Visual problems like eyes strain may result from overusing the muscles of your eyes. If not careful, eye strain will occur in any eye muscle held in one position for a long period of time.
These eye straining activities are as follows: reading, watching television, or staring at the computer.
People with occupations that require lots of staring such as dressmaking, designers, or computer engineers are prone to developing eye strain. Even people who do a lot of reading is prone to developing eye strain like medical students, lawyers, scientists, and researchers.
The muscles of your inner eye tightens and irritates your eyes, making you feel very uncomfortable, resulting to eye strain. A five-minute break from time to time is very good to your eyes.
Eye strain may be caused by improper lighting, excessive glaring at the computer screen, bad position of the computer screen, or difficulty reading copy material.
Eye strain may present with the following symptoms: pain and burning in and behind the eyes. There may also be headache and eye fatigue. Blurred vision, dry eyes, itching eyes, and burning eyes.
It is important to consult a qualified eye doctor at once when you experience such symptoms to prevent possible damage and to learn eye exercises that you can do.
If you suspect that your eye strain is due to too much staring at the computer monitor, then you may adjust the contrast of your monitor to high. Also try to reposition your screen to avoid glare.
When outdoors, do not be caught dead without sunglasses.
You may try to arrange your work station so the lighting will not hurt your eyes. Vision breaks are also recommended, so is changing your eye focus once in a while to relax the eye muscles.
Eye exercises such as rolling the eyes and tightly close the eye will greatly relieve you with your eye strain.
Make sure that the computer screens are clean and streak-free.

Eye Surgery has become a mainstream method of vision correction, and this article will explain the advantages and disadvantages of three different methods being offered to the medical consumer.

Lasik Eye Surgery

LASIK is the acronym for Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis and is an eye surgical system which permanently corrects vision by removing a thin layer of the cornea. This procedure works best on patients with moderate to high degrees of myopia (nearsightedness), low to moderate degrees of hyperopia (farsightedness) and astigmatism associated with myopia, and who have thick corneas. It is the most well-known surgical vision correction method.

People with normal eye sight see objects clearly because images are brought into a correct focal point by the cornea and lens of the eye. Ideally, the cornea’s curvature is evenly matched to its length in a normal eye. People with astigmatism, myopia or hyperopia have irregularly shaped corneas, so the objects seen are not focused properly. LASIK changes corneal shape by precise removal of corneal tissue, and by doing so corrects the eyes’ focusing power.

There are, however, risks to LASIK eye surgery.

There is a remote chance of complete loss of vision. If this happens, it is usually because the patient had a pre-existing condition which should have precluded the surgery in the first place, such as pregnancy, cataracts, arthritis, diabetes, glaucoma, or lupus. People with large pupils are also poor candidates for LASIK. Dry eye syndrome will be aggravated by this procedure.

A few patients complain that they permanently see "ghost" images, have blurred vision, diminished contrast and bad night vision. When LASIK was first introduced, 5% of patients had post-operative complaints; however, refinements in the procedure have caused this rate to drop to less than 1% if LASIK is performed by skilled practitioners and patients are properly screened prior to surgery. If problems do occur, they can often be resoved by a retreatment.

FDA has approved LASIK laser eye surgery since 1998. While there are a lot of satisfied patients, there are however no long term studies about its effects. Realize the limitations and the risks of LASIK eye surgery before you sigh up for the procedure.

Intacs

Though less well known, these small implants can improve vision in patients with mild to moderate myopia without the risk of permanent eye damage inherent in the tissue removal technique of LASIK. Intacs are semi-circular disks implanted in the cornea which stretch it to assume a flatter shape. Though slightly less precise than LASIK, they are removeable and replaceable, so if the patient has an unexpected over- or under-correction, the implant can be removed and another of a different size inserted to obtain the desired correction. The implants are located at the edge of the cornea, so the central visual area is completely intact and undamaged, and the strength of the cornea is undiminished, making it a better option for pilots and those who engage in contact sports where eye injury is a possibility.

Intacs are unsuitable for severe myopia and more than minor astigmatism (1.00 diopters), as the cornea can only be stretched so far. If the Intacs are removed, vision returns to its preoperative level. Aside from vision correction, Intacs are also used to treat keratoconus.

Intacs are FDA approved and 10 year studies have revealed no major problems with Intacs and very few patient complaints; however, because the procedure takes more training than LASIK, there are fewer eye surgery clinics offering it. However, the Intacs website gives a list of practitioners in each state, as well a few in Canada, Europe and Mexico.

Implants

Because many people do not want to risk LASIK and Intacs cannot help those with severe vision problems, intraocular lens implants (IOL) are a new option approved by the FDA in 2004 to correct moderate to severe nearsightedness. The Artisan lens, manufactured by Ophtec, is similar to the type of lens implant utilized to restore vision following cataract eye surgery.

The new IOL, called the Artisan, is intended for only patients who have 2.5 diopters or less of astigmatism.

The artificial lens does not replace the natural lens, but is inserted in front of it. The main problem found with the implant was the steady loss of endothelial cells in the corneas of patients who received the implants. The endothelium is a layer of cells that line the undersurface of the cornea and are essential in keeping the cornea clear. A three-year study showed a continual steady loss of endothelial cells of 1.8 percent a year. At this point, no one can predict whether this loss will proceed at the same rate indefinitely, or even its impact on corneal function.

To minimize long-term effects of the device on the corneal endothelium, the FDA is requiring that the new lenses be labelled to specify that they should only be implanted in patients whose corneal endothelial cells are thick enough to withstand minor cell loss.

More serious complications were few: retinal detachment (0.6%), cataract development (0.6%), and corneal swelling (0.4%). The FDA is requiring Ophtec to conduct a five-year follow-up survey of its implant patients to better assess the post-surgical incidence of cataract development, retinal detachment and other ophthalmic diseases.

The Artisan lens is intended to be a permanent implant.Though it can be removed surgically, vision may not always return to what it was prior to getting the lens. Because it does not affect astigmatism, patients with this problem might still require glasses.

Face-Washing: The Core Of A Good Skincare Regimen

Word Count:
454

Summary:
Skincare is a very important thing for people who are eager to maintain their appearance, so it is inevitable that people take some time out of their day to wash their face. However, while nobody is likely to dispute the benefits of washing one's face, there are some people who do not fully understand that there is a right way to go about doing it.

Keywords:

Article Body:
The act of washing one's face is one of the fundamental steps that a person can take in the realm of skincare, such that its place as the cornerstone of a skincare regimen is hardly arguable. This is a basic act, one that does not require too much effort or time to be expended in doing it, and really just asks that the person have a reasonable level of manual dexterity and access to a supply of clean water. Washing your face also happens to be one of the very few things that dermatologists are not going to dispute each other over, simply because it works the way it should. Granted, it is advisable that it not be the only part of a skincare regimen, but it does form an integral component.

People should take care to make sure that their hands are clean prior to washing their face, if only because it would be the logical thing to do. Since people are going to be using their hands to wash their face, it would be sensible to make sure that the hands are as clean as possible, to avoid doing damage when the action is supposed to be preventing damage. Aside from the prerequisite water, rinsing the hands with soap can help clean off any visible dirt and acts as a preliminary measure for getting rid of bacteria that might be on there.

Hot water is not advisable for washing your face with. This is a common mistake, particularly because it is a simple matter to confuse hot water with warm water. In reality, warm water is best used because it opens up the pores, allowing the water to flow in and wash things out. Hot water can do this as well, but has the potential to cause damage to the skin, especially if the skin is sensitive. Some people also advocate the use of cold water to close the pores afterwards. The use of cold water for rinsing closes the pores and prevents dirt and other irritants from entering the skin again.

Applying skin cleanser is advisable in between the warm and cold treatments, giving it the chance to seep into the pores and do its job. Applying such topical treatments on closed pores reduces their potency, so rinsing the skin with warm water is advisable. Small amounts are also best, particularly if the skin is sensitive. Cleansers and other topical treatments are best used from the forehead down, unless the instructions specify otherwise. Sensitivity to the cleanser should also be noted, because not all of them follow the same potencies and strengths. In some cases, using smaller amounts helps, but for others, switching to another product completely is the better option.

YOU DON'T HAVE TO SPEND A FORTUNE BE YOUNG LOOKING!
As we age facial muscles weaken, and skin begins to sag. But just as gym workouts can promote the body's youthful strength and suppleness, facial exercise - based on the same principles of dynamic resistance - can strengthen facial muscles. If sagging muscles in your face chin and neck are aging you beyond your years there is a way to reverse the process and make you look healthier, more vibrant, younger.
Facial exercise can transform your looks without cosmetic surgery. One thing facial exercises won’t do is cause wrinkles, but some people think they do. This is absolutely wrong. Properly done facial exercise most certainly does not cause wrinkles.
In fact, exercising the face helps to make women and men look younger for longer, by toning and tightening the facial muscles, just like toning the muscles of the body firms them up.
But, don't make the mistake of thinking that all facial exercise programs are the same. Expensive devices will not give you better results. Electrodes are very hard to position properly and can be painful if you have sensitive skin.
Sagging, bagging and deep hanging folds in older looking faces are, caused by lack of facial tone. Exercising the muscles in your face is crucial to maintaining a young appearance. Beauty treatments with creams can't lift sagging muscles.
Surgical facelifts can be costly, painful and sometimes dangerous. Give your face a structured work out and you’ll reap the benefits for all the years to come. Our program includes deep breathing to enhance your exercises. The deep breathing will not only bring extra oxygen to your facial muscles, but to your whole body. Oxygen is the key to these exercises.
Some surgeons even give facial exercises to their patients after their face-lift. Why not, just skip the surgeon and do the exercise? A good facial exercise program lifts and tones the facial muscles. My program comes with a guarantee, and I have yet to refund any money. For more information go to http://www.lynchnetenterprises.com

Face Some Facts on Sensitive Skin Care

Word Count:
536

Summary:
Providing the right sensitive skin care can be particularly difficult, as many skin products will have a negative effect. To provide the best sensitive skin care, an overall approach for the best possible care is needed. The article focuses on the issues people with sensitive skin encounters and some sensitive skin care tips.

Keywords:
sensitive skin care

Article Body:
Does your skin react quickly to both heat and cold? Does it easily fall prey to sunburn and windburn?  Or is your skin usually dry, delicate, and prone to allergic reactions? Do some detergents, cosmetics, and alcohol irritate your skin? If you answered yes to all those questions, then you probably have very  sensitive skin.
The skin is subject to the harsh rays of the sun. Depending on your job, the skin can come in contact with harsh cleaning chemicals, dirt, grime, and grease. Even when one is relaxing and having fun, like in a swimming pool, our body can come in contact with chlorine and other harsh chemicals.
People with sensitive skin face many problems. The redness, irritation and blotches associated with sensitive skin can be uncomfortable and embarrassing. It can be annoying having to avoid everything that may cause sensitive skin to flare up. Providing the right sensitive skin care can be particularly difficult, as many skin products will have a negative effect.
Sensitive skin is really a lay term, not a medical term. Specifically, having sensitive skin entails being allergic or easily irritated by a number of external substances or effects ranging from the sun to the different chemicals found in and outside the home. Skin sensitivity also includes having an allergic reaction to certain elements found in food or even in plants or animals.
Different people have different levels of skin sensitivity. People with sensitive skin have low tolerance  for certain products or environmental conditions. People with sensitive skin may react quickly to chemicals, heat or wind by developing red, blotchy and irritated skin. Some people may react to a product, while for others it produces no effect. Similarly, some people may have a very severe reaction, while others only have a mild reaction.
Every person should follow the same basic skin care routine. However, for a person with sensitive skin, there are some differences.
The basic steps to sensitive skin care should be done on a daily basis. The following are some sensitive skin care tips:

Keep skin hydrated. Drink plenty of water and hydrate your skin in fragrance-free moisturizers made for sensitive skin.

Avoid artificial heat and air conditioning. This can irritate and dry the skin. Humidifiers can help to add some moisture back into the air.

Limit exfoliation and harsh scrubbing of the skin. This can take away the lipid barrier which protects your skin from bacteria.

Beware of perfumes and scented lotions. These can cause redness and allergic reactions.

Use a daily sunblock. Even if your skin doesn't burn, prolonged exposure in the sun can cause cell damage and increase sensitivity of the skin.

Cleanse your skin after perspiration. Even your own sweat can cause a negative reaction on ultra-sensitive skin.

Use products with soothing ingredients. Chamomile, Aloe Vera, Green Tea, Oats, and Grape Seed can calm skin irritation.

Use products with Mandelic Acid for anti-aging. This gentle Alpha Hydroxy Acid has a slightly larger molecule size, which results in even skin penetration, reducing or eliminating irritation.

Sensitive skin care is more than just choosing the right sensitive skin care product. To provide the best sensitive skin care, an overall approach for the best possible care is needed.

