pain can be either ‘acute’ or ‘chronic’ – the distinguishing characteristic between the two is their duration.

Acute pain usually occurs after a specific injury.  It appears quickly and is usually very intense – one example is the pain of a broken bone.  It subsides fairly quickly, particularly after treatment.  Chronic pain, on the other hand, seems to build up over time, and often cannot be connected to a particular injury or condition.  What chronic pain lasts in intensity, it makes up for in duration – sometimes persisting for decades.  Living with constant pain can be unbearable, and many forms of treatment attempt to offer sufferers some sort of chronic pain relief.

One of the most commonly prescribed therapy for chronic pain is medication, both prescription and over-the-counter.  While often effective in alleviating pain, these are eschewed by some because of their adverse side effects, which include nausea, dizziness, and fatigue.  Others are in search of a more natural form of chronic pain relief.

Exercise, stretching and physical therapy reduce chronic joint pain and muscle soreness and spasms by increasing strength, tone, and flexibility.   Exercise increases blood flow, eases joint stiffness, aids in weight loss, and counteracts the stress, anxiety, and depression that often comes from living with chronic pain.

Chiropractic, acupuncture and massage offer three alternative methods of chronic pain relief.  Though their methods differ, all of these have helped sufferers manage chronic pain.

In the past few years, researchers have begun to turn their focus on the real source of pain – the brain.  Although an injury or wound may lie elsewhere on the body, signals of pain are intercepted, processed, and quite literally ‘felt’ by the brain.  Research findings indicate that a multidisciplinary approach to treating chronic pain – one that incorporates psychological as well as physical therapy – provides the most chronic pain relief.  Yoga, meditation, and even laughing clinics have proved effective treatments.

Suffer From Chronic Pain

Each year tens of millions of Americans suffer from persistent pain known as chronic pain. Individuals with chronic pain are less able to function in daily life than those who do not suffer from chronic pain.

Chronic pain patients suffer from poor sleep quality and depressed mood rather than pain intensity, duration, or anxiety. Clinical Implications Chronic pain patients suffer from poorer quality of sleep than do healthy control subjects. Many people suffer chronic pain in the absence of any past injury or evidence of illness. Although more than one in five Americans live with chronic pain, women are more likely to suffer from chronic pain conditions than men. If you or a family member suffer from chronic pain, you know that the search for relief is an ongoing process. But some people suffer chronic pain in absence of any past injury or evidence of body damage. At least 25 percent of Americans suffer from back pain. One fourth of these individuals, back pain is chronic and unremitting.

Experience

If you're grappling with chronic pain, one of the earliest and most wrenching emotions you experience is a deep sense of loss. In fact, a number of people with SCI experience chronic pain in areas that otherwise have no sensation. Lascelles' experience, owners are usually more concerned about pain from surgery than pain associated with chronic conditions. The path to chronicity of pain is characterised by failed attempts to adjust and cope with an uncontrollable, frightening, and adverse experience.

It is now appreciated that the phenomenon of wind-up is crucial to understanding the problem of chronic pain. Chronic pain in children is an important problem and more action is urgently required to overcome the embarrassing lack of data on childhood pain. Some believe that many factors work together to produce chronic pain, rather than a single disease or medical problem. The longer pain goes on the more susceptible it is to other influences and developing into a  problem.

Source From Injury

Some people develop chronic pain out of the blue, with no injury or illness to trigger pain signals. Once chronic pain that has been caused by an injury or surgery is managed, patient recovery may be faster. an injury, and chronic pain with no identifiable pain generator (e.g. The injury transformed her into one of millions of Americans tormented by chronic pain. Managing stress and managing chronic pain go hand in hand. Stress Ask most chronic pain patients what their most significant source of stress is, and they will usually tell you that it is pain. Physical, psychological, and emotional stress may worsen chronic pain. Predictors of posttraumatic stress disorder symptom severity level in chronic low back pain patients.

Prevalence

Statistical analysis The prevalence of recent pain, chronic pain, and severely disabling chronic pain were summarised as percentages of respondents with 95% confidence intervals. Croft et al [11] found the prevalence of chronic pain to be slightly lower in postal survey non-responders. A small number of previous studies have sought to collect data on the prevalence of chronic pain from non-responders. The prevalence of severely disabling chronic pain in this sample was 3.0%.

