La Cefalea en Racimo es en la cual se obtiene dolor intenso en una parte de la cabeza y además afecta al ojo y a la nariz.

La Cefalea Tensional en la cual se siente un dolor como presión a ambos lados de la cabeza, generalmente se siente el dolor en la parte frontal de la cabeza o en la base de la nuca y a veces se extiende hasta el hombro.

En la migraña el dolor de cabeza es pulsátil y palpitante y algunas veces no se siente dolor. El dolor de cabeza que produce la migraña, por lo general se produce al un solo lado de la cabeza. Algunos de los síntomas que vienen con la migraña son vomito, nauseas, sensibilidad a la luz y al ruido, perdida de apetito etc. No todos los síntomas se presentan en las personas, con uno o dos basta para saber que la persona sufre de migraña. Luego de esto ud mismo podrá deducir si el dolor que tiene es una cefalea o una migraña y que clase de alimento o actividad le produce el dolor de cabeza.

Es muy importante que hagan una tabla con las descripciones anteriores para que puedan saber cual es el motivo del dolor y con respecto a eso puedan tomar decisiones. Of all the forms of stress in today's world, computer stress is the one that is on the rise the fastest.  Computers are wonderful machines, but they can also stress out workers by their sometimes confusing demands, their constant presence and their simple inability to work properly.  Thus, computer stress must be understood and it must find an outlet or computer users will find themselves even more stressed out than they already are.
The first thing to remember about computers is that they are machines.  They do not have feelings, they do not respond to emotional appeals, they only do what they are told to do; nothing more and nothing less.  Thus, you need to remember that just about anything that your computer does is probably something you told it to do.  Sure, you may not have wanted to tell it to do something, but you told the computer to do it and that's all it knows.  You can save yourself a lot of computer stress by keeping this in mind.
The next thing you need to know in order to avoid computer stress is that computers are machines and, therefore, they will break down.  That means that you need to keep backup copies of everything important.  If you absolutely need a file, keep a copy on a floppy disk or on a CD.  Hard drives are well known to just give out after a while (the average lifetime is about 4-5 years) and therefore you need to keep backups of everything you want to keep.  If it's important enough that you want a copy, it's important enough to keep a backup copy.  The sooner you remember to keep your computer's failing in mind, the more stress free you will be.
Third, you need to protect your computer.  On the most basic level, that means a surge protector.  A power surge can quickly fry the delicate insides of a computer and suddenly realizing that you need a new computer is just about the worst computer stress of all.
As well, you need to protect your computer from outside interference.  If your computer is hooked up to the Internet, protect it with a network firewall and anti-virus software.  There are plenty of malicious hackers out there and they tend to enjoy watching people panic about their computers suddenly dying.  These hackers write viruses and worms that can infect your machine and delete important files or send out malicious emails all on their own.  You do not want to have your computer taken over like this.  Save yourself from this sort of computer stress by keeping your system and your files secure from outside attackers.
Another way to protect your computer is to shut it down properly.  Many people simply hit the power button without shutting down the machine first.  This is a serious danger, as it can damage the delicate circuits of the computer.  Run your computer through its shutdown system and wait until it either turns itself off, or it tells you that it is time to turn it off.  This may not seem like a big deal to some, but it can damage your computer in the long run.
Computer stress can also simply arise from sitting in front of the silly thing so long that you realize you do not know what you are looking at any more.  You know you need to get work done on the silly machine, but you haven't gotten anything done and the deadline is looming and you need more time, but there isn't any and… just slow down.  If you are not getting anything done, they save yourself some computer stress by walking away.  If you are at work, lock your screen and wander the hallways for a bit.  If you are at home, get up and go make yourself a sandwich or something.  Just walk away and you will save yourself a lot of stress over something that is really not a big deal.
One of the problems with living in the computer age is, simply, the computer.  However, it is only a machine and you can learn to control it without it controlling you.  Your computer is a tool no different than a hammer or a crowbar.  So save yourself from computer stress and you won't feel compelled to use a hammer or a crowbar on the computer that is supposed to make your life easier.

Being one of the panchamahabhoota, agni (fire) has the characteristic that it cannot exist without a base. In the body it exists in pitta dosha.
Agni is responsible for the following functions:
Digestion - indigestion (Pakti- Apakti)
Vision- absence of vision (Darshanam- Adarshanam)
Degree of heat (Matra- Amatratvamushmanala)
Normal -abnormal complexion (Prakrit - Vikarit varnam)
Prowess- fear (Shaurya- Bhaya)

For the metabolic processes in the body, there are three main groups of biological factors, probably exhibiting enzymatic functions (agnis).
Jatharagni or Koshthagni:
Present in the pachak pitta. It is responsible for the digestion and the absorption of nutritious substances during this process.
The process of digestion (ahar pachan) is divided in three stages, which collectively is called awastha paka and can be divided in the following.
Amavstha (Madhuravastha) Paka - in stomach
Pachymanavastha (Amlavstha) Paka - in 'grahani' (Duodenum)