Do you know best way to wash your face and which products to use? Dermatologists say that there are several ways to cleanse the face, but the ingredients that work for one person may not work for someone else. What’s more, there is a barrage of new products to choose from.
To help you decide which methods and tools for cleansing the skin are best for you, dermatologist Zoe D. Draelos, M.D., clinical associate professor in the department of dermatology at Wake Forest University School of Medicine, Winston-Salem, N.C., discusses skin regimens that are appropriate for each skin type.
“There are an overwhelming number of facial cleansing products, implements and tools available today. The most important thing an individual can do to determine the best facial cleansing routine is to visit a dermatologist who can provide recommendations based on the patient’s skin type and lifestyle,” said Dr. Draelos.
According to Dr. Draelos, there are three methods to cleanse the face:

facial cleansers
implements
cleansers and tools.
Facial Cleansers – Soap

Dermatologists don’t recommend the use of soap on the face. In particular, a type of deodorant soap, comber, contains fragrance and harsh detergent, which is more suitable for the body.
Mild soap-free cleansing bars composed of synthetic detergent, called syndets contain a low pH. A low pH is more acidic, so it doesn’t disturb the acid coating of the skin. A high pH, which is more alkaline, would disturb the skin’s acid mantle and thus irritate the skin. However, facial cleansing bars may not remove oil from an oily complexion. Therefore, liquid facial cleansers would be more suitable for this skin type.
Lipid-free Cleansers
“Lipid-free cleansers are best for patients with excessively dry or sensitive skin,” said Dr. Draelos. “However, they are not very effective at removing oil or environmental dirt and are only recommended where minimal cleansing is needed.” Ingredients in lipid-free cleansers include glycerin, cetyl alcohol, stearyl alcohol, sodium laurel and sulfate, among others. Dermatologists don’t recommend this type of cleanser for skin with acne because the product would moisturize the skin.
Cleansing Cream
Cleansing creams contain water, mineral oil, petrolatum and waxes. They are best for those with dry skin. Cleansing creams cleanse the skin as well as remove cosmetics.
Abrasive Scrubs
Abrasive scrubs not only cleanse the skin but also exfoliate it. “Scrubs were developed after it was found that exfoliating produced smoother skin,” stated Dr. Draelos. “The challenge with abrasive scrubs is that the scrubbing granules can cause irritation, redness or slight wounds on the face.”
Those with sensitive skin should not use harsh, abrasive scrubs that contain, among other ingredients, aluminum oxide particles and ground fruit pits. But even those with sensitive skin may use a mild facial scrub that contains polyethylene beads or sodium tetraborate decahydrate granules, added Dr. Draelos.
Skin Cleansing Tools
Skin cleansing tools were developed for those who want to achieve thorough facial cleansing. “Individuals who use implements or tools with cleansers often feel that they are getting a deeper clean, but cleansing involves the chemical interaction of the cleanser with the skin accompanied by the physical act of scrubbing,” said Dr. Draelos. “Dermatologists can help individuals select the appropriate implement or tool to include in a good facial hygiene routine.”
Woven Mesh
This implement helps cleanse and exfoliate the skin. Non-woven, polyester fiber sponges are too harsh on the skin. However, woven mesh sponges are appropriate for most skin types, are gentler, and contain a mild cleanser.
Face Cloths
Disposable facial cleansing cloths release a foaming cleanser when wet. “The recent addition of humectants and emollients to these cloths can decrease the damage to the skin’s natural barrier that occurs during cleansing and help smooth the skin,” stated Dr. Draelos. “These ingredients also are especially beneficial for those of us with dry skin who need to wash frequently.”
Loose, open-weave cloths help exfoliate the skin and are recommended for sensitive skin. Tight or closed-weave cloths also exfoliate the skin but to a greater extent. These are recommended for oily skin.
Cleansing Pouch
The cleansing pouch contains two fiber cloths with different size holes. The Size of the hole determines the amount of cleanser that is released onto the skin.
Face Brush Individuals can use the facial cleanser they choose with this electric cleansing brush that contains an oscillating brush head with soft bristles.
“While each of these cleansers and tools offers unique advantages, ultimately, working with a dermatologist to determine the skin’s tolerance for certain cleansing ingredients is the best way to keep facial skin clean and healthy,” said Dr. Draelos.

1. What is Threading?
Threading is an ancient method of hair removal still used in many countries in the Middle East as well as India and Pakistan. Called khite in Arabic and fatlah in Egyptian, it's a less common method in the West for removing hair at the root. Traditionally, threading is used on the entire face, including upper lip, chin, eyebrows, sideburns and cheeks.  Hair Threading can be done either at home or at many salons. Threading is a great solution for removing fine hair like the hair that grows above the lip. It's more effective than shaving, or bleaching, but it can be as painful as waxing depending upon how sensitive your skin is and how thick your hair grows.
The procedure is called Threading because you use normal sewing thread to remove the hair below the root. Honestly, it's quicker and easier to have it done at the salon but if you're into home remedies, here's what you need to know.
2. How does Threading work?
In general, cotton thread is twisted and rolled along the surface of the skin entwining the hair in the thread which is then lifted out from the follicle.
Start with about 2 feet of strong sewing thread. Take one end of the thread in each hand and knot them together so you end up with a continuous circle. Holding the thread with both hands, wind the thread 10 times until it resembles a bow tie. The wound portion should be in the middle. Next, slide the wound portion towards one of your hands by spreading the fingers of the other hand while closing the fingers of the other. Practice moving the wound area back and forth by alternating the fingers that you spread and close. Once you reach the point that you can easily maneuver the wound area back and forth, you are ready to proceed.
Because you have more area to work with, practice the procedure on leg hairs until you get the hang of it. Sit down on a chair and prop one leg up so it's at a comfortable height. Select the hair that you want to target. Place the wound side of the thread on one side of the hair and then lay the thread from the opposite end around both sides of the hair. Now, do the finger stretching and closing routine to quickly move the wound area to the other side of the thread. This will capture the hair and pull it from the root. Repeat the process until you have treated the entire area.
3. General Tips and Information
It sounds confusing. That's why it's recommended that you have it done at the salon the first time. Pay attention to how it's all done, and then try it at home. Threading is relatively inexpensive. Just think of paying to have it done as tuition because once you learn, you can continue to do it at home. Depending upon how quickly your hair grows back, you may only have to thread once per month. There are no real dangerous side effects to threading although, if you are especially sensitive to pain, you might find the process uncomfortable. The up side is once you learn how to perform the threading procedure, you can do it quickly and as frequently as you need to.
Threading is inexpensive, fast and neat. It's considered less painful than plucking and it's Good for eyebrows and facial hair. Like plucking, results can last up to four weeks.

It is no surprise that we live in a youth-oriented culture. It
seems that every year the standard of beauty to which we are all
exposed and aspire, gets younger and younger at the same time
that Americans are growing older. Because of the emphasis in
prevention and treatment of disease, the American Baby Boomers,
those 50 and over, are healthier and more fit than people of the
same age in previous generations.

They have the stamina, energy and prowess of people half of
their chronological age. This causes many "Baby Boomers" to
exhibit an intense interest in procedures and techniques to help
them look as young and fit as they feel.

This is the point at which many Americans consider plastic
surgery. Signs of aging on the face are the most common
symptoms causing people to seek out plastic surgery. The four
most common facial complaints are:

Loose skin: The areas on the face where we see loose skin most
often are the jowls, the neck and the skin around the eyes.

Fine Lines: Tiny wrinkles on the face increase in number with
time and are more plentiful in lighter skinned people. The most
common sites are around the mouth and eyes but they can also
develop anywhere on the face. These lines are made worse by the
sun.

Bagginess around the eyes: Loose skin is only one of the causes
of bagginess around the eyes. Additionally, small fat pads
around the eyes can move from the top and sides of the eye
region and end up resting beneath the eyes. Shadows emphasize
the problem and if there is any inherited darkening of the skin
the problem becomes even more noticeable.

Exaggeration of Features: As we age, some of our features

continue to grow. Although the rate of growth is unperceivable
year to year, eventually, over time we can see that there is an
actual lengthening of our earlobes and nose. Our brow may have
lowered and there is an increase of fat below the chin, and in
the fold between the nose and upper lip.

All of these complaints can be addressed through plastic
surgery. The success, risks and benefits differ depending on
the areas of the face and neck the surgery is to correct, as
well as other factors such as the age of the patient and the
severity of the problem.

What is a facelift? The facelift is the classical surgical
response to aging problems of the face and neck. In a facelift
the skin is separated from the underlying tissue and pulled
upwards and backwards. The excess skin is them removed
resulting in a lifting and tightening of the appearance of the
skin.

There are varying procedures that go deeper, some as far down
as the layer adjacent to the facial bones. Surgeons determine
how deep to go with the procedure based on the needs of the
patient, on a case by case basis.

What results can you expect from a facelift?: A facelift will
lift the areas of your face that are sagging, such as your
cheeks and jowls. It will also tighten the loose skin on your
neck as well as remove excess fat from under your chin and
alleviate that "turkey neck" look.

What about scarring? The scars from a facelift can be
extensive, although not easily detectable. Scars will more than
likely extend from above the ear, down the front of the ear,
around the ear lobe, up the back of the ear, and into the
hairline behind the ear. There can be another incision beneath
the chin.

Most scars from a facelift are hard to see once they heal.
Scars can be camouflaged with make-up within three weeks and
should fade beyond detection in one to three months.
What complications can occur? Some of the complications that
can result from a facelift are: Hematoma, Skin death; facial

weakness or paralysis; attached earlobe (pixie ear) and open ear
canal.
What about lines and wrinkles? Although the results of a
facelift and other facial plastic surgery can be dramatic the
signs of aging that a facelift will not alleviate are wrinkles
and fine lines on your face. Additional procedures such as Botox
Cosmetic™, laser resurfacing, chemical peels and dermabrasion of
the face are needed to address lines and wrinkle.

Is there a safer alternative to facelifts and other invasive
procedures? Amazing advances have been made recently in topical
preparations to combat the signs of aging. These topical
preparations are a safe alternatives to many of the invasive
procedures detailed above. One such preparation is Rejuvinol™ .
It is a unique nutrient-rich moisturizer that nourishes tones
and rehydrates for firmer, more resilient skin.

What benefits can be realized from Rejuvinol™? Users of
Rejuvinol have reported a 50-90% reduction in the appearance of
fine lines and wrinkles within minutes of application. They
report that the product diminish the appearance of forehead
creases, droopy brows, crow's feet, furrows, laugh lines,

appearance of acne scars, stretch marks, Rosacea, and enlarged

What are the side effects of using Rejuvinol™? There have been
no reported side effects of using Rejuvinol™.

wrinkles, Rejuvinol is as affective as Botox Cosmetic™,
dermabrasion and chemical peels with none of the risk of

The skin on your face is exposed to a barrage of toxins and environmental damage on a daily basis.  It must withstand pollution, ultraviolet rays, wind, and debris, as well as the harmful chemicals in 99% of all skin care products and cosmetics.  The skin on your face is the most delicate skin on your body.  Therefore there are many specialty products that have been developed specifically for your facial skin. It can be difficult to decipher which products perform which tasks, and which products would work the best with your skin type.  Here’s a primer on the most common facial products available.
A Word About Facial Skin
Before you can select the facial skin care products that would work best for you, you need to determine your skin type.  Basically, facial skin is categorized as either normal, oily, dry, sensitive, or combination.  If you’ve never had problems with oily skin or dry skin, it’s likely that you have “normal” skin.  The pores of normal skin are small and the overall skin tone is even.  Oily skin, on the other hand results in medium to large pores that are prone to blockage and breakouts.  Oily skin is usually slightly too moderately greasy and is thicker and firmer than normal skin.   Dry skin feels tight and itchy, especially in the winter.  It is thinner than normal skin and may even be slightly rough to the touch.  People with sensitive skin are usually the ones who actually know their skin type.  Sensitive skin is prone to rashes and breakouts from any kind of irritants such as sun, perfumes, shaving cream, temperature extremes, and even soap.  Avoid products with dyes, per!
fumes, or unnecessary chemical ingredients in all skin conditions.  As its name implies, combination skin has both dry and oily patches.  Most commonly, combination skin exhibits an oily “T-Zone” (forehead, nose and chin) with dry skin on the cheeks and around the eyes.
Facial Skin Care Products
Facial Cleansers:  Soap can be very drying to facial skin.  So it is best to use a facial wash or cleanser that is specifically designed for the face.
Skin Toners:  Skin toners offer extra cleaning and help to restore the pH balance of your facial skin.  However, these products can be quite drying, so if you have dry or sensitive skin, you will not need to use a skin toner.
Anti Aging Creams:  Facial skin care creams made of antioxidants (particularly vitamins C and E), vitamin A or alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs), are commonly used to help reduce the appearance of wrinkles and restore luster to the skin.  These products may make a variety of claims regarding their efficacy and time required to see results.  Use caution when reviewing a facial skin care product that claims to be a “miracle cure” to aging.
Eye Creams: Eye creams are specifically made to pamper the delicate skin under and around the eyes.  They help to plump and tighten under eye skin and they can reduce fine lines and wrinkles (like crows feet) that develop around the eyes. I recommend “Parfait Visage”
Moisturizers:  Moisturizers help to hydrate skin and reduce the effects of aging over time.
Sunscreen: Sunscreen is the most important facial skin care product for the health and protection of your skin.  The sun’s rays, even in small amounts can be very damaging to the skin on your face.  Protect it with a natural sunscreen of at least an SPF 15 everyday.
Facial Cleansers: The fragile skin on your face needs a gentle cleanser that is designed for facial skin.  Facial cleansers may come in liquid, foam, gel, towelette, or bar form.
AHAs: Alpah Hydroxy Acids (AHAs) work wonders at smoothing out the texture of skin and reducing the visibility of fine lines. These products work by sloughing off dead skin cells to unblock and cleanse pores, to improve oily skin or acne, and to improve skin condition in general.  The extent of exfoliation that a facial skin care product is capable of depends on the type and concentration of the AHA, its pH (acidity), and other ingredients in the product.
Exfoliators: These facial skin care products utilize a variety of ingredients such as nuts, alpha hydroxy acids, and microcrystals to gently remove dead skin cells and reveal the healthy, radiant skin underneath.  They are best used occasionally to restore luster to dull or dry skin.
Sunless Tanners: As their name implies, sunless tanners are used to tan the skin without exposure to the sun.  These products vary greatly in quality, time requirements, and ease of application.  They should be used with caution.  A poor quality or poorly applied sunless tanner will produce unnatural results.  These sunless tanners also contain harmful chemicals which can be absorbed by your skin.

Summary:
Facial Treatments are one of the ways by which you could keep your face glowing at all times.

Keywords:
Clear Facials, Facial treatments, Massage Therapy, Body Treatment, Body beauty treatments

Article Body:
"In earlier days, people did not bother much about getting facial treatments.  The logic was simple – Their facial skin was never in danger of being over-exposed to pollution.  The most important trend to this is that a lot of people want their faces to glow irrespective of what the ambience is.  In such a scenario, facial treatments are the only way by which you could keep your face glowing.

Why are Facial Treatments important in Toronto?

Let me first tell you that facial treatments are very important in any cosmopolitan city of the world as these are the places that are most prone to dust and pollution.  Toronto is not an exception though I must say that people do facial treatments in Toronto for completely different reasons.

Toronto does not do too well in the winter seasons with the mercury dropping to sub-zero temperatures.  In such a season, the chances of a skin cracking up are extremely high.  Since the face is directly exposed to the ambience, it stands the highest risk of being damaged at least superficially.  Thus, it is important for residents of Toronto to get their facial treatments done to maintain the complexion of the skin.

Facial treatments – growing popular with foreigners

Facial Treatments have started gaining popularity amongst the foreigners to Canada or Toronto.  The residents of Canada hardly complain of the extreme weather conditions.  The reason is not difficult to imagine as people are born and bred and adapt to the conditions well.  It is the foreigners section that faces a lot of issues in dealing with their facial complexion.

Facial Treatments is something that one can do in their homes.  People do not need to spend a lot of money in going to spas to get their facial treatments done.  All they have to do is to understand how facial treatments are done and get started with the exercise. It is truly recommended to visit a qualified spa to get the most results.

Facial Treatments are considered to be important for maintaining the complexion of the face.  Residents in all major cities of the globe have thought long and hard and have deduced that it is important for the complexion of their face to be maintained at all times.  Facial Treatments can be a single bleach of the face or applying cream on the face.  Simply put, these things work as facial treatments and do the trick for you."

Even though it is a good thing that the adolescent skin is well-hydrated, excessive facial oil can lead to acne formation.