Depression

This pattern has to be changed if depression, stress, and chronic pain itself are to be conquered. This is because the consequences of chronic pain and the symptoms of depression look very similar. Depression Persons with a chronic pain problem often show decreases in meaningful and enjoyable activities. Depression is often associated with chronic pain and may need to be treated as a separate, but related, condition. Living with chronic pain can lead to loss of appetite, depression, and exhaustion. The consequences of unrelieved chronic pain in this population, similar to others, include depression, decreased socialization and sleep disturbance. Influence of chronic pain on mood and psychosocial function, utilizing age-specific scales (e.g., geriatric depression scale). Nelson and Diane...and depression in patients with chronic pain was investigated. Counselling may also be of some help in addressing the depression which so often accompanies chronic pain or illness. Levels of anxiety, depression and self-rated health were described for respondents with severely disabling chronic pain and contrasted with respondents reporting no pain. Psychological therapy for anxiety and depression is helpful in managing the emotional consequences of chronic pain. This is not the case and if somebody has chronic pain and depression, 'you have to treat both', he says. Our research provides further evidence that chronic pain and depression are quite independent", Dr Clauw said. There are many factors that affect the development of chronic pain such as age, level of disability, depression, or the presence of nerve damage. Schatzberg suspects that the presence of chronic pain should be added to this list as a symptom for assessing depression.

Try not to rely on sedative or hypnotic medications to treat the fear many chronic patients show of activity or fear of increased pain. Interventional techniques refer to procedures that are performed in an attempt to diagnose and treat chronic pain.

Targeted government and private funding for research in pediatric chronic pain should be augmented. Current research should soon yield ways of formulating and delivering NMDA receptor-blockers that will ease most chronic pain syndromes without causing such adverse effects. The research evidence is strongest for these patients regarding the risk factors for chronic pain. But for chronic pain, research has shown that they tend to make pain worse, causing the patient to need larger and larger doses. Of the little research done on chronic pain, researchers had previously focused on damaged nerve fibers as pain conduits.

System

With chronic pain, the pain signals keep firing up the nervous system for months, even years, either continually or as flare-ups. Recent animal studies have shown that remodeling within the central nervous system causes the physical pathogenesis of chronic pain. In chronic pain the nervous system may be sending a pain signal even though there is no ongoing tissue damage. Much of the identifiable findings in chronic pain patients will be referable to the peripheral nervous system.

article:

Erectile Dysfunction is defined as the consistent inability to attain and maintain an erection sufficient for sexual intercourse. ED affects an estimated 189 million men worldwide. Experts believe that 80 percent to 90 percent of ED cases are related to a physical or medical condition, such as diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and prostate cancer treatment, while 10 percent to 20 percent are due to psychological causes. In many cases, however, both psychological and physical factors contribute to the condition.
Lilly ICOS LLC, a joint venture between ICOS Corporation and Eli Lilly and Company, developed Cialis for the treatment of erectile dysfunction. ICOS Corporation, a biotechnology company headquartered in Bothell, Washington, is dedicated to bringing innovative therapeutics to patients. ICOS is working to develop treatments for serious unmet medical conditions such as benign prostatic hyperplasia, pulmonary arterial hypertension, cancer and inflammatory diseases.
When an erection goes limp, you have PDE5 to thank . Specialized penis tissue produces a substance called cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP) in response to sexual stimulation. The more cGMP available, the more durable the erection. Cialis inhibits the PDE5 enzyme, preserving cGMP levels, therefore aiding erection viability and durability. Cialis (tadalafil), an oral treatment for erectile dysfunction, is a selective inhibitor of cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP)-specific phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5). Tadalafil has the empirical formula C 22 H 19 N 3 O 4 representing a molecular weight of 389.41.
We all know that Cialis isn't the first oral treatment medicine for erectile dysfunction. It came after Viagra and Levitra. However both Viagra and Levitra works for up to 5-6 hours, while Cialis gives you 36 hours to enjoy sex. All three drugs should take about 30-40 minutes to take action. No longer does an erection or sexual activity have to be rushed. If you Expect to go to a Bar and meet a girl, you probably wouldn't want to take Viagra or Levitra and get a really hard erection after 40 minutes, because you don't know how things would go, Instead you can take Cialis before you go out, and you should be on the safe side of the erection, even if you decide to spend the night.
To conclude, Viagra and Levitra would probably be better to one certain sexual encounter with your wife, while Cialis is a better choice for a whole weekend of sex, or for a night at some pick-up bars, seeking random sex partners, without the certainty of Sex. Cigarette Smoking is Dangerous to Your Sexual health

Word Count:

Summary:
Lung cancer, emphysema, and heart failure are the distinguished effects of smoking. But smoking also brings negative effects on male and female sexual health.