Madhur rasa & Lavan rasa have Madhura Vipaka, Amla rasa have amla vipaka and Katu, Tikta & Kashaya rasa have Katu vipaka.
Panchabhutagnis :
In ayurveda it is believed that everything is made up of five elements and so is the body. These five elements are the panchmahabhoota and are responsible for constituting every living being in the world. Agni transforms the Asharir Mahabhoota (external mahabhoot) to Sharir Mahabhoota. Example - When we drink water Jala Mahabhoota (water) dominates and later the water is transformed by Jala Mahabhoota agni to the Sharir Jala Containing five types of biological factors, it is responsible for the processing of the five basic elements into a composition useful to the body.
Dhatvagnis : The third group contains seven types, each for the assimilation of the seven tissues This assimilation takes place successively. From the absorbed nutritious substance, plasma (rasa) is produced first; from plasma, blood (rakta) is formed, then muscular tissue (mamsa), adipose tissue (meda), bony tissue (asthi), bone marrow (majjan) and the reproductive cells (shukra).
Besides performing all the metabolic functions agni takes care of digestion (ahar pachan) and in the absence of ahar it acts on the ama pachan i.e. properly metabolize the improper metabolites. When ahar and ama are absence Agni does the function of dhatu i.e. rasa, rakta etc. Digestion of dhatu is a fatal condition in which dhatus are broken down to get energy. The reduction or deficiency of the quantum of dhatu in the human body leads to the disease called 'Kshaya roga'.
In ayurveda it is believed that all the pathology occurs due to the impairment in Agni (Kaya). Hence the correction of Kaya i.e. Agni is called the treatment or 'Kaya Chikitsa' in ayurveda
Agnis are also classified into four categories according to how they manifest in the human being:
Tikshnagni -sharp,
Mandagni - mild,
Vishamagni - irregular, and
Samagni - regular or Balanced.

For centuries, alcoholic beverages have been linked to a temporary decrease in male sexual inhibitions. Nobody's really been sure of why this was the case, other than the alcohol having an effect on the parts and biochemicals in the brain that regulate things like sexual health. Side effects like increased arousal and decreased inhibitions were accepted as part and parcel of exposure to enough amounts of alcohol, though only recently has there been any research conducted into finding the physiological reasons behind these effects.

Using an animal model to study the effects of alcohol, research teams in Pennsylvania State University attempted to find the exact physiological effects of chronic alcohol exposure to a person's physical, mental, and sexual health. The team noted that there was a distinct lack of studies involving animal models to look at the effects of chronic exposure to alcohol. Kyung-An Han, the leader of the team, also noted that their research differed because they administered regular doses of ethanol – the main intoxicating component of alcohol – to the animals. This is in contrast to the short-term dosing method used by previous attempts at this study. Han believes their approach would produce more reliable and realistic results.

The first result they observed that was related to sexual health was the drop in courtship inhibitions among the intoxicated test subjects, which were fruit flies. Fruit fly males, which normally only initiated courtship with females, suddenly exhibited courtship behavior with other males. Han believes that dopamine was somehow involved, because this behavior was not observed when they altered the temperature to prevent dopamine from being transmitted to the brain. It was also noted that continued exposure to ethanol increased the likelihood that the male fruit flies would initiate courtship behavior with other males.

Chronic tolerance of the effects of the ethanol was also observed in the flies, which meant that the more exposed they were, the larger the doses required to “intoxicate” them. This has also been noted in other animals, though there have been very few scientific studies dedicated to exploring the long-term possibilities and effects of such exposure. The only concrete medical knowledge into the matter concerns the effects of long-term alcohol use in various human organs and systems, but no real data on the effects it might have on sexual health and behavior.

It was also noted that inter-male courtship behavior among the fruit flies seemed to be more likely with age. The research team found that the older the fruit fly, the more susceptible it was to the effects of ethanol exposure. In theory, this holds true for most other animals. Han's team observed that the older the fly was and the lower the tolerance for ethanol, the more likely it was to exhibit inter-male courtship behavior.

Han's team hopes that their study would prove to form an effective, reliable baseline for further research into the cellular and molecular interactions with alcohol in animals. Han hoped that the study would help provide evidence that sexual health and behavior was not only influenced by developmental factors, but by post-developmental influences as well.