Normally, dermatologists or skin care specialists only recommend mild and simple skin care regimen to teenagers, for their skin is still young. Apart from the usual skin care daily routines recommended to adolescents, teen facial is also one of the best ways to keep the youngsters’ skin clean and acne-free. A facial treatment formulated for teenagers should have the following components:

Teen facial packages at salons and spas

Numerous salons and spas are now offering teen facial packages that are fit for teenagers’ young and sensitive skin. Although these packages may be a bit costly, getting a professional facial is not a bad option if teens want their whiteheads and blackheads extracted by skilled estheticians.

In addition to the proper removal of unwanted dead skin cells in the face, teens can also seek skin care advices and product recommendations from these specialized spas and salons offering facial treatments.

As for those who do not have the budget to go to a salon or spa to get a good skin care facial treatment, home-made teen facial treatments are the best alternative. However, it is still a must for teenagers to know their skin types before applying home-made facial creams on their face. The following are the different skin types and the suitable skin care facial treatments for each type.

   1. Dry skin

Although dry skin is rare in most teenagers, those who do have dry skin should maintain a daily application of mild moisturizing cleansing products and hydrating masks. Teens should avoid toning products that contain witch hazel, alcohol, as well as other ingredients that can dehydrate the skin.

   2. Oily skin

For teenagers with oily skin, a home-based facial treatment should consists of cleansing products that are meant for acne prone and oily skin. The masks should be clay based and the moisturizers should be oil free.

   3. Sensitive skin

Teens with sensitive skin should make use of products that contain very mild ingredients. Products that are formulated for sensitive skin are also the top picks to use. Exfoliating cloths and products should be used gently. A sensitive skin type should also be treated with mild and non-irritating moisturizers and toners.

   4. Combination skin

A combination skin type requires the use of mild cleansers, light moisturizers, as well as hydrating moisturizers in areas of the face that are dry. To normalize the skin tone, teens with a combination type of skin should use skin care products that contain alpha-hydroxyl acids.

As for teens with skin complications, they can try photo facial, facial peel, and microdermabrasion treatments as these can efficiently improve the appearance and condition of the skin.

A secret has been revealed in the news over the past few weeks. I was a part of that secret. What was the secret you ask? Men are now using skin care products as a part of their daily activities!
I started a few months ago due to something I learned about myself. I had my picture taken. Not just a standard picture. I had my picture taken with a special ultraviolet camera and light that shows damaged skin due to excessive sun exposure. First they took a picture of my face with standard light. Although not a flattering picture, it looked like I expected. Then they took a picture of my face with the ultraviolet light. What did I look like? I looked like I had a face FULL of freckles. Only these freckles weren't the cute ones that would have showed up in the first picture. They showed that I have a significant amount of sun damage. I guess my early years of working and playing outside all summer long with little or no sun protection is catching up with me.
It is common knowledge that sun damaged skin will cause premature signs of aging skin (wrinkling, "leathery" appearance and feel, etc.) as well as being a cause of skin cancer. So, I decided to do something about it. One of those things is to take better care of my skin. I am using skin care products that have a sunscreen built in. These same products also contain enzymes that can help speed cell renewal in sun damaged skin.
Yes, the secret is out. I am using skin care products every day. My wife says my complexion is also better because of it. I look forward to having my picture taken in the future. Maybe my complexion isn't the only thing that is improving.

Factors of Risk in Common Forms of Gout

Word Count:

Summary:
Gout is known to be a rheumatoid form of arthritis that causes inflammation, intense pain, discomfort and swelling of the affected regions. Gout mainly tends to affect the joints, especially those of the lower body limbs, such as toes, heels, ankles, knees. In some cases, gout may cause inflammation of the elbows and hand wrists. Skin and soft tissue such as tendons and muscles can also be affected by the disease, losing their flexibility and elasticity.

Article Body:
Gout is known to be a rheumatoid form of arthritis that causes inflammation, intense pain, discomfort and swelling of the affected regions. Gout mainly tends to affect the joints, especially those of the lower body limbs, such as toes, heels, ankles, knees. In some cases, gout may cause inflammation of the elbows and hand wrists. Skin and soft tissue such as tendons and muscles can also be affected by the disease, losing their flexibility and elasticity.

The main cause of gout is the clustering of uric acid crystals in the arteries, obstructing normal blood flow and causing inflammation. Due to either excessive production of uric acid in the body or renal insufficiency (sometimes the kidneys are unable to eliminate the surplus of uric acid), uric acid accumulates, crystallizes and deposits in different body regions. Food intake plays a major role in the development of gout. Some foods are rich in fat and purine, a substance that is synthesized by the organism into uric acid and therefore may aggravate the symptoms of gout. Smoking and the consumption of alcohol should be considerably reduced when suffering from gout, as these factors affect the secretion of uric acid, contributing to its accumulation within the body.

People who suffer from gout may experience sudden, unexpected pain episodes that tend to reoccur periodically. This may be a first sign of chronic gout. The pain is sometimes more intense during the night in the case of some people who suffer from gout. Another form of gout, referred to as pseudogout, occurs due to the accumulation of crystallized calcium in the joints, instead of uric acid.

Gout is more likely to be developed by men (almost 90 percent of people diagnosed with gout are male), usually after the age of 40. In some cases, women at menopause can be affected by the disease too. Gout rarely occurs to children and young adults.

Gout is considered to have a pronounced hereditary character. Research results indicate that some people who suffer from gout have a family history of the disease.

Obesity is another important factor that leads to the development of gout. The organisms of overweight people tend to produce more uric acid. Obesity also increases the risks of injury at the level of the joints.

Other factors that may facilitate the development of gout are prolonged treatments with diuretics, previous surgeries, the presence of certain diseases that affect blood circulation or extreme medical treatments such as chemotherapy.

It is very important to control gout through the means of an appropriate diet. It is best to keep away from cigarettes and alcohol, as these factors are known to aggravate the disease. Drink plenty of water to facilitate the elimination of excessive uric acid (you should drink around 2 liters of water a day). Lastly, try to avoid a sedentary lifestyle; exercise regularly to keep your body in good shape.

Factors that May Contribute to Decreased Testosterone Levels

Word Count:
501

Summary:
The article talks about the importance of testosterone in one's sexual and overall health. The production of this hormone can be hampered by factors like high blood pressure, smoking, and excessive weight and obesity. Engaging in healthy lifestyles and partaking in nutritious diets may promote optimum levels of testosterone.

Keywords:
sexual health problem

Article Body:
Testosterone is the hormone that makes men—men. Testosterone is considered as the most essential of all sex hormones. It is a steroidal hormone that is primarily secreted by the testes in males and in ovaries in females. Females also have small amounts of this hormone in their system because it is a precursor to estrogen. In men, it is responsible for bone and muscle development. As stated, testosterone is essential in male sexual health because it stimulates spermatogenesis and influences the development of male secondary characteristics like facial hair and deep voices. This hormone is also responsible for mental sharpness and sex drive. Some medical reports suggest that testosterone is important in the development of self-confidence and social success.

Other functions and roles of testosterone may include the following:

Promotes muscle strength and endurance
Increases libido
Increases bone density
Decreased fat in tissues
Promote overall health and well being.
Overproduction of testosterone in males may lead to aggressive puberty in men and amenorrhea (absence of menstrual period) in women. Recent medical studies suggest that testosterone levels in the United States are lower today than they were several years ago. Some of the possible factors that are responsible for this decline are explained in this article.

Excess weight and obesity

One possible explanation for testosterone decline is: men are more overweight than ever. Medical studies suggest that obesity is a significant predictor of low testosterone. These studies add that gaining ten percent in one's appropriate Body Mass Index (BMI) may lead to decreased testosterone levels by about ten percent. Because of this, fat or over weight individuals may have up to 25 percent less total testosterone than their fit counterparts.

Smoking

Cigarette smoking may damage the cells in the testes—male reproductive organs located in the scrotum which produces sperm and testosterone. Smoking-induced damage may hamper testosterone production and cause problems in male sexual health. It may also interfere with the body's efficiency and effectiveness in building muscles.

High blood pressure

In the long run, high blood pressure may damage the lining of the blood vessels and cause atherosclerosis, or hardening of the blood vessels. Because of this development, less blood which carries oxygen and nutrients flow to the penis. For a lot of men, decreased blood flow may cause difficulties in achieving and maintaining erections. High blood pressure may also interfere with ejaculation and reduce libido. Many medications used to treat high blood pressure may also bring similar adverse effects.

Making lifestyle changes are essential in maintaining the right testosterone levels and overall health. A man's testosterone levels will have a decline once he reaches the age of 40. But maintaining a healthy lifestyle and nutritious diets may slowdown this decline and maintain optimum sexual health. If these things fail there are medical methods available that may be used to improve one's testosterone levels. Undergoing testosterone replacement therapy and using testosterone supplements may improve one's testosterone levels. Individuals who want to engage in these methods should seek the approval of medical professionals.

article:

(NC)-Did you know that more than 20 percent of school-age children suffer from allergies. A condition that, if not diagnosed properly, can interfere with a child's ability to concentrate.
In fact, according to the U.S. National Institutes of Health, allergies account for 2 million missed school days each year, and on any given day more than 10,000 children are absent from school due to troublesome allergy symptoms. In Canada, this represents approximately 200,000 missed school days and more than 1,000 children missing school on any given day because of allergies. Allergies can have a significant impact on a child's quality of life.
Fortunately, the allergy experts at Claritin, the leader in the treatment of seasonal and perennial allergies, have developed appropriate information to help parents determine whether a child suffers from allergies.
For instance, if one parent has allergies, chances are one in three that a child will have an allergy, and if both parents have allergies the chance jumps to seven in 10.
By providing parents with the appropriate information, they will be better equipped to consult with their healthcare provider and set up an appropriate system to help avoid a child's allergy triggers.
It can be hard for parents to distinguish between colds and allergies without help, because many symptoms of each are similar.
The casual misdiagnosis that "it's just a cold" can result in unnecessary suffering for the child with allergies. Here are some common allergy symptoms parents should look for:

A runny or stuffy nose and constant sneezing
Breathing through the mouth or snoring, due to a stuffy nose
Itchy nose, eyes, or skin
Rubbing the nose upward with the palm of the hand (also known as the "allergy salute")
Watery eyes or dark circles under the eyes
Headaches, earaches, or hearing problems
Changes in behavior; children may be irritable or hyperactive

Once a physician has determined that a child has allergies, parents should know there are treatment options available to ease the symptoms including avoidance of allergy triggers, allergy shots, and/or medications. One medication in particular, Claritin Syrup is learning friendly for children. It is the only non-sedating antihistamine for children to treat both seasonal and year-round allergies without causing drowsiness.

Colored Contact Lenses are the fashion statement of the day. They are available in shades of green, blue, and sometimes lavender. Colored contacts need to be matched to your skin tone for best results.
There are four main types of colored contacts, although there is little difference them.  Visibility tint lenses have a slight tint that will help you locate the lens when it is in your eye easily. This is particularly helpful if the lens should slip out of place.
Enhancement lenses have an obvious tint to change the eye color of the wearer. Change is generally more effective for people with light colored eyes such as blue, hazel, or green.  These lenses are a great way to initiate subtle changes to your eye color.
Opaque color tint lenses are generally used for those who have dark  colored eyes such as such as brown eyes. Opaque color tint contacts have very distinct and very obvious color pattern designs. They look like real irises. The drawback to these lenses is that they affect the vision of individuals with large pupils because the opaqueness can block parts of the field of vision.
Light filter lenses are relatively new in the marketplace. These lenses are great for tennis players and golfers because they enhance colors. The changes are coming from the lenses. An example would be a golfer who loses a ball in the grass might ordinarily ‘miss’ the ball and deem it lost or with the enhancement of light filter lenses might be able to find it because the white will be whiter and the green greener thus making the ball stand out more. The green-yellow of a tennis ball is enhance thus improving its visibility and increasing the chances of it being seen even in bright sunlight.
The light filtering lenses could be disposable or not. They are generally soft lenses and the eyes tend to adjust to them easily. Within this type of lenses there are many options. Talk to your eye care professional-they will help you figure out the best contacts for you.
Though these lenses are safe you should contact your eye care professional especially if you have problems like itching or redness in the eye or any uncomfortable feelings. You need to take care of the lenses in a way similar to how the original lenses were taken care of. They are reasonably priced and can be purchased online with a prescription of course. There are an abundance of deals and discounts available.

There is a chronic shortage of most organs needed for transplant in Canada. More than 3,500 Canadians are currently awaiting organ transplants.
In Canada, up to 30 per cent of people in need of a solid organ transplant die on the waiting list.
Only one per cent of all deaths in Canada, in any year, are suitable for possible organ donation.
Demand for transplants is increasing while the number of organ donors remains unchanged.
The spread of Hepatitis-C will increase the need for liver transplants five-fold by 2008. Up to 30 per cent of Hepatitis-C cases damage the liver seriously enough to prove fatal.
Survival rates of transplant patients continue to improve and a majority of recipients live healthy and productive lives.
Transplants are cost-effective. For those with kidney disease, the average cost of dialysis treatment is $50,000 a year. By comparison, the one-time cost of a kidney transplant in BC is approximately $20,000, with an additional yearly cost of about $6,000 for anti-rejection medications.

Facts On Alabama Health Insurance

When it comes to health insurance, Alabama doesn’t really come to mind. The more popular association to Alabama, perhaps, is a Hollywood movie or two with the word “Alabama” in the title (and it does sound sweet). But here’s one thing you should know about Alabama: it’s one state that is very particular about the healthcare of its citizens. In fact, the state governor even proposed to legislate tax breaks to small-time businesses that offer healthcare benefits to employees.

But Alabama is not really that much different from all the other states in the United States, and there are some facts that may be or less true for others.

    * Prices are the same, always

It doesn’t matter if you’re getting your healthcare plan from the healthcare provider head office or from your insurance agent. Prices across health insurance plans (specific to healthcare providers) remain the same. Under certain law, insurance providers are not allowed to sell programs at prices much than the price offered by agents.

    * Don’t take it personally if your pre-existing condition is not covered

Like anywhere in the United States, health care insurance providers are not prohibited from excluding pre-existing conditions from their coverage. But of course, you can always qualify for guaranteed issue health insurance if you meet certain criteria.

    * Employment at bigger companies is better

If you want to save on health insurance costs, then choose to be employed at a company with 25 or more employees. Under the Health Maintenance Organization Act of 1973, companies with 25 or more people on their payroll are required to offer healthcare benefits to their employees.

    * More options for dental healthcare plans

For dental healthcare, there are actually three kinds of plans that you can choose from: the traditional dental HMO plans, dental PPO plans, and dental discount plans. These are available throughout Alabama.

HMO and PPO plans are the real insurance plans: you pay the premiums and then the insurance company pays for the dental healthcare provider. Dental discount plans are not insurance plans, you pay an annual fee so you can benefit from dental services at discounted rates (typically 50% to 60% of professional fees). The rest of the billed amount you will have to pay from out of your own pocket.