Keywords:
sexual health, weight-loss

Article Body:
According to a 2006 survey by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, at least 22% of high school students in American smoke cigarettes everyday.   In fact, even if the study indicated that smoking had already declined over the last four years, the statistics still show that one in five Americans still smoke cigarettes.  A 2005 study revealed that more than 20% of adults in the United States are smokers.  While smoking rates among high school students have been on a decline since 1997, the rate of teenagers who smoke is equal to, and in some cases, higher than that of adults. The younger the individuals start smoking, the more likely that they will continue smoke as an adult.  Given these figures, it is not surprising that smoking is the leading cause of premature deaths in the United States.

The question is still begging to be asked:  Why do teens smoke?  Is it because of the influence of media or because they get the habit from adults who smoke?  Studies show that many teenagers smoke because they were simply curious about how it would taste or feel like.  Others said that they thought that smoking was a good method to achieve weight-loss.  Even if the warnings plastered on the cigarette box clearly says that, “Smoking is dangerous to your health,” this has not stopped teens from experimenting or taking up the habit of cigarette use.

Medical evidence suggest that cigarette smoking causes an increase in the body's metabolic rate and may suppress appetite.  But it is important to note that smoking tends to dull the taste buds, which, after all, may be the reason for the “loss of appetite.”   This argument is somehow supported by cases of people who gained weight after they stopped smoking.  Since their taste buds had already regained their functionality, the former smokers enjoyed their meals more and eventually gained some weigh.

Non-smokers may have found a way to kick the habit but for thousands if not millions of smokers around the world --- doing away with the stick is still an on-going struggle.  The addiction of smokers to the deadly chemical called nicotine makes it hard for them to stop smoking. Nicotine dependence occurs when the chemicals and other cigarette substances reach the brain and activates the pleasure cells, producing mood-altering effects that give smokers short-term pleasure.

The short-term pleasure of smoking somehow negates the clear message that long-term use of cigarettes could possibly lead to lung cancer, emphysema, and heart failure. Studies also show that smoking has adverse effects on male and female sexual health.  A number of studies show that smoking is related to the difficulty getting and maintaining an erection. Many toxins present in cigarettes especially carbon monoxide, can damage the circulatory system, which hinders the flow of blood in the penis which is necessary for erection. In addition, smoking is one of the major causes of erectile dysfunction. A study published in the Journal of Urology in 2000 found out that 68% of men with high blood pressure aged 40-79 experienced erectile dysfunction.  At least 45% of these cases were considered severe sexual ailments. High blood pressure in men may lead to low testosterone levels, which is a male hormone that plays a crucial role in the sexual arousal. Low testosterone levels lead to decreased arousal and sexual performance. Toxins found in cigarettes may also harm the testes. Smoking may affect the semen and the sperm, reducing their mobility and quality. Men who smoke tend to have lower sperm counts and malformed sperms than their non-smoking counterparts.

Many substance founds in cigarettes may harm the ovaries, studies show that women who smoke or have smoked in the past may encounter difficulties getting pregnant with the chances of conceiving being  decreased by up to 40% for each menstrual cycle. The longer a woman smokes, the more difficult it would be for her to get pregnant. The effects of smoking on sexual health have been taken for granted since the focus of previous studies have been on the ill effects of smoking on the cardiovascular system. Understanding the adverse effects of smoking on one's sexual health may become a motivation for many to quit smoking. Joining a program that helps people quit smoking; and consulting a doctor about medications that reduce the craving to smoke may also help. Others succeed by using alternative methods like hypnosis. Although it may be a very hard habit to break, quitting smoking is one of the best things people can do to improve their sex lives and their over-all health.