I never intended to get fat! I am not exactly sure how it happened, but there I was a 6’2” thirty-four year old pushing close to 270 pounds. My cholesterol was high, my triclecrides were high, and my blood pressure was high. I was on a direct course for developing diabetes, increased risk of heart disease, increased risk of cancer, and a ton of other diseases related to obesity.
It gets worse. I am a doctor, a sports chiropractor to be exact and my office is located inside a health club. Unfortunately, like many other doctors and other health professional out there, I was not practicing what I was preaching.   
Living in sunny Arizona, land of the endless summer, sooner or later you have to go to the lake, the water park, or you are invited to a cookout and pool party. That is when all my excuses caught up to me. Despite knowing the health risks associated with being overweight, it was the feeling of low self-esteem and embarrassment that finally drove me to action.
So there I was, a doctor, ready to get the weight off. I hate to admit it; I tried some of those quick fix gimmick supplements. I tried a bunch of the fad diets. I bought a bunch of books from all the “weight loss experts”. Sure I would lose a little weight, but I could never stick with the diet for any length of time. When I went off the diet I would gain the weight right back. Then tried working my butt off in the gym, running almost every day. That got real boring, and I found that running everyday is not the best thing to do when you weigh close to 270 pounds.
There I was again, still no direction, no focus, no drive, nothing to guide me. Frustrated about not getting any results and what to do, I thought I was just going to have to accept that I was overweight and deal with it. I gave it a real effort and it did not work.  
During all of this, the chiropractor that I bought my office from mentioned that he was beginning a weight loss program at his office, which was based on his experience with triathlon training.  That got my attention. I really wanted to give the program a try, but I lived too far from his office to come in on a regular basis. So I began researching the sport on the Internet.
The more I read about triathlons and triathlon training, the more sense it made to me as a way to help me lose weight. If you are going to do an event that involves swimming, cycling, and running you obviously are going to have to train that way.  The idea about jumping into the pool for an exercise swim was not something I was looking forward to, and the last thing I wanted to do was to put on a swimsuit and workout. Then I remembered how painful my knees were from running around, and swimming would be easier on my joints.
I also began reading about using heart rate monitors and the affects of exercising at different heart rates. Many of the authors of the books on heart zone training were triathletes themselves, and they gave numerous examples on how using heart zone training you can track your progress and maximize your exercise program.  
The more I searched the triathlon Internet sites, the more I became interested in the sport. The people who competed in triathlons looked really fit, it was inspiring. That is when I decided to take my commitment to losing weight to the next level. Weighing close to 270 pounds, I signed up for my first triathlon. Five months away, I was going to do a sprint race, which was a 500m swim, a 15-mile bike, then and a 3-mile run. This was a much shorter distance than many triathlon races, however at the time I could not do even one of the events let alone all of them back-to-back.
Using a combination of what I learned about heart zone training and from the triathlon Internet sites, I started my program. I my alternated exercise sessions between swimming, cycling, and running. I also did about an hour of weight training a week. This really added a variety to the exercise program, and it never got boring. One day I would just bike, then next maybe run 10 minutes, do a weight session, then bike for 25 minutes. Then the next day I would just swim. The next day I would swim then follow it up with a run. My knees were holding up very well with little, if any pain. At the same time I started eating better, no real diet, just common sense stuff, avoiding the sugars and white breads.
The use of the heart rate monitor became a very useful tool. It kept me from working too hard or too easy. The monitor I was using, the Polar 610, also came with software. I was able to download all of my exercise sessions into a computer. Then I was able to objectively document my exercise sessions. The software was able to track my calories burned during exercise, my average heart rate, hours spent exercising per week, and much more. After every exercise session actually looked forward to downloading my session to see how I did.
It also allowed me to exercise at different heart rates. One day I would run at 70% of my maximum heart rate for 10 minutes, then bike at 80% of my maximum heart rate for 10 minutes, then go back to running at 70% for another 10 minutes. The next day I would just bike for 40 min. But I would again exercise at different heart rates, 10 min at 70%, and 5 minutes at 80%, and 10 minutes at 75 %, and 5 minutes at 80%, and then 10 minutes at 70%. This was a fun way to exercise and I actually began to look forward to exercising, the whole process was less boring.
I kept up with this type of training for five months. On the day of my first triathlon, I was forty pounds lighter.
Some how, some way, I did it. I finished my first triathlon, and as crazy as it sounds I really enjoyed myself. I was feeling good about my accomplishment, but I still had some serious weight to lose. So I found another triathlon race six months later, signed up for it and continued training. The weight just kept coming off and coming off.
At the time of my second race, eleven months after learning about triathlons, I had lost sixty pounds.
It seemed like every week one of my patients, whom I had not seen for months, would come in for a treatment. The reactions were always the same, doc what the heck happened to you, you look like a totally different person!
I felt like a different person too, I was running without knee pain, I was happier at work, my relationship with my family was better, I was no longer embarrassed to go to a pool party or the water park, in fact I looked forward to them.
My patients and the members of the health club where my office was located were constantly asking me about my weight loss. I remember one of the gym members walking up to my desk and looking at my before and after pictures. He pointed to my fat picture and said, “That is me” then he pointed to my fit picture and said, “That is the way I want to look”. Wow, what a great feeling, I could not believe it. 
As I am sitting here writing this article, it has been a year since my first triathlon. Just a few weeks ago, I raced in my third race and I actually managed to finish second in my age group.
As a result of getting into triathlons, not only do I have a new body, I have a new life.

It happens even to highly committed and passionate individuals who encounter problems or get involved in situations where their enthusiasm and passion are gradually being stripped away until they eventually lose the drive and will to go on. It can be a situation or a thought that can weigh you down or make you feel frustrated and angry.
Stress and anxiety are normal parts of everyday life. Both can motivate a person to be productive and to rise up to the challenge of tough situations. However, too much stress and too much anxiety can be harmful and may cause physical, emotional, and psychological problems like infection, heart diseases, and depression. Stress and anxiety at workplace can lead to burnout.

·              Wake-up Call – Some people manage through burnout situations by considering it as a trigger to re-evaluate their lifestyles and what they want to achieve. This form of stress management is one of the most positive ways to cope with burnout. It is dealing with the sense of failure by talking with somebody who may have experienced the same situation and help you realized without bias why after all the inputs you have generously given and efforts you have exerted to do well did not worked out to your advantage. This person should not be from the same company to avoid prejudice which may only complicate matters. Sometimes, this is all that is needed to relieve stress and anxiety that leads to burnout. The realization may lead you to yourself or to other people as the one to be blamed. But what is important is to be able to move on without dwelling further on blame and guilt.
Coming to terms with the situation will allow people to learn that hard work is not the only thing that matters, that major achievements need the support of other people, and most importantly, that they are not superhuman to cure all ills. They will learn to spot and communicate problems early on to avoid repeating the same mistakes. Symptoms