    * There are many healthcare providers

When it comes to healthcare plans, keep in mind that there are many healthcare providers and that the Internet has made it all possible for practically anyone and everyone to get health insurance quotes in minutes. When choosing a healthcare plan, it’s best to keep these things in mind:

- Your Actual Real-life Needs (Are you single or trying to raise a family? Do you need to go to a doctor often?)

- What You Want (Will any doctor do for you? Do you prefer to keep your doctor?)

- Your Budget (How much can you set aside to pay for monthly premiums?)

The state of Alabama health insurance is most likely true elsewhere in the United States. So if you’re reading this article from New Jersey, you can very well take those truths stated above like they were some pieces of good advice.

Facts on Opalescence Teeth Whitening Systems and why they are so popular

Facts on Opalescence Teeth Whitening System

People like their pearly whites to be both pearly and white. It sounds lame but it is true. People love to take care of their teeth. One might even say that people are particularly vain concerning their teeth. This is because when meeting people, the teeth are definitely the first thing to get noticed. We smile in order to show people a glimpse of our soul. There are people who depend on their smiles for their living. This is the reason behind the success of such products as the Opalescence teeth whitening system.

The Opalescence teeth whitening system lets people take the system home and do the whitening themselves. This might seem like unnecessary work for some people, but for others, it means convenience. People today do not have the time to go to the dentist for teeth whitening. Some just choose to get a tan instead of having their teeth whitened. This is the reason why the Opalescence teeth whitening system is so sought after. Convenience is one of the things that people look for today.

How does the Opalescence teeth whitening system work? First of all, you have to know that the Opalescence teeth whitening system is a professional-grade bleaching system. This means that it can whiten your teeth faster than other over the counter teeth whitening systems. This is because of the fact that most over the counter teeth whitening systems contain only about 3 to 10 percent hydrogen peroxide. However, the Opalescence teeth whitening system has a 38 percent concentration of hydrogen peroxide.

While most teeth whitening systems today require the use of a bleaching light in order to “activate” the product, the Opalescence teeth whitening system is the first product which lists the use of the light as “optional”. People like this because it is often the case that the cost of the bleaching light is undeniably higher than the cost of the actual product. Another interesting fact about this is that lately, many dentists are finding out that the “studies” regarding the use of bleaching lights rarely do prove that the light is needed to activate the hydrogen peroxide.

Although you can take the Opalescence teeth whitening system home, it is still advisable that you get a professional to whiten your teeth. This is because the Opalescence teeth whitening system works best when in the hands of a professional. About 90 minutes is required from preparation to the actual procedure. Think of it: just one and a half hours for you to have whiter teeth!

Besides giving you whiter teeth, the opalescence teeth whitening system also gives you other benefits. While some teeth bleaching systems may give you sensitive teeth and thus, forever deny you the pleasure of eating ice cream, the opalescence teeth whitening system actually minimizes sensitivity. This means that you do not have to sacrifice the pleasure of eating certain foods in order to have a great smile.

Another complaint that people have with common bleaching agents is the fact that these often cause teeth to become vulnerable to cavities. However, the opalescence teeth whitening system actually strengthens the enamel, making it harder and decreases the likelihood of cavities.

The opalescence teeth whitening system can give great benefits to whoever uses the product. You get whiter teeth in a way that’s convenient and painless. So what are you waiting for?

Facts on Unexpected Birth Control

Summary:
This article provides several unknown facts about birth control pills. It includes how birth control pills affect weight, and how pill type affects each individual. By knowing more information about such pills, less complications/side effects can occur.

Keywords:
birth control facts

Article Body:
We just don't know how much a woman knows about the little white pill that they take everyday. Birth control pills are known to improve the quality of a woman's skin. It is also known to reduce the risk of ovarian cancer. Birth control pills are indeed multi-functional, but there are still some information that only a few, if not many, women know. Among the least known birth control facts include the findings that the efficacy of birth control pills is reduced depending on a woman's body weight.

Research has shown that birth control pills may not be as effective for those women who are considered overweight. On a study published in Obstetrics and Gynecology, those women who take their birth control pill regularly without a miss, but has a BMI or Body Mass Index of higher than 27.3. have a higher risk of becoming pregnant.  However, researchers have yet to come up with a final, conclusive evidence about the connections between pregnancy, body weight, and birth control pills.

Definitely, there is no one single pill that is supposed to be the answer to all birth control questions and needs of women, or couples, for that matter.  Birth control pills have been reformulated several times since it was approved during the 1960's.  There have been more than 40 types of birth control pills available throughout the United States, and in most parts of the globe. Researchers began to realize the fact that most women did not need to take the maximum dosage for such pills, in order to prevent pregnancy. In line with this, birth control pills today are now sold with a much lower amount or level of hormones than birth control pills sold twenty to thirty years ago.

There are two kinds of pills: the combination (mixed estrogen and progestin) and progestin-only (often dubbed as the mini pill). Women who breastfeed should not take the combination pill since estrogen can reduce milk production. Since the progestin-only pill contains no estrogen, this is a good choice for breastfeeding mothers, especially since one can still get pregnant while breastfeeding despite the myth that still persists that breastfeeding women cannot conceive.

Usually, women can safely miss one pill without having to use any back-up birth control method, but missing two can increase the risk of getting pregnant. Playing safe would be the key here, and using a back-up method for the rest of the pack is recommended. It is also a fact that the pill can cause very slight weight gain, but this won't make a woman fat. A few decades ago, when the hormone levels of women were generally higher, taking the pill resulted in an increase of body weight. Different women have different side effects. It is best to shop around for the pill that works for oneself, but try and wait for at least three months before switching, since many side effects dissipate after a few months.

What is low carb?
We’ve all heard about the Atkins diet either good or bad, low carb eating is a weight loss program popularized by diet plans like Atkins, The Zone and South Beach Diet to name a few.
They all have the same basic premise, lower carbs eating will result in weight loss and help to make you healthier. Some studies have even found that eating from low carbohydrate menus may actually help to raise your good cholesterol.
If you decide that a lower carb way of life is for you, you are allowed to eat:

High fat Steak but not the Baked Potato
Hamburger but not the Bun
Hot Dog but not the Fries

Find the right low carb diet that suits you
Which is best for you? As we already said there are several diets that utilize low carbohydrate foods as the base of their plan. Getting an understanding of low carb diet plans and their various approaches will help you choose the diet that best fits your tastes and meal schedule. Remember all the popular lower carbohydrate diets are similar but have subtle differences.
What’s the difference?
Eating the low carb way can vary from one plan to another, for instance the South Beach diet is much more liberal about adding fruits
During the first two weeks of a low carb diet like Atkins you are limited to a very low carbohydrate intake.
The Zone diet works by balancing protein, carb, and fat in every meal and snack. So if you prefer several small meals throughout the day, this may be the low carb diet for you.
There can be dramatic weight loss during this period. After the introductory , or induction phase you can gradually add some higher carb foods to your menu.
How to I avoid eating high carb foods
Eating out while on a low carb diet is not as difficult as you may imagine. Order the entrée only and if it comes with a forbidden carb rich food, ask the waiter to remove it before serving.
Also request that the breadbasket not even be brought to the table, thus avoiding another tempting higher carb food item. Don’t eat the crackers with the soup, and only use oil and vinegar dressing on your salad. Lower carb eating can be delicious, easy and healthful.

FICTION: Colorectal cancer is highly preventable. Some preventative measures include eating a diet rich in fruits and vegetables and low in fat, regular exercise, moderate alcohol consumption, and no smoking. There really are no treatment options for colorectal cancer.
FICTION: Treatment will depend on the type, grade and stage of the cancer. Management of the disease may include surgery and radiation in the earlier stages of the disease, and chemotherapy options such as Camptosar®, Xeloda® or 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) are generally used in the later stages of the disease when the cancer has spread to other areas of the body.

Fact: Smoking Is Taking Minutes Off Your Life

Word Count:
636

Summary:
Cigarette smoking is absolutely damaging to the human body. The number of reasons why people should quit smoking more than outweighs the number of excuses for quitting. Yet, it isn't easy to quit. But unless one starts with determination, nothing can be accomplished.

Keywords:
cigarette smoking

Article Body:
When you see a TV commercial for a brand of cigarette, you would see successful, professional men and gorgeous women enjoying their life to the hilt. They're good-looking, hip and glamorous. Or at least, that's what the advertisers would like to project smokers on screen.
But the truth of the matter remains. Cigarette smoking is absolutely damaging to the human body. There is nothing hip and glamorous with deep facial wrinkles. Smoking accelerates the normal aging process of your skin. These skin changes may be irreversible and may occur even after only ten years of smoking. Cigarette smoking causes the narrowing of blood vessels in the outermost layers of your skin. When blood flow to your skin is impaired, it depletes oxygen and important skin nutrients, such as vitamin A. It also damages collagen and elastin, special fibers that give your skin its strength and elasticity, resulting in sagging skin and premature wrinkles.
The nicotine substance in cigarettes does not only make your teeth yellow through the years, but it is a poison that produces physical and mood-altering effects in your brain that may cause nicotine dependence or addiction, and may lead to a host of heart and lung ailments.
Cigarette smoking has toxic effects on most systems and tissues in the body that it contributes to the thinning of bones, also known as osteoporosis, which can lead to a stooped posture and broken bones. Studies reveal that women who smoke tend to menopause at a younger age than non-smokers.
Some people are not keen to give up cigarette smoking due to a variety of reasons, one of which is the notion that quitting may lead to weight gain. However, planning a healthy diet and increasing your activity level will help keep off the unwanted pounds. Though some people indeed gain no more than ten pounds after quitting smoking, there are medications to help assist in delaying or suppressing the weight gain.
While there are fewer women who smoke than men, women share a much larger burden of smoking-related diseases. Cigarette smoking can affect a woman's chances of getting pregnant as it is a major cause of infertility. There is a high risk of miscarriage and complications during pregnancy.

Some people believe that it won't hurt to smoke one stick a day, especially the “light” brands. Unfortunately, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, these so-called “light” cigarettes have the same ingredients as regular cigarettes, including lead, ammonia, benzene, DDT, butane gas, carbon monoxide, arsenic, and polonium 210.
And it doesn't matter how many sticks you puff in a day. Every cigarette you smoke takes minutes off your life and keeps you in a nicotine-addicted state. In a matter of eight seconds, nicotine reaches the brain after someone inhales tobacco smoke. It can also enter the bloodstream through the mucous membranes that line the mouth when tobacco is chewed as most elderly people do. In the case of snuff users, the potentially poisonous substance passes through the nose. Moreover, even non-smokers can also get hurt as it can enter even through the skin. Think about the people around you who are suffering from asthma, heart disease, and allergies who will be harmed by second hand smoke.
Nicotine affects the entire body. It acts directly on the heart to change heart rate and blood pressure, as well as on the nerves that control respiration to change breathing patterns. In high concentrations, nicotine is deadly, as one drop of purified nicotine on the tongue can kill a person. It's so lethal that it has been used as a pesticide for centuries.
The number of reasons why people should quit smoking more than outweighs the number of excuses for quitting cigarette smoking. Yet, it isn't easy to quit. But unless one starts with determination, nothing can be accomplished.

Stretch marks are one of the most common skin conditions. Most treatment methods for stretch marks attempt to eliminate the condition altogether. In most cases, these products only fade stretch marks. This means that it will undoubtedly take some time for you to experience results. The good news is that some products are able to fade stretch marks that are old and more set into the skin. Instead of actually treating the skin, these products typically work to change the consistency of the stretch marks. To fade stretch marks, you may want to try one of the two products that claim to fade stretch marks that are both new and old.
Scarguard ScarCare works by providing a protective covering for the stretch marks so that they can heal on their own. The product does, however, contain ingredients that are beneficial for diminishing stretch marks. Vitamin E and silicone are two ingredients in ScarCare that will help fade stretch marks. You apply the product directly to your stretch marks twice each day. You should start to notice an improvement in your stretch marks in less than six months. If you are pregnant, you need to obtain approval from your doctor before using the product.
Scarguard Lightener is another stretch mark treatment product manufactured by Scarguard. This product fades stretch marks by lightening the skin. The product contains 2% hydroquinone, a skin-lightening chemical. If you choose to go with this product you need to also wear a sunscreen. You may experience a darkening of your skin if you apply the product to your skin and spend time in the sun without any sun protection. This product, like ScarCare costs $64.99. The cost is more than the average stretch mark treatment, but then doctors do not endorse the average product for stretch marks. Plastic surgeons use Scarguard products in their practice, so there is a good chance that you will experience success with Scarguard products.

High-Fat, Low-Carbohydrate Diets - Millions of Americans have joined the low-carb craze and started high-fat, low-carb diets such as the Atkins Diet, and the Zone Diet. They are made up of about 60% fat, 10% carbohydrate, and 30% protein. These diets say you can eat high amounts of fat and protein while getting very low amounts of carbohydrates in the form of vegetables. The main premise of the low-carb diet is that a diet low in carbohydrates leads to a reduction in bodyÕs production of insulin. The end result is that fat and protein stores will be used for energy. So you stuff yourself full of unlimited amounts of meat, cheese, and butter, and only eat a small portion of carbohydrates.

People who start the diet usually lose a great amount of weight, but itÕs not permanent weight loss. Instead of burning fat, the lose water and precious muscle tissue. Furthermore, these diets are low in several nutrients and contain excess amounts of cholesterol and saturated fats, substances that increase the risk of heart disease. Plus, regardless of what they claim, the enormous amounts of protein put a strain on your kidneys.

Moderate Fat Diets - Next, there are the moderate fat diets. Moderate fat diets include diets like Weight Watchers, the USDA Food Guide Pyramid, and Jenny Craig. These diets are made up of about 25% fat, 60% carbohydrate, and 15% protein. They encourage the intake of whole grains, fruits, vegetables, and essential fatty acids found in foods like olive oil and salmon. These diets are usually nutritionally balanced if the dieter eats a variety of foods from all categories. For example, Weight Watchers operates on a point system where foods get a number of points based on calorie, fiber, and fat content. Dieters get a specific amount of points they can use for the day. While itÕs not encouraged, they may choose to spend most of their points on carbohydrates instead of balancing it out. This could lead to deficiencies in nutrients such as calcium, iron, and zinc. However, if followed properly, these diets are probably the most successful for losing weight and keeping it off.

Low and Very Low-Fat Diets - Finally, you have your low-fat and very low-fat diets. Diets in this category include the Dr. Dean OrnishÕs Diet and the Pritkin Plan, among others. They are made up of about 13% fat, 70% carbohydrates, and 16% protein. These diets are mostly vegetarian diets and donÕt recommend eating a lot of meat. Like the low-carb diets, you can eat unlimited amounts of certain foods. Because you canÕt eat a lot of meat, these diets are deficient in zinc, vitamin B12, and essential fatty acids. Also, it is so restrictive that people find a hard time staying on it for life and end up gaining their weight back.

Fad diets are well known for their promise of bringing some instant weight loss.  However, while these diets may help you lose weight quick, they may also create health issues.
Here is some helpful fad diet advice:
1.  It’s not recommended to do such a diet for more then 3 to 7 days, because they are unbalanced and are not meant to be a permanent way of eating.
2.  While keeping the fad diet, do not overexert yourself, even if you feel fine during that time; the fad diet can become stressful on your body and overexerting can result in some major health issues.
3.  You can often get very hungry at times, try drinking water to help manage hunger pains
4.  After finishing the fad diet, don’t start celebrating the end of dieting with food, otherwise all that effort will be in vain. Instead, focus on a balanced diet once you are done with the fad diet.
However, wouldn’t it make much more sense to focus on a long-term balanced diet and weight loss plan rather than risk your health?
Nutrition experts advise to permanently adopt healthy eating, rather than going on crash diets in order to loose weight quickly.  Eating a balanced diet that consists of a wide variety of foods can make all the difference and it is the first principle of good and healthy nutrition. After a few weeks of fad diets, that usually consists of only one main food or type of food, you may find yourself developing nutritional deficiencies because no “one” food has all the ingredients the body needs.  In other words, there are no “super-foods” that you should “only” eat.
Another problem with fad dieting is that they violate a very important principle of nutrition…eating must be enjoyable. Fad diets tend to be so boring that almost no one can stay on them for too long without enormous amounts of sacrifices. Rather than going on a fad diet, you should consider that a daily 30 minute walk makes more sense than almost any  fad diet. This helps you maintain your weight loss over a long period of time, and when combined with a good and healthy diet, will speed up the weight loss process.
The simple fact is the only way to lose weight and still be healthy is to eat less and maintain daily physical activity. With fresh fruits and vegetables, fat-free or low-fat dairy, broiled meat, no fried food, and some daily physical exercise, you will find out that losing weight is pretty easy and best of all is healthy.
Fad diets are everywhere.  Anyone can try them, but remember, fad diets are usually made for the short-run, they are not designed to become a way of life, and that’s why you should think twice before continuing, or even starting a fad diet.

When you’re trying to lose weight, there are bookshelves, websites and TV shows full of people trying to sell you a dream. They say that you can lose weight quickly and easily, without any hard work, because of their new discovery. If a few people try it and it works for them, the press report it, and before anyone’s had time to investigate the health implications or the long-term effects, we’ve got a fad diet on our hands.

Fad diets, basically, are diets that attempt to help you lose weight by making drastic changes to what you eat or some other element of your lifestyle, often telling you to only eat one thing or to avoid certain kinds of food completely. Now, I’m not saying that they can’t help you lose weight, as many of them can – people on Atkins-like diets, for example, really do lose weight very quickly. But what people don’t think about is the long-term.

So you’ve lost all those pounds on a fad diet, great. What next? You have a choice: either go back to your normal diet, or keep eating in a completely crazy way. If you don’t want to keep on eating lettuce (or whatever) for the rest of your life, then you’re stuck, and you’ll just have to go back to your bad old ways – and a few months down the line, all those pounds have come back, and you go on the next fad diet. This is known as yo-yo dieting, and is even unhealthier than just being fat, as it increases your risk of heart disease and all sorts of other conditions besides.

In the end, if you want to lose weight, you should work out a diet that works for you – it doesn’t have to completely traditional; as long as it’s something you can stick to for the rest of your life.

In this age being ignorant is like committing a crime. With so much of knowledge around you, following a trend blindly doesn't confirm the fact that you are intelligent. But the catch here is, GO BY RIGHT KNOWLEDGE. No doubt, internet is flooded with the wrong knowledge and myths that leads you nowhere, but it isn't hard enough to figure out the pearl in the ocean. Every now and then, we see some supplements or pills making tall claims which they down the line do not seem to validate. We will soon establish as we go on reading this article that there is absolutely no substitute for eating healthy and sweating out.
In US, where weight loss has been a part of national consciousness for three decades, several studies have been done to evaluate the effectiveness of various weight loss aids. The major reason why most of these aids escape regulation is because they are branded as "food supplements" to escape the Drugs and Cosmetics Act that regulates the sale of medicine. Here are some findings:-
1) Starch Blockers: One of the most stupid ways to lose weight, they claimed to block the digestion of starch. Not only is the claim unproven but the users have complained of diarrhea, vomiting, nausea and stomach pains.
2) Glucomannan: It also failed on the FDA's yardstick. It promised to reduce your appetite by filling up your stomach but there seem to be no evidence to support it. Glucomannan is derived from the root of a japanese plant name konjac.
3) Spirulina: It is a species of blue-green algae containing some essential nutrients and is pretty safe but again, its effectiveness is still questionable.
4) Magnetic Diet Pills: The US federal trade commission has brought legal action against marketers of these pills. These pills contain a fibre that is been considered to act like a fat-magnet which consumes up to five times its weight in dietary fat. Sorry, it failed miserably!
5) Weight Loss Shakes: MAY BE an answer for short-term weight loss but users have gained weight immediately once they stop using these shakes. These shakes are diet drinks powdered formulas and are substituted for meals. Not only this way to lose weight in unhealthy but also short-term.
6) Bulking Agents: These fibre and gum products promises to control appetite be absorbing liquid and swelling in stomach, thus reducing hunger. But the fact is these bulking agents are indigestible. They can be harmful to the body causing obstructions in the intestines, stomach or esophagus.

Faking Weight Loss

This article talks about different methods to attain weight loss, with focus on the socalled Kimkins Diet – a fad that later turned out to be a fake, medically unsound eating plan.  The article also discusses the risks involved in following fad diets and other unproven fast weight loss programs.

Keywords:
anorexia, diet, overweight and obese, weight loss pills, hair loss

Article Body:
The number of overweight and obese people has continually risen in the United States year after year. And every year or so, a new low-carb diet comes out, or at least, a great new way to shed those stubborn pounds. From the South Beach Diet to the Mediterranean Diet, these new methods of weight loss has increased their popularity among people who want to lose weight. A variety of weight loss pills are on the market that promises to vaporize the fat without any effort on the part of the dieter. These weight loss pills are now widely available in drugstores, supermarkets, and health food stores nationwide. Even fad exercise videos are now everywhere, coming out all the time featuring a new trainer with a headset, an attitude, and a DVD to sell.

Among the plethora of popular diets, one diet plan may be taking weight control to the extreme.   Kimkins Diet was introduced in 2007 throughout different forms in media, but it is apparently the original 1972 version of the Atkins Diet. Interest for this diet has begun to circulate in the past few years around a dietary regiment that can shed a pound a day or even more. This particular diet, which is a low carbohydrate, low calories, and low protein—is seen by many to be nothing but anorexia in disguise. According to the Kimkins Diet, it compares itself to other diets such as Atkins and South Beach, saying that these diets make long-term weight loss extremely frustrating. It does not meddle with fiber and sugar alcohol subtraction in order to quickly shed excess pounds. This diet is specifically helpful for those with mobility problems due to morbid obesity or diabetics who do not wish to be tied to their medications, as seen in cases of people classified as Type-2 diabetics.

Kimkins, as a weight loss program, demands near starvation. A dieter using this plan is not supposed to  eat more than 500 calories a day, or 20 kilocarbs.  The dieter must also skip on as many fatty amino acids and fibers as possible. This diet can end up turning the body against itself to gain the necessary proteins, so body tissue and muscle may be lost instead of the fat. The person who developed the plan,  Heidi Diaz, went on for a time with the online alias 'Kimmer' to hide her identity. The controversies surrounding her diet are simple. Kimmer has banned paying members from accessing her web page simply because they do not agree with her advice. She has continued to cite a number of adherents to her diet plan who did eat below the recommended cap of 500 calories per day, making her seem more like an eating disorder coach than a dietary professional.

Some experts have come out with warnings about the possible health risks associated with Kimkins Diet including hair loss, heart palpitations and even joint pain. After a number of dieters who followed Kimkins plan went ill, Heidi Diaz was ordered to a California court yesterday. There may be a class action lawsuit taken against her for the detrimental and uneducated medical advice that has harmed many people. A separate investigation is pending for fraud and false advertising. Considering how morbidly obese Heidi Diaz appeared to be in court, (contrary to her ads and  personal testimonies), it's no wonder she wanted her identity kept secret for so long.

Anyone should be aware of these diets that does not require exercise. Kimkins continues to be denounced by professionals as an unhealthy, fake, and dangerous alternative to healthy meals and good work outs. Weight loss is never an easy task and it takes dedication to lead a person to proper weight loss.

article:

A receding hairline is the most obvious sign of aging, being on the most prominent location. It is like falling leaves when autumn comes. That’s why most of the middle and advanced aged people suffer from thinning hair. And, to their constant chagrin, most male suffer from this misfortune.
Caring for your hair doesn’t stop with washing and shampooing it. You have to pay equal attention to it in the same manner as you pay to other parts of your body. The hair needs nourishment just like the rest of your system to keep them in place and keep them from moving to your bathroom shower drain.
In your campaign for a healthier body most of the time the hair is not included. You work out every inch of your body, but not the hair. There are no exercises for it anyway, you might think. But decades ago, Sanford Bennett, became a celebrity for experiments that led to his physical rejuvenation at 70. Besides all the exercises he devised to make his face younger and his bodily muscles more robust, he also devised an exercise for a healthier and stronger scalp that could trigger the thicker growth of the hair. To Bennett, the scalp, just like any other part of the body if exercised, would increase in strength and elasticity. This is because there are microscopic glands and muscles in the scalp. The law that applies in exercising the major muscles of the body also applies to those.
So how does it go? Alternately pull your hair in all directions and massage the scalp with the pads of your fingers while you lie in bed. This will improve the blood circulation and eventually feed the roots of the hair with the nutrients it needed. It also exercises the muscles in the scalp making the muscles stronger, which will logically hold the hair more strongly. And since the blood is pumped through the microscopic glands and muscles in the scalp, they are sure to increase in size, strength and elasticity. This naturally results in much fewer hair falling and healthier-looking hair.
One of the best refreshers for the hair ad the scalp is the alternate washing of hot and cold water. It also accelerates the blood circulation there. Wash the hair first with hot water, as hot as you can bear it. Then follow up with very cold water (but without using ice). Applying hot and cold towels alternately can be a good substitute. This procedure should be repeated at least five or six times.

It's that time of year again. You see it and you feel it. The itchy and watery eyes, the runny nose, the sneezing, a bit of a tight feeling in your chest. It's allergy season - again!

In the springtime we deal with the trees coming into bloom. This time of year the allergy culprit is ragweed. Ragweed is a weed that pollinates in late summer and fall. It's been a very hot and dry August, perfect weather conditions for ragweed to flourish. The ragweed season lasts up to eight weeks and generally peaks in mid September.

75% of Americans who suffer from allergies are allergic to ragweed. Some people who suffer with a ragweed allergy may also find themselves allergic to bananas or cantaloups.

There is no cure for ragweed allergies. The best way to lessen symptoms of ragweed allergies, as with any allergy, is to avoid contact with the allergen. However, this can be difficult as ragweed pollen is in the air we must breath. It's not as easy as avoiding your friend's cat.

Most medical professionals suggest an over the counter decongestant or antihistamine to treat the symptoms associated with seasonal allergies.

However, if over the counter medications do not provide enough relief allergy shots, or what is called immunotherapy would be in order. A skin patch test would be performed to determine the exact allergens causing problems and serum would be created with small amounts of those allergens. Regular shots would be given. Most immunotherapy treatments last up to two years before maximum benefit is achieved.

In some severe cases people who also have asthma find their asthma is made worse by exposure to ragweed pollen. It has been found that some asthma suffers benefit from receiving immunotherapy and that over time this therapy can result in less frequent and less severe asthma attacks.

Familiarizing With the Types of Birth Control Pills

Word Count:

Summary:
Millions of women prefer to use birth control pills as their form of birth control, for these oral contraceptions are highly regarded for their satisfactory efficiency rate, convenience, as well as health benefits. To better understand how pills work, women should first familiarize themselves with the different types of birth control pills. In line with this, the author enumerates and expounds the three types of birth control pills for reference.

Keywords:
types of birth control pills

Article Body:
In the United States alone, more than 15 million women are using contraceptive pills as their form of  birth control method. The pills become so popular among sexually active young and adult females as these oral contraceptives are proven to be the most effective, the most convenient, the safest, and one of  the cheapest forms of birth control method.

For almost 50 years now since the United States Food and Drug Administration has approved the usage of birth control pills, American women now have wide variations of oral contraceptive brands to choose from.

The different product variations of birth control pills available today have low dosage requirements compared to the oral contraceptives used by women before. Also, almost all birth control products featured today offer health benefits aside from their main purpose of preventing or delaying pregnancy. These are the reasons why many opt to use oral contraceptive as an efficient form of birth control method.

To be able to better understand how oral contraceptive works, one should first familiarize with the different types of birth control pills. The following is a brief rundown on the known forms of birth control pills:

   1. Progestin-only pills (POP)

The progestin-only pills, or the mini-pills, are the oral contraceptives that do not contain estrogen. This type of birth control pill is highly recommended by gynecologists and health practitioners for breastfeeding women. This birth control pill works by expanding a woman's cervical mucus, thus, preventing sperm cells from getting into the uterus.

   2. Combination pills

The combination pills are the oral contraceptives that contain both progestin and estrogen. This type of birth control pill is categorized into three:

      a. Monophasic

In this type of combination pill, 21 active pills of a pack contain both progestin and estrogen. The remaining seven pills do not contain hormones, only placebos, thus, triggering the start of the menstrual cycle. In monophasic combination pill, a woman will only have menstruation once in every three months.

      b. Multiphasic

Multiphasic type of combination oral contraception requires a strict intake schedule. This combination pill contains varying amounts of progestin and estrogen levels. Multiphasic pills are specifically developed to lessen the side effects of birth control pills such as spotting, amenorrhea, as well as bleeding. These unpleasant side effects trigger due to the high level of progestin and estrogen in the body.

      c. Continuous

The continuous type of combination pill has just been recently approved last May 2007. This oral contraceptive is basically a multiphasic pill in a 28-day pack that is generally designed for continuous intake. However, women users should expect bleeding and spotting during the first few months of taking this type of combination birth control pill.

   3. Emergency birth control pills (EBC)

Unlike the two types of birth control pills, EBC pills are not developed to be used as a regular form of birth control pill. These pills are basically intended to prevent conception after an unprotected sexual intercourse or when other forms of birth control used failed. EBC pills are also not meant to cause abortion or miscarriage.

Family dentist facts through the ages

Summary:
Family dentistry through the ages has changed beyond all recognition. Now instead of a piece of string and a door handle we have the ability for totally pain free procedures.