The headache period begins during or within sixty minutes of the visual symptoms that are consistent with migraine without aura:  Headache duration of 4 to 72 hours.
Symptoms should have at least two of the following characteristics:
1.            unilateral location
2.            pulsatile quality
3.            moderate or severe pain intensity
4.            aggravation by or causing avoidance of routine physical activity such as walking or climbing stairs
And at least one of these characteristics:
1.            nausea and/or vomiting
2.            photophobia (heightened sensitivity to light) and phonophobia (heightened sensitivity to sound)
The main difference between retinal migraine and migraine with aura (neurological phenomenon) is that the former has monocular visual symptoms as well as total, but temporary, monocular blindness.
Since there are no known causes of migraine disease, diagnosis is done by tracing the personal and family medical history of the patient to rule out other causes of the symptoms.  
Treatment and Remedies
There are several over-the-counter and prescription medicines that can provide migraine remedies or aid in relieving symptoms of attacks when they happen. For most people, treatments to relieve stress prove to be equally helpful as migraine remedies.
Retinal migraine is a diagnosis of exclusion, however, and patients will generally require a complete cardiovascular evaluation to rule-out embolic and other vascular disease as a cause of the visual loss. Patients diagnosed with this condition may be treated in the same fashion as patients with migraine.
Patients who are having infrequent episodes are given medications used for other forms of migraine to relieve other symptoms. These medications can include nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), anti-nausea medications among others. The choice of medications may depend on the age of the patient's severity of the condition. For frequent migraine attacks, the same preventive therapies used for other migraines can be explored. Since the 1960’s there have been numerous controlled clinical trials concerning the relationship between congestive heart failure and Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10). As its name implies CoQ10 is a coenzyme that is necessary for the proper functioning of other substances, one of the most important of which is ATP (adenosine triphosphate). ATP is necessary for the production of cellular energy. By proxy CoQ10 is likewise essential for this process.
Clinical trials have attempted to study the relationship between CoQ10 and many chronic diseases including, but not limited to, heart disease, cancer and AIDS. But heart disease has gained the most attention; congestive heart failure being one of the primary subjects. Because heart muscle cells require so much energy to function and CoQ10 is at the core of the cellular energy process it makes sense to suspect that congestive heart failure might be linked to CoQ10 deficiency. With that theory in mind many studies like the ones that follow have been conducted. These trials have been presented in this essay in thumbnail format.
One early Japanese trial (1972) involved 197 patients with varying levels of severity of cardiac failure. The study reported significant improvement of cardiac function supplementing with 30 mg per day of CoQ10. Another Japanese study demonstrated similar results with 38 patients also supplementing with 30 mg. In 1985 a U.S. clinical study prescribed daily supplementation with 100 mg of the coenzyme for treatment periods of three months for patients with low ejection fraction measurements. The ejection fraction is the measure of the heart’s ability to pump blood. A low ejection fraction is a classic symptom of congestive heart failure. Again, significant improvements in heart function were reported. Other clinical trials followed prescribing the same level of supplementation with similar results.
Studies in the early 1990s showed improvement for patients suffering from ischemic cardiomyopathy (a low oxygen state usually due to obstruction) with supplemental levels of 200 mg per day. Supplementing with 100 mg per day demonstrated improvement for patients suffering from idiopathic dilated cardiomyopathy, an enlarged heart syndrome of unknown cause.
One of the largest trials of the 1990s involves 641 patients randomly divided into two groups. The first group received a placebo. The other group received CoQ10 supplements. During the one-year follow-up period 118 patients in the placebo group were hospitalized for heart failure compared to 73 in the group that received the supplements.
All of the preceding trials were relatively short-term studies. The level of improvement among patients varied depending on how long they had been suffering from some aspect of congestive heart failure. Through the years it has become increasing clear that the greatest improvements were shown in patients that had suffered from their condition the least amount of time. In other words, the longer a person had been suffering from the disease before he or she received CoQ10 treatments the less improvement was demonstrated. People who had received treatments early in the development of the disease showed the most dramatic improvement often returning to normal heart function. Long-term sufferers received less relief and were less likely to return to full heart function. Whatever the reasons for this disparity in health improvement, it demonstrates the importance of receiving treatment as early as possible.
But what about long-term studies? Do they show the same marked improvement with similar treatment? In the short-term trials it was apparent that even high level supplementing with CoQ10 seemed to produce no ill effects. In order to determine if this is only true for short durations a number of long-term studies were conducted.
In 1990 observations were published concerning 126 patients with dilated cardiomyopathy. Unlike previously noted studies this one followed the patients’ progress for six years. Long-term benefits from CoQ10 supplementing were noticed with no harmful side effects. Similar observations were made in a trial involving 2,664 patients treated with CoQ10 at levels up to 150 mg per day.
A 1994 study involving 424 patients with a variety of myocardial (refers to the heart's muscle mass) diseases. Among these conditions were the following: Valvular heart disease (pertaining to dysfunction of heart valves), hypertension, diastolic dysfunction (failure of the heart to properly refill itself with blood), dilated cardiomyopathy (group of disorders where the heart muscle is weakened and enlarged and cannot pump effectively) and ischemic cardiomyopathy (low oxygen state usually due to obstruction of the arterial blood supply). Patients were treated with an average of 240 mg of CoQ10 daily during their treatment period. They were then followed-up for up to eight years with an average follow-up period of 18 months. Overall results demonstrated measurable cardiac improvements in one month with maximum improvements at about six months. With continued CoQ10 treatment the improvement in most patients was sustained. However, discontinuing the treatment usually resulted in a decline of cardiac function with eventual return to pre-treatment conditions.
As always in the medical community many more studies will need to be conducted to determine the future of CoQ10 treatment. However, the research to date seems to support CoQ10 as a viable treatment for many diseases that are caused or exacerbated by inadequate production of cellular energy.

Modern psychology has managed to connect mental health to everything, from driving down a crowded highway to sexual health. They've even managed to cover almost everything in between. However, one aspect that they have ignored and have not recognized is the possibility that one's environment and surroundings might play a larger role in mental health than previously noted. The existence of the problem known as seasonal affective disorder (SAD) implies that things like the weather can have an effect on mental health.

However, in most cases, psychological effects that might be caused by environment can often be adequately explained by other factors. For example, if depression comes during a time of year when seasonal unemployment kicks in, the prospect of losing a job is more likely to be seen as the cause of the problem. By most standards, a vast majority of mental health disorders that appear to be related to environmental factors can be explained by more...mundane things. This also contributes to the nature of the aforementioned SAD, which can only be diagnosed by eliminating all other possibilities.

Despite the situation, there are a few who are attempting to establish greater links between nature and mental health, but the research has been slow to progress. With the exception of SAD, the obvious angle to take in this endeavor would be using nature as stress relief. It is not unusual for certain sights and sounds in nature to have a calming effect on people, often quickly alleviating things such as stress and anxiety. There are a lot of things from nature that can be used to calm and relax someone, though what exactly performs best can often vary depending on the personality and tastes of the patient in question.

The main focus of the studies linking sanity to nature, however, focuses on whether or not nature can have an appreciable effect on one's mental state. This, of course, does not include high-pressure situations that a person can find himself in. For example, studies of this sort would typically exclude being stranded on a deserted place or running from predators, as those situations can easily have factors that can rule out the “nature” part of the study. The research also focuses on everyday situations where nature would have an effect, but would also allow researchers to rule out other possible causes.

Understandably, this is exceedingly difficult to pull-off. High-risk and high-stress situations in a natural environment are not suitable for this study, simply because the natural environment is merely causing the factors that affect mental illness. The most confusing part of this is, it is difficult to really ascertain what the study would actually cover. SAD, as noted, is an example of what nature can do to the human mind, but there is the possibility that the reason psychology hasn't found anything similar to it is because there are no others like it.

There is, of course, the distinct possibility that besides SAD, nature doesn't directly cause any form of insanity in people. It would be a reasonable assumption, but only because of the lack of evidence pointing to the contrary. Besides, for some reason, most researchers simply aren't interested in delving deeper into the why or how nature calms the mind and clears it of negative emotions.

The experiment brought together 16 people diagnosed with autism and 16 people who didn’t suffer from the disorder. Scientists measured the brain activity levels and responsiveness of both normal and autistic people when they were shown a sequence of images. The subjects were asked to identify certain differences between a series of images that represented objects and human faces. Normal people revealed higher levels of brain activity when they were shown the images that represented human faces and lower levels of brain activity when they were shown representations of objects. By contrast, all autistic people who participated to the experiment revealed low levels of brain activity regardless of what the images represented.

The results of the experiment can be interpreted in many different ways. For many people, the experiment might suggest that there are abnormalities in some areas of the brain that prevent autistics from processing human features. However, medical scientists explain that autistic people’s actual problem is their inability to focus properly on human features rather than their inability to understand or recognize them. Scientists suggest that poor communication between some areas of the brain renders autistic people indifferent to others and hence, makes them socially inapt.

The experiment suggests a clear connection between brain dysfunctions and autistics’ poor social skills, revealing new interesting physiological characteristics of people with autism.

Antibiotic resistance is the ability of a microorganism to withstand the effects of an antibiotic. It is a specific type of drug resistance. Antibiotic resistance occurs when bacteria change and adapt to the action or chemical effects of a drug that is designed to cure or prevent infections. Once the bacteria adapts and survives the onslaught of the drug, it is able to develop resistance and continue its harmful reproduction inside a host.
MRSA or Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus Aureus is one among a number of organisms that have been found to be resistant to commonly used antibiotics. Methicillin was an antibiotic used many years ago to treat patients with Staphylococcus Aureus infections. An individual could become a carrier of MRSA in the same way that they can become a carrier of ordinary Staphylococcus aureus.  Infection is spread through physical contact with an infection person.   If the infectious organism is on the skin, then it can also be passed around via skin-to-skin contact.  If the organism is in the nose or has infected the lungs, it may be spread via droplets spread from the mouth and nose during sneezing or contact with an infected person's saliva. Resistance of infectious organisms can be tested through the use clinical implements and chemicals. This test is usually done over a period of two to three days to determine the level of resistance of an organism to antibiotics.
Superbugs organisms are often associated with patients in hospitals but can also be found on patients not in a hospital. It is not necessary to do anything about MRSA organisms. However, if these superbugs are passed on to someone who is already ill, then a more serious infection may occur to that person. When patients with MRSA are discovered in a hospital, the hospital will usually try to prevent it from passing around to other patients. This measure is known as infection control.
The type of infection control or isolation required for any patient depends on the organism. It usually rests on where the organisms is found on an individual and the patient. Contact Isolation is the most important type of isolation required for MRSA. This requires everyone in contact with the patient to be very careful about hand washing after touching either the patient or anything that came to contact with the patient. Cleaning of surfaces are also important since dust and surfaces can become contaminated with the organism. This is usually done when the patient leaves the hospital.
However, though it seems like these superbugs are extremely powerful, if a patient is given multiple antibiotics, they can be fought off. One of the lifesaving drugs that is said to combat MRSA is vancomycin. Vancomycin has been reserved by hospitals as the drug of last resort. Experts said that this medicine may cause some serious side effects, including damage to your hearing and kidneys. Though vancomycin has its own side effects, it can at least fight those superbugs away.

What do we know about the Common Cold?

               No Cure. Antibiotics, designed to knock out bacterial infections, do nothing when it comes to treating a cold.
               None of us are safe! No matter how strong and healthy we are, an occasional cold will reduce us to whimpering, sneezing, coughing versions of our former selves.

So, what do we do? Lay back with a box of tissue, pop a couple of cold tabs and wait it out? Not necessarily! Doctors who specialize in self-care medicine say that there is a lot more that we can do to get through a cold comfortably, and possibly more quickly! Here is some of the best advice that experts have to offer on the subject.