Keywords:

Article Body:
As early as 3000 BC, men have dabbled in dentistry to take care of dental problems they have encountered. The excruciating pain that is associated with cavities and rotting teeth must have prompted them to discover ways to relieve their agonizing and unbearable discomfort. Thus the emergence of early “dentists” must be because of the painful symptoms.

Much evidence point out, like from uncovered relics, artifacts and mummies, some forms of dental surgery or dental prosthetics. From the ancient Egyptians to the Greco-Romans to early Chinese civilizations, dentists have existed to aid the people with their teeth problems.

Dentists have always been associated with pain. No trip to the dentist has ever been a welcome journey. Many people, mostly children, see the voyage to a dentist appointment as a form of torture. The mere sound of the dentist’s drill sends shivers up everybody’s spine and causes a form of an anxiety attack (for some though).

Even with the development of many scientific technologies in dental practice, such as better pain relievers, anesthetics, modern equipment and painless procedures.  In any case, dentists have had a bad reputation which is probably uncalled for.

Learning and knowing more about dentists would make them look less menacing and more interesting. Dentists are here to help us, because having good, strong and healthy teeth not only makes us look better but also spares us from the agony of having to endure the unbearable pain of having cavities.

Here are 10 things you didn’t know about dentists. Some facts show the polls done on their perception and satisfaction of their dentists while some are fun facts that may help you see a different side of dentists.

While dentists have been uncommonly regarded as fear factors here are some facts that prove otherwise:

According to a poll done in 1997 by the Gallup poll, dentists received high marks in being the most trusted profession in the United States of America placing fifth in the overall ranking.

Dentists also get high grades from another Gallup poll done recently in being the line of work that has high degree in interpersonal skills and delivery of quality care (remember the lollipops?).

A high 92% of those polled said that they would recommend them to everyone as stated in another Gallup poll.

Another survey shows that 83% of American adults are very satisfied with the services they get from their dentists. This survey was done by Louis Harris and Associates in an effort to study the American peoples attitude towards dentists.

…. And, dentists have a big rating, 61%, in the ethics poll for honesty and trustworthiness.

For some fun facts about dentists….

The electric chair was invented by a dentist. Hhhmmmm… makes you a wonder a whole lot about the Dentist’s Chair don’t it?

William F. Semple, a dentist from Mount Vernon, OH. was issued the first patent in 1869 for chewing gum.

In the old days when dentures weren’t invented yet, dentists would do a quick surgery in implanting teeth in the mouth of a person. The teeth came from dead people!

Aztec dentists would mix iron fillings, water and navel lint bake and insert it in the cavities to seal it. Not only was relief reported but a development of the sense of direction of a person was felt.

So if you think about it, after reading this and finding out how many generations have already sought people to take care of their teeth problems, dentists might just have the oldest profession in the whole world. What do you think?

Family fitness is fun! So, how do you get your family off the sofa and encourage them to get moving with you? It can be a simple task if you find an exercise program that the entire family can enjoy!
We all know that too many Americans are overweight and even more that don’t follow a regular exercise program. It is up to mom and dad to initiate some movement within their own household. There’s an old saying that the “family that plays together, stays together.” This is the approach you should take to get your family moving! It’s not exercise, it’s time to play!
First, you should pay close attention to what everyone in the family likes to do. For example, if both you and your spouse are tennis fanatics, tennis should definitely be on the exercise agenda. If your son is an avid golfer, you need to learn to swing! If your daughter is a devoted jogger, guess who needs to jog too? Find out what everyone in the family likes to do (and you probably already know) and then do it as a family!
Your family’s fitness is important and the fitness schedule should be something that you will stick with throughout the year with a “plan B” if the weather prohibits the ability to follow through with one of your preferred activities. Make sure that everyone in the family gets to choose an activity to insure overall enthusiasm and participation from everyone! While planning your Family Fitness plan, you need to start planning some major changes within the kitchen and refrigerator as well. It’s a good time to throw out all of the stale chips and make a commitment to replace the unhealthy choices with healthy alternatives!
Vegetables like carrot sticks, celery sticks, and fruits like apples, bananas, seedless grapes, fig newtons as well as air-popped popcorn, graham crackers and pretzels are excellent choices that children and teens will grab without a second thought if you make them available. Fill your fruit bowl, refrigerator, and cabinet with the healthier snacks and watch how your entire family doesn’t even notice a significant difference. While you’re at it, fill the refrigerator with bottled water and a variety of fruit juices. Diet sodas are loaded with sodium so toss them out the door too!
You can make some subtle changes that your family will appreciate you for later in life. Now is the time to make a healthy change for you and your family. Don’t even mention the changes in the kitchen. Your children and teenagers will likely just grab something when they are in search of a snack. If you announce that the “family is going to start eating more nutritious meals and snacks” what kind of appeal does that have to the child who was raised on chicken tenders from Burger King?
Healthy living is maybe the greatest way to care for your family. It starts with you and most likely, your children will continue to do what they learned to do at home once they spread their wings and fly solo. Make sure you provide the healthy start they need to carry with them a lifetime!

Family Health up in Smoke

Article Body:
If you don't want to stop smoking for your own health, you might have an incentive to stop smoking if you learn just how your smoking affects those around your smoke such as your family and other loved ones. What's really worse about second hand smoke than the damage smokers bring on themselves is that so many of the second hand smoke victims are children - those unable to make the decision to avoid the harmful effects of the smoke for themselves. These little folks who depend on your for their health care are the ones most adversely affected because you won't stop smoking.

Second hand smoke is also known as environmental tobacco smoke (ETS). It is a combination of the smoke that comes from the burning end of your cigarette or other tobacco product, which is called the sidestream smoke and the smoke that is exhaled by the smoker, called mainstream smoke. Over 400 chemicals are part of the mix in secondhand smoke. Over 50 of these chemicals are proven or probable as cancer causing agents in humans. The term for these is carcinogens.

Second hand smoke is everywhere - whether you are home in the presence of a smoker, or in the workplace (though this is becoming increasingly uncommon) and in public places such as restaurants, bars, casinos and bowling alleys. While many U.S. states have begin to outlaw public smoking it's generally for restaurants where those under 18 are present. Bars are still prime places for secondhand smoke, as are bowling alleys and casinos.

If you don't stop smoking those who smoke along with you second hand will have an increased lung cancer and heart disease risk. Children will be the ones most negatively affected by this second hand smoke. Kids have lungs that aren't completely developed as yet and because of this they are far more susceptible to secondhand smoke and it's negative ramifications. They are also the ones that have absolutely no control of the environment in which you've placed their health. Children and infants who are exposed to second hand smokes suffer from sudden infant death syndromes (SIDS), bronchitis, pneumonia and asthma far more often than those who have non-smoking parents and adult family members.

In the U.S. alone 3000 people succumb to lung cancer as a result of secondhand smoke, even though are people who never smoked or stopped smoking. Death by coronary heart disease thanks to second hand smoke occur in 35,000 Americans each year.

Children develop asthma as a result of secondhand smoke at the rate of 8000 to 26,000 each year. Bronchitis numbers are even worse - 150,000-300,000 - and these are children younger than 18 months, up to 15,000 of whom will have to be hospitalized. Only 40 percent of those who don't smoke or stop smoking have no evidence of bodily harm due to secondhand smoke.

The most disturbing fact about how your failure to stop smoking effects small children is that the median state figure for children in each state affected by secondhand smoke. The highest percentage is found in Kentucky, where more than a third of children are harmed.

INTRODUCTION
It is my pleasure to introduce to you, a new Diabetes Prevention Education, Public Relations Campaign established under the name Fannie Estelle Hill Grant, started by me, Lyndia Grant-Briggs, after the loss of my mother who succumbed to Type 2 Diabetes on Christmas Day, December 25, 2000.  I noticed a fire burning in the Diabetes health arena, and it is still burning out of control. The diabetes prevention and education public relations campaign was started in an effort, to "Fan the Flames", and put out the fire.
Fannie Grant was 73 years old, a homemaker, who loved her family very much, and she believed in preparing wonderful home-cooked meals for the family.  You name it, and we had it.  We would have desserts any day of the week.  Mama enjoyed cooking, cleaning and washing clothes, and although she raised nine children of her own, she always had room for other needy children.
In our early years, from 1945-1965, Mother was the wife of a sharecropper in North Carolina, but they moved the family to Washington, D.C. in 1965.  So for more than 30 years, Mother Grant, our father and all of us children called the Washington Metropolitan Area home.
Our family learned that Mother had Type 2 Diabetes after a major stroke she had back in 1988-89.  She lived 11-12 years after the diagnosis.  Lyndia and her Sisters, (The Grant Sisters) pledged to begin the educational prevention campaign while they visited with and/or cared for their mother during her last year of life.
After moving back home to North Carolina, Mother Grant enjoyed her latter years in a very peaceful way.  Us children purchased her a new home, took over all of the mortgage payments, and she was happy.  Mother Grant enjoyed living on this wonderful 227-acre farm, near Kinston, North Carolina.  She was one of the heirs to this wonderful farm left to her family by their father, and my grandfather, Floyd Hill.
She enjoyed walking around the farm, following my father, Bishop Benjamin Grant, around the garden as he worked.  She enjoyed shopping with her sisters going to yard sales.  Shopping gave her considerable joy near the end of her life.
Mother suffered numerous strokes, seven to ten to be specific.  During one stoke, she lost the use of her tongue and couldn't speak at all.  Mother Fannie's kidney failed, she was receiving kidney dialysis for the last two years of her life, she had high blood pressure for many years, and both of her legs were amputated above her knees.
The Problem
We wanted to know more about the disease that took our mother in such a brutal fashion.  There was so much pain and suffering prior to her death.  Mother Grant was a Christian, she was an Evangelist who preached the gospel in churches throughout the Washington D.C. Area, and everyone loved her and called her Ma.
Our mother was very special, and as her oldest daughter, I promised to carry out a public awareness campaign, to educate millions of people regarding the causes and preventions of Type 2 Diabetes.  In educating the general public, I feel a lot better, because my mother's living shall not be in vain.  My sisters and I have been blessed over the past 20 years, we've had lots of success in publicizing several major events, we coordinated a major festival, called Georgia Avenue Day in Washington, D.C.  The festival and parade attracted more than 200,000 people, major corporate sponsors and celebrities.  We worked for two Presidential Inaugural Committees, one was for the Republicans, George Herbert Walker Bush and for other for the Democrats, President Bill Clinton, for two D.C. Mayors, Marion Barry and Sharon Pratt Kelly, and three D.C. City Councilmembers, Charlene Drew Jarvis, Frank Smith and Eyde Whittington.  Another major achievement was an appointment that I received as project director by Councilman Frank Smith, to erect the Spirit of Freedom Memorial, a new national African American Civil War Memorial located in Washington, D.C.  This monument pays tribute to 209,145 United States Colored Troops who fought in the American Civil War.
As you can see, Mother Grant passed down some strong self-worth values.  She taught us that we can do anything that we want, and that we can be the best at whatever we choose.  The business of public relations is "in my blood."  There was no way that I could see the devastation caused by Diabetes and understand this disease, and do nothing about it.  I wanted to know "what happened to Mother, how did this happen, could we have done something differently, if only we had known that an improved diet and regular physical exercise could have made a difference."
I know that I've been chosen to get the word out regarding this disease that's burning "out of control" in the African American community.  It has been extremely hard to continue to live without our Mother, but in sharing this information with others, it gives me some relief from my grief.
So, what exactly is Diabetes?  Diabetes mellitus is a group of diseases characterized by high levels of blood glucose. It results from defects in insulin secretion, insulin action, or both. Diabetes can be associated with serious complications and premature death, but people with diabetes can take measures to reduce the likelihood of such, according to recent studies found by the National Institute of Health.  Some researchers believe that African Americans, (Hispanic Americans, Asian Americans, and Pacific Islanders were also included in the study) inherited a "thrifty gene" from their African ancestors. Years ago, this gene enabled Africans, during "feast and famine" cycles, to use food energy more efficiently when food was scarce. Today, with fewer such cycles, the thrifty gene that developed for survival may instead make the person more susceptible to developing type 2 diabetes.
The problem dates back to the beginning of the slave trade, documented as beginning in 1790, and for those enslaved ones, food was still scarce, thus the "thrifty genes" protected them.  If you research the documentations found on record at the National Archives and Records Administration, slaves received rations.  It really doesn't matter what the diets were of African people hundreds of years ago, as they roamed around freely on the African continent, in townships like Johannesburg, Freetown, Rwanda, Sudan, South African and Sierre Leone.  What does matter is the fact that those Africans who managed to survive the slave trade here in America, arrived on the shores very strong. The majority of them worked in the fields from sun-up to sundown, six days per week, and in many cases, seven days/week.  Slaves ate scraps, like hog mauls, chitterlings, pigtails, pig feet, pig ears, and they drank milk from a trough along side other animals.
African people became Americanized, they were no longer in their homeland, so to live, they had to eat whatever was made available to them, they were fed last, after the horses and the pigs had been taken care of, whatever was left was given to those enslaved people -- scraps, left-overs, garbage.  In an effort to create a delicious meal, the women worked at creating recipes that they could all enjoy.  They loved collard greens with fat back meat, and learned to bake sweet potato pies, cleaned chitterlings and made them into a delicacy to be eaten on special occasions.  They made pots of beans seasoned with ham hocks, or pigtails, and they seasoned with pork.
They made home-made biscuits from self-rising, white flour and lard, and they learned to make hush puppies, candied yams, lots of potatoes, and they ate plenty corn bread, so even until this day, African people who became African Americans beginning in the late 1700's, had a very different diet than Euro-Americans.  Even though this wasn't a "good" and "healthy" diet for the slaves, they ate it, they enjoyed it, and they were able to sustain themselves easily.  They worked so very hard in the fields 12-16 hours a day.  But of course, since they had the so-called "thrifty genes" which allowed their bodies to preserve food in an appropriate manner, when food was scarce, seems that was probably a good thing, since the enslaved didn't always have ample food supplies.
There is a bright side to this though, as they worked, they were receiving strenuous daily exercise, which kept them healthy.  It really didn't matter what the slaves ate, because what they ate, in today's standard would have fattened them too, but it didn't, because they burned it off every day out in the fields working.  It was a vicious cycle. They ate, and they worked off the carbohydrates.  They ate and they worked off more carbohydrates, and they didn't die from diseases back then, as they do today, diabetes or cancer, and don't think that their bowels didn't move regularly as well, thus eliminating all of the colon cancer, they eliminated the toxins from their bodies through sweat and perspiration.  They may have been tired, but they had healthy bodies.  So all of these diseases that are out of control today, like Diabetes came along later due to the many lifestyle changes of Americans.
Let us all learn a very important lesson from this bit of history:  According to all legislations and laws today, African Americans can Be whatever they want to be, they can Do whatever they are capable of doing, and they can Have whatever they can manage to work hard enough to achieve.  We know that this is a true statement, when you look around and you see such role models as Oprah Winfrey, the queen of talk shows, Bill Cosby, Michael Jordan, we have had several black Miss America's, including the current reigning queen, we have Tiger Woods, the best golfer of all times and The Williams Sisters, who have broken all records.  The list goes on and on.  Today, we live in fabulous homes; our children can now go to college, (sidebar:  yet we have more African American men in prison today, over 900,000 than we have in college today, only 600,000, that's another article.)
The trouble with this whole thing is, African Americans continue to enjoy many of the delicious foods handed down to us by our ancestors, our diets haven't changed very much, but we've forgotten one very important ingredient, our ancestors worked 12-16 hour days, performing physical labor.  They received the necessary exercise daily, therefore, they didn't get sick with diabetes, and all of the fat was burned off in blood, sweat and tears.
Today, in order for us to get proper exercise, we must plan to have physical exercise at least 30 minutes daily, one-hour is preferable, but no less than 30 minutes.  That's not a lot, compared to the amount of time our forefathers worked, but according to studies done by the National Institute of Diabetes & Digestive & Kidney Diseases, the little time we manage to put in, while exercising for 30 minutes, 3-4 days/week can prevent the occurrence of Diabetes.
Today, we continue in the tradition of eating our "soul food" diets, very much the same as we did 200 years ago, except today, most of us don't use lard, and we can eat all we want.  We've graduated to vegetable oils like Crisco and other vegetable oils.  (Olive Oils are better for us, less cholesterol).  Families today still enjoy foods, which include far too many carbohydrates like macaroni and cheese, desserts, and lots of bread.  We have enjoyed these foods for hundreds of years, but now, we sit at computers, walk out to our cars, drive everywhere, including to the grocery stores, we don't have to walk to school for miles any longer, we can ride the school buses, and exercise has all but been eliminated.  America is overwhelmingly FAT, even our children in many cases are overweight and/or obese.
It's a simple problem, bad diets that includes too much junk food from fast food restaurants, and a lack of strenuous exercise.  How many times have you pigged out, after a hard day, then, you fell asleep?  That food is fattening you up, just the way that it does for newborn babies.  Remember how babies eat and sleep, and soon, you notice their little legs beginning to get a little meat on their bones.  But you can almost look at them grow and gain weight.  But they are still babies, and that's what they need, nutrition to grow.
For adults though, it's a different story, we have already grown up, and all we can do now is grow OUT!!!  We just keep getting BIGGER and BIGGER and BIGGER!  We look bad to ourselves and to others, we can't fit into our nice clothing, we have to keep buying fat clothes.  And worst of all, our hearts cannot stand this, and neither can the rest of our organs.  (I give a speech entitled "Let Not Your Heart Be Troubled" - How to have a healthy mind, body & spirit).  It's no wonder that our starvation genes are reacting the way that they have, this so-called "thrifty gene" that is found in African Americans seems to store even more of this foreign food that we continue to ingest into our bodies.  We came from strong, lean backgrounds, Africa has never been a "fat" nation, but as African Americans, we have Americanized our bodies so badly, that our health problems are out-of-control!
If you take a look at the stats provided by the National Institute of Health, Today, diabetes mellitus is one of the most serious health challenges facing the United States. The following statistics illustrate the magnitude of this disease among African Americans.