               Vitamin C - "Vitamin C works in the body as a scavenger, picking up all sorts of trash - including virus trash," Says Keith W. Sehnert, M.D., a physician with Trinity Health Care in Minneapolis, Minnesota. "It can shorten the length of a cold from seven days to maybe two or three."
               Studies conducted at the University of Wisconsin found that cold sufferers taking 500 milligrams of vitamin C four times a day suffered from about half as many symptoms (coughing, sneezing. etc) as those not taking the vitamin.
               Best way to get it? Drink it! Orange, grapefruit, and cranberry juices are excellent sources of vitamin C.
               Zinc - Suck on zinc lozenges and cut your cold short, to an average of just 4 days! It also can help reduce symptoms such as dry, irritated throat. Unfortunately, it doesn't work for everyone, but when it works, it works!
               R and R - Take a day or two off of work, or at least slow down! Extra rest enables your body to focus it's energy on getting you well.
               Stay Warm - Keep your immune system cozy by bundling up against the cold. This way your body can use energy to fight your cold instead of protecting you from the cold.
               Eat Lightly - Eat, but steer clear of foods that put a strain on your body's metabolism. Eat fewer fatty foods, meat and milk products, and eat more fresh fruits and vegetables.
               Chicken Soup - A silly folk remedy? No! Researchers at the Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach have found that hot chicken soup, either because of its aroma or its taste, "appears to possess an additional substance for increasing the flow of nasal mucus." Researchers say that this mucus serves as a first line of defense in removing germs from your system, so eat up!
               Liquids - Drink six to eight glasses of water, juice, tea, and other mostly clear liquids daily to keep the body hydrated and to flush out impurities.
               NO Smoking! - Smoking aggravates the throat and interferes with the infection-fighting activity of the cilia, the microscopic "fingers" that sweep bacteria out of your lungs and throat. Even if you don't quit for good, at least stop for the duration of your cold.
               Salty Gargle - Dr. Van Ert of San Francisco advises mixing 1 teaspoon of salt into a glass of warm water and gargling away whenever your throat hurts.
               Hot Toddy - Get a good night's sleep and clear a stuffed-up nose by sipping a "hot toddy" or a half a glass of wine before bedtime, suggests Dr. Caughron, a family practitioner specializing in preventive medicine in Charlottesville, Virginia. But don't go overboard! More alcohol than that can stress out your system and make recovery more difficult.
               Get Steamed - Clear congestion and relieve a dry cough by taking a hot steamy shower. Or make a steam tent by draping a towel over your head above a bowl of boiling water.
               Keep Your Germs to Yourself - Cough and blow away, but do it into a disposable tissue instead of sharing them! Then promptly throw the tissue away and wash your hands.
               Medicate - If you decide to take over the counter medication, follow the instructions carefully and only take medication that addresses the symptoms that you are suffering from.

               Other Teas - Celestial Seasonings Sleepytime tea, or tea brewed with hops or valarian her, have natural tranquilizing effects that will help you rest. Add a teaspoon of honey, a simple carbohydrate that has a sedative effect.
               Monolaurian - Dr. Van Ert also recommends this fatty acid (available in capsule form) for it's antiviral effect. He recommends taking two capsules three times a day with some food, for helping the immune system stay fit to battle the cold virus.

I drove over to my parents home the a few weeks ago for dinner. I arrived early, and asked my mother if I could help her finish preparing dinner. The smell of mom’s pot roast in the oven really got my mouth watering and I couldn’t wait for dinner.
She sent me to the pantry to retrieve some honey, I opened the pantry and was amazed at what I saw. Of course their was the standard pantry fare, but many other items were lurking in that pantry. Here were a few: crackers, cookies, potato chips, tortilla chips, oatmeal crème pies, white bread, sun chips, frosted corn flake cereal, pop tarts, and popcorn. No kidding, these were all in her pantry.
I asked my mother if she ate these items often. She said, “Yes, I’m hungry all the time so I just snack on the stuff all day”. She said she eats three meals a day, but gets hungry so she snacks on crackers, chips, etc., then an hour or so later she is hungry again, so she eats more snacks.
The carbohydrate frenzy- trigger foods
Eating the fore mentioned types of carbohydrates all day will make anyone hungry and crave food every hour or so. You see, eating these types of snacks causes our blood sugar to spike and fall very rapidly, triggering our body to crave more food all day long. It’s a viscous cycle with no end. This type of cycle not only sets up our body for weight gain but the possibility of diabetes and a whole host health problems.
How to conquer these carb cravings once and for all
By reading this article I know you are motivated enough to stop these cravings for good. Here are some free tips to get you on your way to healthy eating and craving free!
1. Eat three balanced (protein, carbohydrate, fat) meals a day plus two healthy snacks. This stabilizes blood sugar, reduces cravings, turbo charges your metabolism (your body will naturally burn more calories), and helps you with weight loss.
2. Spend some time in your pantry and even your refrigerator. Pitch all the cookies, crackers, white bread, chips, store bought fruit juices, etc.. These foods have no nutritional value, only empty calories that will no doubt cause you to gain crave more foods and gain weight faster.
3. Eat healthy snacks such as protein shakes, nuts, fruit, veggies with dip, etc. At each snack eat a small portion of protein, carbohydrate and fat. 4. Drink plenty of water.
5. Limit your amount of caffeine. I know, I sure love drinking a cup of coffee first thing in the morning. If you are a caffeine addict, meaning you drink three cups or more of caffeine a day, try to cut it back to one or two. As far as cravings go, caffeine sure gives our bodies a jolt and can make us feel good and even more alert, but after that initial jolt and you “come back down” your body will either crave more caffeine or carbohydrates.
6. The ultimate goal is to eat healthy foods, which in turn give our bodies proper nutrition, which in turn makes us feel better. But this can take time. If you are used to eating junk food, and always craving food, don’t worry. Start out slow if you have to. Your body will take time to adjust to a new way of eating. You may even feel lousy for a few days or even a week, while your body adjusts to the healthy foods. But in the end, you will feel great!

               In the long list of fears known to man, perhaps one of the most difficult to bear is the condition called  social anxiety disorder.  This disorder refers to the constant fear of being criticized by other people. People who have this problem are so self-conscious to the point that they feel that everyone around them is looking at them. In the process, socially anxious people become afraid of the world around them.

               According to National Institute of Mental Health, “...social phobia is characterized by overwhelming anxiety in everyday social situations. It can be any type of situation---such as fear of speaking in formal or informal situations.”  

               Anxiety in social situations is not felt by shy, insecure people alone.  Famous people like the singer  Donny Osmond (the brother of Marie Osmond) also had social anxiety.  In a very intimate interview, Donny Osmond revealed that, for years, he struggled with stage freight and would experience anxiety panic attacks right before a public performance.

               Another famous person diagnosed with social anxiety disorder is singer-actress Barbara Streisand, who, in 1967, became so anxious that she forgot the lyrics of song in front of a large crowd.  She was so embarrassed that she stayed away from performing in public for a long time after that moment of “song amnesia.” 

               The great actor Laurence Olivier who stunned audiences with his theatrical genius also struggled with social phobia for five years just when he was at the peak of his career.

               Social anxiety disorder is not so easy to spot in a person.  A person with so much insecurity and anxiety in being in the middle of a social occasion can still hide his predicament.   Even with all the anxiety, that person can still act witty and gregarious. 


               But there are some people who literally freeze whenever they face a crowd or even a small number of people.  Their excessive self-consciousness somehow paralyzes them, making them unable to function well in social circles.  At first glance, people with social anxiety disorder may exhibit chronic fear,  sweating, trembling, stammering, and blushing whenever they stand in front of people.  They are also easily embarrassed or humiliated by even the slightest hint of being at the center of attention.

               Social phobia affects more than five million Americans and is now the third most common disorder after depression and alcoholism.  It affects all gender and ages but usually starts in childhood or early adolescence. It is often accompanied by depression and some have fallen into the trap of substance abuse in the hope that drugs would help them cope with their anxieties. They feel distress whenever they have this following situations:

l              Being introduced;
l              Being teased;
l              Being criticized;
l              Being at the center of attention; or
l              Being “out of place.”

               One of the most common treatments for social anxiety disorder is called cognitive-behavioral therapy.   Medication such as antidepressant prescriptions are used conjunction with the said therapy. Social anxiety, as well as other forms of anxiety, can be successfully treated today if a patient works with a qualified therapist or doctor.  A physician can determine whether the symptoms that alarm you are due to  anxiety disorder, or if these are symptoms of another medical condition.  As they say, there is nothing to fear but fear itself.  Commitment and determination to face one's fears will surely lead to freedom, confidence, and a better appreciation for people and life itself.

Moreover, rest homes have become a major component of the health care system for frail elderly persons and  psychiatric patients. Although psychoactive medications are frequently used in rest homes, there is little detailed information about the extent of such use, its supervision, or its effects. In a survey of a random sample of 55 rest homes in Massachusetts, it was found that 55 percent of the residents were taking at least one psychoactive medication. Antipsychotic medications were being administered to 39 percent; of these, 18 percent were receiving two or more such drugs.

The effects of psychoactive medications vary with their chemical composition, the doses in which they are taken, and the sensitivity of the person taking them. Taking other psychoactive substances in combination with psychoactive medications can be dangerous, especially because some of the interactions among these substances are not well understood.

It is best to remember that psychoactive medications should not be taken from old prescriptions without seeing the doctor first. These drugs should not be given to anyone else as prescription is individualized and personal.