2.8 million African Americans have diabetes.
On average, African Americans are twice as likely to have diabetes as white Americans of similar age.
Approximately 13 percent of all African Americans have diabetes.
African Americans with diabetes are more likely to develop diabetes complications and experience greater disability from the complications than white Americans with diabetes.
Death rates for people with diabetes are 27 percent higher for African Americans compared with whites
National health surveys during the past 35 years show that the percentage of the African American population that has been diagnosed with diabetes is increasing dramatically.  The surveys in 1976-80 and in 1988-94 measured fasting plasma glucose and thus allowed an assessment of the prevalence of undiagnosed diabetes as well as of previously diagnosed diabetes. In 1976-80, total diabetes prevalence in African Americans ages 40 to 74 years was 8.9 percent; in 1988-94, total prevalence had increased to 18.2 percent--a doubling of the rate in just 12 years.
Prevalence in African Americans is much higher than in white Americans. Among those ages 40 to 74 years in the 1988-94 survey, the rate was 11.2 percent for whites, but was 18.2 percent for African Americans
Regular physical activity is a protective factor against type 2 diabetes and, conversely, lack of physical activity is a risk factor for developing diabetes. Researchers suspect that a lack of exercise is one factor contributing to the high rates of diabetes in African Americans. In the NHANES III survey, 50 percent of African American men and 67 percent of African American women reported that they participated in little or no leisure time physical activity.

Conclusion
In furthering the causes of this Diabetes Educational Prevention Campaign, the first order of business has been to make my very own Lifestyle Change.  My Mother was buried on December 30th, 2000.  When I returned home to Silver Spring, Maryland, it took a few months before I could go on, the grief period was extremely hard, but the first order of business, was to begin a regular exercise routine.  Walking became my exercise of choice -- two to four miles three to four days each week.  Some weeks I walked, and continue to walk, five days, even six days a week, and recently, I've added "walking up and down the stairs in five minute increments, for 12-15 minutes.  There is an extreme difference in the way that I look and feel.  The pounds and inches have been steadily coming off.
I've changed my diet. I'm now drinking green mineral drinks each morning, (you can buy green drinks at organic stores); and I'm no longer eating white bread.  In fact I don't eat very much bread at all, but when I do, it is whole grain or wheat bread, brown rice, more fresh fruits and green leafy vegetables.  I enjoy using my juice machine for fresh green spinach and carrot drinks.
Recently, I found myself with excellent health results from my physical examination.  My cholesterol level was low, at 126, and my glucose levels were average.  My blood pressure was 120/80, which is fine for me, and I feel wonderful too.   There is one area that I'm still working on, and that is my Ideal Body Mass, IBM.  I'm still overweight, but I've lost 30 lbs., and still counting.
If you are reading this article, and you're at risk for Type 2 Diabetes, consider making a major Lifestyle Change.  It's very simple:  1-Change your diet, eliminate most of the carbohydrates from your diet; 2-Exercise regularly for the rest of your life, and 3-Get rid of the extra pounds, work toward maintaining your ideal body weight.  If you make this promise to yourself, to change your life, you will be "Fanning the Flames of the Diabetes Epidemic in America," and soon the fire will be put out, but it will take millions of people to join this fight.  Won't you begin today?  You don't have to get Diabetes, it can be prevented, you don't have to lose one limb to this vicious disease, nor do you have to lose your kidney.  Change your life, and enjoy your Thanksgiving Dinner - with all of the trimmings, but the next day, get back to the business of getting fit and staying healthy.

Fanning The Flames: The Mind of a Pyromaniac

Word Count:
518

Summary:
The form of psychosis known as pyromania is known for the trademark fascination and obsession patients have with fire. There are several traits that define a pyromaniac, but the primary one is that the fire provides some form of psychological and emotional release from an external or intrla trigger.

Keywords:
mental health, psychosis, stress relief, emotional stability, depression

Article Body:
There are people that put out fires and there are people that start them. The latter category tends to be divided into a variety of groups. There are the ones that start fires for a particular purpose, such as political or financial gain. There are the arsonists, who start fires to break the law. Finally, there are the ones that start fires because, in theory, there is something fractured about their mental health and stability. Pyromania is often categorized as a form of psychosis that centers around fires, explosions, and virtually anything directly connected to the two. People who start fires because of this condition often lack any other motive for burning things other than a deep psychological “drive” or “need” to do so.

Pyromania is characterized not by direct external factors, but the mind's interpretation of them. For example, a period of great stress and tension can be taken as the trigger for the overwhelming impulsive desire to burn. In the psychology of pyromania, the only form of stress relief that will actually work is to start a fire, preferably as big as possible, and then observe the blaze and the aftermath. Other factors can also cause a person's fire-starting tendencies to manifest, such as arousal or the need for release. Regardless of the trigger, fires and explosions universally provide the patient with psychological comfort and release, though there are some conjectured cases of sexual release related to pyromania.

Emotional stability  appears to play a critical role in the development and diagnosis of pyromania. Anger, depression, repression, and loneliness all play a role in the formation of the problem. An exceedingly rare condition, pyromania has often been claimed by various people simply because they enjoy watching fires, but lack any psychological symptoms to show they actually have the disorder. This behavior is often confused by untrained persons as a sign of pyromania, though a similar trait is often found in genuine pyromaniacs. Aside from relief and gratification, the process of starting and observing (and, in some cases, guiding) the flames has also been known to be a source of great emotional and psychological comfort to a pyromaniac.

For treating the problem, behavioral modification is the most commonly used method, though there are other known approaches. One of the less common techniques involves analyzing the underlying psychological roots behind the pyromania and attempting to understand the condition and provide the patient a framework for alleviating the problem. For younger patients, family and group therapy has also seen some degree of use. However, these methods generally produce poor results in patients. Serotonin-uptake inhibitors can be used as a supplement to therapeutic approaches, though they are not usually prescribed.

In a number of cases, recent studies have shown that allowing a patient to carry out their desires in a simulated or controlled environment has the same effect as actually starting a fire. This avenue is still being researched, mainly because there is no evidence that simulated fires are going to provide a long-term release from the problem. Indeed, having someone start virtual fires may intensify the pyromania in the long-term.

There are people who are in drastic need of sleep but just can’t seem to will their bodies to go to dreamland. They toss and turn until the sheets come off their beds, and they get the bitter realization that counting sheep doesn’t actually work.

Insomnia doesn’t just mean not being able to sleep a wink. It also means waking up lots of times during the night, or getting the feeling that you didn’t get a good night’s sleep, or waking up too early in the morning and not being able to get back to sleep.

Almost half of America’s population suffers from insomnia, and practically everyone has experienced it at least once in their lifetime. Some suffer this disorder for years. Insomnia is something you have to be concerned about because it greatly affects your life and those around you.

It makes you cranky and moody, makes you lose your concentration, and in effect makes you lose friends. It could also weaken your immune system, making you more vulnerable to illnesses. So if you’re suffering from sleep deprivation, you’ve got to take steps to cure it ASAP.

You’ve got to diagnose what kind of insomnia you’re suffering from. You don’t need a doctor to do this for you. You can do it yourself.
Insomnia is caused by a lot of factors.

Psychological factors include depression, sadness, or anything that gives you negative feelings. These may arise from traumatic events that you couldn’t get out of your mind (like embarrassing incidents, financial problems, or death of a loved one). Stress, anxiety, excitement, and nervousness may contribute to insomnia.

Physical impediments may also cause insomnia. You have to see your doctor to determine if you’re suffering from any illness. Heart problems or medication may cause sleeplessness.

The food that you intake may also be a factor contributing to insomnia. Don’t take anything that has caffeine in it. This includes coffee, chocolate, and tea. Check the food you eat and trash those that contain caffeine. The same goes with alcohol and nicotine. Like caffeine, these are stimulants that help to keep your mind awake. Alcohol does help induce sleep, but it doesn’t give you a GOOD night’s sleep because of certain compounds it contains that keep some organs (like your stomach) active.

Don’t engage in any exercise too close to bedtime because it increases heart rate, akin to making you excited, and in effect making you unable to fall asleep.

Make sure that everything is nice and quiet by the time you get to bed. Find a bed that you’re comfortable sleeping in. Turn out the lights to help you sleep better.

Stop looking at that clock! You will get stressed out if you do, and it could keep you awake even longer. It would be better if the clock is nowhere near your bed. If you need an alarm clock, turn its face away from you.

Some people actually find some sounds to be helpful in lulling them to sleep. A droning sound that goes on and on, like the whirring of the electric fan or the air conditioner, can help filter out irritating sounds like the noise of horns honking in the night.

Set your room to a temperature that makes you comfortable enough to fall asleep.

Decide on your sleeping schedule and stick with it. Even if you have work and it entails different shifts, stick to a schedule that you could follow most of the time.

Don’t take too many naps because it reduces the likelihood of you falling asleep right away at night.

Don’t keep on complaining about not being able to sleep. It just makes you stressed out. Relax. Have a nice warm bath to relax and soothe your body. Try herbal remedies. You could also attend therapy sessions that help relax your body, like meditation. Sex is another great cure. The main purpose is for you to relax enough to fall asleep.

These are some tips to get rid of insomnia. You shouldn’t ignore the consequences brought about by insomnia because it produces stress and negatively affects your health. Try out these methods, and have pleasant dreams!

It is a SERM (Selective Estrogen Receptor Modulator) that helps to inhibit the actions of estrogen in the body. The drug is popularly termed as Fareston-Toremifene Citrate.

Fareston-Toremifene Citrate is medically used to treat breast cancer. It helps to treat breast cancer by secreting estrogen antagonistic effects in breast tissue. It is sometimes also used for prevention of prostate cancer. The FDA has approved the drug for use in treating advanced (metastatic) breast cancer in the United States. Fareston-Toremifene Citrate is also effective in preventing abnormal growth of breast tissue in men.

Fareston-Toremifene Citrate comes in tablets that are taken orally. The active ingredients of the drug include colloidal silicon dioxide, starch, povidone, lactose, magnesium stearate, sodium starch glycolate, and microcrystalline cellulose. The chemical formula of Fareston-Toremifene Citrate is C26H28ClNO. The drug acts as an estrogen antagonist in the hypothalamus and pituitary in order to increase testosterone levels in body.

Often, Fareston-Toremifene Citrate is compared with Nolvadex, but it differs from that drug in several ways. First, Fareston-Toremifene Citrate has fewer side effects as compared to Nolvadex, and secondly, its lowers down the risks of various deadly diseases, such as cataract, Stroke, and pulmonary embolism. As compared to Nolvadex, Fareston-Toremifene Citrate has greater ability to increase the LH levels. In a steroid cycle, Fareston-Toremifene Citrate helps to prevent gynecomastia. That is why, many bodybuilders feel that Fareston-Toremifene Citrate is better than Nolvadex.

Fareston-Toremifene Citrate, however, has its own side effects. According to a North American Study, Fareston-Toremifene Citrate is responsible for causing Hot Flashes in 35% of users, Sweating in 20% of users, Nausea in 14% of users, Vaginal Discharge in 13% of users, Dizziness in 9% of users, Edema in 5% of users, Vomiting in 4% of users, and Vaginal Bleeding in 2% of users.  Some of the other side effects associated with the use of Fareston-Toremifene Citrate include – cardiac failure, arrhythmia, corneal keratopathy, glaucoma, thrombosis, pulmonary embolism, leukopenia, asthenia, alopecia, jaundice, and depression.

These side effects are the major reason that Fareston-Toremifene Citrate is not approved by FDA, which has sent warning letters to its manufacturer, and ordered the company to stop the production of the drug immediately. GTx, Inc. is presently conducting clinical trials on the drug.