Okay, so we already know that exercise is good for us. We try to work out on a regular basis, reminding ourselves that the payoff is well worth the effort.
Still, we all have times when we 'fall off the wagon' and somehow miss those exercise sessions. We get sick, there's a big deadline at work, relatives come for a visit, or the kids are out of school.....there's no end to the reasons why we take a break from exercising.
But did you know that CONSISTENCY is the key to success in health and fitness? It takes only about two weeks to start losing your level of cardiovascular fitness when you stop exercising. After about three to four weeks without exercise, you'll start losing muscle (losing muscle is the WORST thing we can do when trying to lose fat!). Source: Shape magazine; June 2005.
We agree, it just doesn't seem fair that fat 'goes on' faster than it comes off and now we learn that we can get 'out of shape' in just a few short weeks! Hey, we don't write these rules, we just report them!
So what's the take-home advice? Stay consistent in your workouts. Get into the gym at least three times each week. Can't make it three times? Two is better than none! For that matter, one exercise session is better than none! We only really backtrack in our fitness levels when we quit exercising completely.
Consistency is the key, so let's all take whatever steps we need to take to make sure we're getting to the gym regularly. Maybe we need to set an appointment to work out with a friend. Maybe we need to go to the gym early, before the day gets crazy. Maybe we need to go to the gym late, after dinner is done and the day is winding down. Whatever we need to do, let's do it today. Food manufacturers can easily manipulate a whole population by the products they make available at a cheap price. The way those foods are processed and the things that are added to them can decide the level of health that millions of people experience. These days the most widely marketed and consumed foods in the western world create health problems that have turned entire populations into 'cash cows' for the drug companies and medical industry. You have a choice about the foods you eat and you can choose good health or sickness.
You can also use supplements to help protect you from the glues, synthetic hormones and genetically modified pseudo-foods that are found in many mass marketed products and restaurant fare. Healthy foods are also available. Know your enemy! The biggest glues that have helped transform America into the land of the sick in the 21th century are gluten, found in wheat flour and casein, found in cow dairy, the same casein that is used to make Elmer's glue.
Why else would there be a cow on the label? Before the 20th century and the invention of steel rollers, most breads where made with a mix of whole, spouted grains. Sprouting a grain converts the sticky, acidic gluten into alkaline vitamins and amino acids. Including the outer husks increases the food's mineral content. Sprouting grains for breads was the traditional method because it was an easy way to break open the hard seed and make the tough, outer husk useable.
The steel roller permitted manufacturers to grind the seed, separate out the mineral rich outer husks, isolate the sticky gluten and use that to make soft, acidic white bread. Why is wheat 40% of the American diet? Because it's cheap and in it's refined, hybridized state, it can be shaped into anything, except healthy nutrition. It is a major contributor to society's dangerous over consumption of carbohydrates. What is made out of wheat flour? Bread, pizza, pasta, bagels, muffins and pastries.
It's used as a thickening ingredient in all kinds of foods, soups, candies, and sauces. Wheat gluten paste makes a great glue, but do you want to eat glue? Use 100% sprouted breads that you'll find in the freezer section. Cows are big animals with little heads. Goats and sheep have large heads and small bodies, proportioned more like humans. Cow dairy products are high in sugar and casein, both of which are sticky glues. Goat and sheep milk products aren't.
Why do companies use such a sticky, sweet food? Because cows are big milk producers and not very picky eaters, in comparison to goats and sheep, so cow's milk is cheap! Gluten and casein stick to the walls of the digestive system, blocking absorption and slowly degrading the health. Soy is not a good alternative. Rice Milk and Rice Ice Cream are better. For infant's and children, goat's milk mixed with carrot juice is a complete food and quite tasty.
Goat and sheep cheeses are better for people and sheep's cheese is sweeter than goat's cheese. Use the enzyme combination Proactazyme Plus #1525-0 to clean out both the gluten and casein . For stronger, short term cleaning use Small Intestine Detox #848-2. White cane sugar is a sticky, highly refined, acidic poison completely lacking in nutrition, that is designed to create sugar cravings that it can never really satisfy.
The average American consumes a cup of white sugar daily in their various foods. It's so potent and toxic that if it were introduced today it would be available by prescription only. Constipation is a common condition in the very young and the more mature. It’s most often a problem for infants, toddlers, and persons over the age of 55.
Fortunately, constipation remedies are simple, effective, and often free. What are the most common constipation remedies?
Your most important constipation remedies may be the medications you don’t take.
Ask your doctor about alternatives to prescriptions that may be causing you to suffer chronic constipation. In today’s fast food generation and sedentary life styles, not only do we have a problem in America with obesity, we also have a problem with constipation. Something in the past we did not always want to talk about. But in reality we do need to address this as it can have an array of adverse effects on the body.
The colon is a large holding tank for waste material that needs to be eliminated on a daily basis. When this does not occur and you are going only every two, three or more days then you have constipation. After only twenty-four hours if your stool has not been eliminated, the proteins begin to putrefy and your system becomes toxic and the trouble begins. These toxins then get into the bloodstream where the liver, kidneys, lungs, skin, and lymphatic system needs to work harder to eliminate these poisons. A clean fully functioning colon means that good nutrients are being absorbed into the bloodstream.

Diet:

Vitamins like A, E, C and B vitamins are also helpful as well as garlic and aloe vera.
Water:
Water is essential for elimination. You would not expect a toilet to flush waste material without water. So it is with your body. Unfortunately, so many people don’t even drink one glass of water a day. The average person needs at least 8, eight-ounce glasses of water per day. Even if you are not thirsty, drink water especially if you are feeling toxic. Note: if you take psyllium seed for relief, you must drink a lot of water with it.
Exercise:
One needs to exercise so that your intestines can speed up the elimination process. Between drinking a lot of water and exercising and a good natural diet, you have a better chance of unclogging yourself. If you do not get relief you may want to try doing coffee or lemon enemas. The solution is making healthier changes in many areas of your life.
Eat better.  While this seems impossible in your fast-paced, fast food life, you can make smarter choices.  If you must eat out order steamed vegetables and salads with protein as the side dish. Drink water or juices. Avoid alcohol, desserts, and processed wheat products when at home, too. Eat whole grains like oatmeal, wheat berries, or brown rice instead of sugary cereals, bread or pasta. Make green vegetables part of your meals, and snack on fruit.
If your supplements or prescription drugs are constipating you, and you must take them long term, add some flax seed to your diet. Sounds awful, doesn’t it? It’s easy. What is Constipation?
Constipation is a very common condition affecting many people.  It tends to affect more women than men. What Causes Constipation?
Constipation can be caused by a number of different factors.  A number of which are described below.

Some drugs e.g. painkillers and some types of cough medicines may cause constipation.  By taking medical laxatives which my relieve the symptoms in the short term may actually increase the problem as the body becomes resistant to them over time.

There are a number of other causes which include
Not being active
Too much calcium or too much iron in your diet
Drinking too much strong tea or coffee which has a diuretic effect by making you urinate more often thus dehydrating your body
Bowel muscles not being strong enough – this is more common in elderly people as their muscles in their whole body become weaker
Recent abdominal surgery – this may have the effect of weakening your bowel muscles
Anxiety
IBS can be a cause of constipation.

What are the Symptoms of Constipation?
The symptoms of constipation are as follows.
Stomach ache and cramps
Feeling bloated

Change in your normal bowel pattern
Headaches
Furred tongue
Loss of appetite
Fatigue and depression
Should you experience any of these conditions and they are with you for more than a couple of days, it is important that you see a doctor.  It is always better to be safe than sorry.  Sometimes these symptoms could mean something much more serious.