Most people are spending a lot of money on the latest techniques to remove unwanted hair on their faces, legs, arms, chests, backs and private areas. Is it possible to remove hair from such large surface areas? And more importantly, is doing so safe? The answer to both questions is, yes. Removing body hair is possible and if done correctly, and in some cases by a licensed professional, it is also safe.
1. Hair Removal by Laser Treatments.
One of the fastest ways to remove unwanted body hair is by undergoing laser treatments. Although this is the most expensive approach, laser hair removal is the most effective at permanently eliminating body hair. Unlike electrolysis, where each hair follicle must be dealt with individually making the process extremely time-consuming and painful, laser therapy can impact several follicles simultaneously, which greatly speeds up the process. It's great for removing hair from the back and chest, arms and legs.
As stated already however, the costs are extreme. To do an area as large as the back will cost several thousand dollars, and that's per treatment. Several treatments are necessary because the laser technique can only impact hair that is currently in a growing stage. Also, there will be places where hair will regrow and although it will regrow finer and lighter, in order to be permanent, the hair follicle needs to be rendered incapable of growing new hair.
2. Hair Removal by Waxing
The next best method of removing body hair is waxing. Far less expensive than laser treatments and even electrolysis, waxing works by extracting hairs out of their shafts. Because the hair follicle is not specifically and purposely damaged, hair will regrow, but it will take several weeks for it to reappear. Repetitive application of this hair removal process may ultimately affect the follicle and cause hair growth to cease, however, this is not guaranteed which is why waxing cannot be considered a permanent hair removal method.
Waxing, or sugaring if you're sensitive to wax or prefer an organic solution, works by applying a layer of cold or hot wax or a sugar-based mixture directly on the area where hair is to be removed. After allowing to harden it is very quickly peeled away from the skin, in the opposite direction of the hair growth and viola – the body hair is pulled free from that area. The process is repeated until the entire body surface is free of hair. It is possible to do this at home, but since most of us have a low tolerance to self-inflicted pain, you'll get better and faster results if you leave this type of work to someone else, at least for the first few times.
If you think it's time to remove unwanted body hair, whether for cosmetic reasons, sports-related competitions or any other reason, go with laser therapy if you can afford it or waxing. They're the best for removing large expanses of body hair.

A hundred years ago, life was very different here on earth. The air was cleaner and the earth was rich in nutrients. Then, in our need to feed our ever-increasing population, we gradually changed the quality of the air we breathe and our once nutrient rich soil is now sorely lacking. We now live in world of chemicals and pollutants in our air, water and food.

Our bodies, amazing as they are, were not designed to handle this kind of constant onslaught. Is there anything we can do about it? You Bet! You may feel that you can’t change the world, but you can minimize the effects all this has on your body.

Fasting is one of the quickest ways to detox your body and it can be done safely. A three-day fast can do wonders for your body. If you are pregnant or have some chronic health problems then fast only under the supervision of a health care professional.

Our bodies store toxins but wants to rid it self of them. When you do a fast it releases toxins from the tissues and they go into the blood stream. We then can experience things like headaches, fatigue and body aches, smelly stool, etc. Although this may seem unpleasant to experience, the results you get from doing the fast has its reward of a cleaner more alert you.

Have you noticed that when you are ill you don’t feel like eating anything? That’s the body’s way of handling whatever is going on. It naturally fasts. Why? Because when you give the digestive system a break, the body can get rid of the toxins and concentrate on immune function, cell growth and cleaning out your colon.

There is a right and a wrong way to fast. Don’t do just a water fast. There seems to be a misconception that you only drink water to fast. Not so. As well as 8 to 10 glasses of water you should drink diluted pure juices except for orange or tomato juice. Fresh lemon squeezed into water is great for helping detox the liver. Herbal teas a couple of times a day can be very soothing and satisfying.

As well as doing a fast, it would be very helpful in speeding up the healing and cleansing process by doing enemas. Getting rid of old or impacted feces will greatly aid in your health and well being. A coffee enema works great. Before you put the coffee grounds in the pot, open up a capsule of slippery elm bark and aloe vera and add it to the grounds. Make sure you use purified water, not tap water. Then follow with a lemon cleanse.

Between fasting and colon cleansing, you can detox and cleanse your body and feel great.

I hope this helps.

The South Beach Diet, the Zone Diet, the Atkins Diet, the Low Carb Diet, the Cabbage Soup Diet, the Mediterranean Diet, the LA Weight Loss Diet, the Weight Watchers Diet, the Diabetic Diet, the Low Cholesterol Diet, the Prescription Pill Diet, the 3 Day Diet, the Low Fat Diet, the High Protein Diet, the Maker Diet, the Liquid Diet, the Grapefruit Diet, the Fad Diet, the Blood Type Diet, the GI Diet, the Vegetarian Diet, the Vegan Diet, the Detox Diet, the Dash Diet, the Candida Diet, the Gluten Free Diet, the Hollywood Diet, the Negative Calorie Diet, the 1200 Calorie Diet, the Raw Food Diet, the Phentermine Diet, the High Fiber Diet, the Macrobiotic Diet, the Science Diet, the Lemonade Diet, the Scarsdale Diet, the Diverticulitis Diet and the Fat Flush Diet are all examples of diet plans that promise to help us achieve quick weight loss.
Crash diets, weight loss pills and get-thin-quick gimmicks are more prevalent than ever, yet two-thirds of our population is still overweight. Even more startling is the fact that approximately one-third of the people in our country are clinically obese.
With all of these ‘solutions’ available to us, why is it that obesity trends have been alarming enough to prompt the Centers For Disease Control (CDC) to label obesity a national epidemic? Why are we still, as a nation, getting fatter? It’s certainly not because we’re not trying.
On the contrary, as a nation we’re trying harder than ever to lose fat through diet and other weight loss products. As reported by CNN on 1-14-05 “Americans were expected to spend more than $40 billion in 2004 on weight control pills, gym memberships, diet plans and related foods, estimates Marketdata Enterprises, which studies the weight loss industry.” Furthermore, statistics from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) indicate that 80 percent of overweight individuals and almost 87 percent of obese individuals are trying to lose or maintain their weight.
As reported by mygoals.com, 80 percent of Americans made a New Year’s resolution in 2005. A whopping 26 percent of those resolutions were to improve overall health and fitness, making this the top category for self-improvement. This year was no anomaly, either, according to Amy O'Connor, deputy editor of Prevention magazine: "Fifty-nine million people every year resolve to lose weight."
So, is there a healthy diet product out there that will actually work? More than likely, the answer is yes. Although there is quite a bit of fraudulent weight loss merchandise on the market today, there is also (somewhere out there) a diet program and weight loss plan that will work for us. The challenge is to find that diet product or diet plan.
-> Repeat Business
The diet and weight loss industry is a huge money making machine. According to Marketdata Enterprises, the annual revenue for the diet industry was over $30 billion dollars in 1990. A 2005 report by Stanford University documents that the consumer diet industry is now approximately $44 billion and growing. With all this money flowing around, haven’t we as a country spent enough to fix the obesity problem once and for all?
How can the diet industry keep making more and more money, year after year? After all, $44 billion dollars is a lot of cash! The answer to that question is simple: repeat business. “98% of today’s dieters gain the weight back in 5 years. 90% of those individuals end up gaining back more than they lost originally, due to the body’s panic and efforts to stabilize metabolic rates over the long term” (Source: Stanford University; stanford.edu).
How do the diet-promoters get all that repeat business? The diet industry is a very unique enterprise in that, when it fails someone, they rarely blame the product. We are hard-pressed to find another business where, if the product doesn’t work, we blame ourselves. All too often, after giving up on yet another diet program, we find ourselves thinking “Well, I guess I’m just not a good enough dieter.” The tendency is for us to believe that we failed the diet rather than the other way around.
Apply this same logic to the automotive industry, and it soon becomes clear just how faulty this line of reasoning really is. What would happen if we take our car in to the mechanic for repairs and when we returned to pick it up he told us that although we still had to pay the bill, he was unable to fix the problem? Would we willing pay the bill anyway and just say “Oh well, I guess it’s just a bad car?” Of course not! That would be ridiculous! But that’s exactly what we do when it comes to diets.
-> One Size Does Not Fit All
What we need to realize is that there is probably a weight loss product or weight loss plan out there that will work for us, but it may not be the same one our friends or co-workers used. To find the best weight loss program for us, we absolutely must realize that one size does not fit all. What worked for our sibling or spouse may not work for us, and what works for us may not work for them.
It’s probably safe to say that any diet supplement has helped somebody, but it’s also true that no weight loss drug or plan has helped everybody. Each person has a unique metabolism and very individual nutritional needs, so no single plan will work for everyone.
-> How To Find The Right Weight Loss Diet
Some fat burner products on the market today do indeed work. Others are a complete rip-off. How do you tell the difference? Where do you go for accurate and reliable weight loss information?
First and foremost, talk with your doctor. Your own personal physician is likely to be honest with you and provide you with the facts. In addition, he or she can help you decide which weight loss supplement may be right for your personal situation.
There are also quite a few reputable organizations that provide accurate information on fat loss. Some of the better resources include:

American Cancer Society - www.cancer.org
Centers For Disease Control - www.cdc.gov
Diet Scam Watch - www.dietscam.org
Calories Per Hour - www.caloriesperhour.com
Harvard Medical School - www.health.harvard.edu
Mayo Clinic - www.mayoclinic.org
Shape Up America - www.shapeup.org
Calorie Control Council - www.caloriecontrol.org
President’s Council On Physical Fitness - www.fitness.gov

When seeking a healthy weight loss plan, it’s important that no food be strictly forbidden. There should not be any (or many) foods that we avoid completely 100% of the time. Why? Because that sets us up for failure! For example, if fudge is one of our favorites and we force ourselves to NOT eat fudge at the holiday party, then for many of us what we've done is set ourselves up for a binge fudge-festival.
Avoiding our favorite foods entirely is a too much self-deprivation for most people, and this sets us up for binge-eating. That's a recipe for disaster!
A much better approach is to enjoy foods in moderation. Watch those serving sizes! Enjoy and savor one piece of fudge! It's better to enjoy one piece of fudge and then stop than attempt to deprive ourselves entirely, only to end up eating the whole pan.
A good diet and nutrition program will also help us keep in mind the cost of the foods we eat. We're not talking about dollars and cents here, but the FITNESS cost of the food. When picking up that fudge, keep in mind what it will cost to enjoy it. When picking up a plate at the buffet table, let's take a moment to pause and think to ourselves: "The cost of this fudge will be an extra _____ minutes of exercise.....is that worth it to me?" Maybe. Maybe not. That's for each of us to decide on our own.
The point is that we should be conscious of our food decisions. No foods are forbidden entirely, but we do need to watch our portion sizes and carefully consider the cost of each food. Any good weight management program will incorporate these concepts and also will be approved by your doctor.

-> How To Find The Right Weight Loss Supplement
Perhaps even more so than with weight loss diets, when searching for weight loss supplements it is critical to rely on the advice of your physician. The careful and supervised use of weight loss diet pills, combined with a sensible diet and regular exercise, can lead to quick weight loss and even easy weight loss (or at least easier than you expected).
Beware, however, the supplement scams on the market. It seems that every time we turn around we are blasted and bombarded with the latest, greatest, new and improved treatment for obesity. The gimmicks just keep coming. The sad truth is that few of these products work. Even fewer will result in real, permanent and lasting fat loss. A very few of the weight loss gimmicks on the market today are not only a consumer rip-off, but they are also quite dangerous.....even deadly.
As an example, consider the prescription diet drug Meridia. Does it help you lose weight? For some people, the answer is yes. For others, the answer is no. Can it kill you? The answer to this question seems to be a nervous 'maybe'. "The consumer group Public Citizen had petitioned the Food and Drug Administration for a ban, citing Meridia users who died of heart problems as young as their 20s and 30s. Even before Meridia was approved for sale, the FDA knew it could increase users' blood pressure, the group contended." (Source: cnn.com)
This week the FDA again refused to ban Meridia, even though whistleblower David Graham (an FDA drug safety officer) testified to Congress last fall that his agency was allowing five unsafe medicines to stay on the market, including Meridia.
Another example of a dangerous weight loss drug is ephedra. Ephedra was banned in the United States last year, in part due to numerous deaths attributed to this popular weight loss supplement. On April 14 2005, a federal Judge in Utah reversed the short-lived ban on ephedra. Within minutes, spammers were filling our email boxes with messages to BUY BUY BUY before ephedra was banned again.
Yes, ephedra will help some people lose weight. Yes, ephedra is safe for some people in low doses. But there is that little nagging fact that people have DIED and that their deaths have been attributed to ephedra use.....
Yet another example of a dangerous diet drug is steroids. For whatever reason, some people have decided that anabolic steroids are the best way to lose weight. Despite the well-documented and serious side-effects of steroid use, the lure of easy weight loss has caused many to throw caution to the wind. Perhaps the most concerning trend is steroid use among our teenage population: "Teens also listed steroids, growth hormone, amino acids and other potentially unhealthful products among those they'd tried in the previous year." (Source: cnn.com)
There do exist, however, some diet supplements that work and are also quite safe. Again, it is never a good idea to begin any supplementation program without first seeking the advice and approval of your doctor.
Three popular and dependable fat loss products designed to help you lose weight fast are ChromeMate, Lipotropic Plus and Super L-Carnitine.
Chromium helps insulin metabolize fat, turn protein into muscle and convert sugar into energy. ChromeMate, a unique form of niacin-bound chromium, is designed to optimize energy output. It accomplishes this by increasing the amount of glucose available for energy production nearly twenty-fold. It also is the "master" nutrient for controlling blood sugar, which in turn curbs sugar cravings. What’s more, a study at Auburn University showed that ChromeMate reduced LDL cholesterol by an average of 14%. In fact, ChromeMate has been awarded a patent for lowering cholesterol.
The Lipotropic Plus Formula is scientifically-engineered to assist in the breakdown, distribution and burning (oxidation) of fatty acids. The active ingredients actually accelerate the fat-burning process by breaking down fat cells into smaller particles (emulsification) to be used for fuel during exercise.
Super L-Carnitine is essential for fat burning. I.B. Fritz and K.T.N. Yue, physiologists from the University of Michigan, discovered that Carnitine actually accelerates fat-burning. Without it, fat is unable to penetrate the walls of the mitochondria of the muscle cells. Carnitine is the shuttle that carries fat into your body’s furnaces (muscles) to be burned for energy. Super L-Carnitine increases the rate of fat utilization for fuel.

-> Weight Loss Exercise
In this article we’ve been discussing weight loss diets and weight loss supplements. At this point it is essential that we add the third and most important component of overall health and fitness: exercise.
Exercise is one weight loss method that has never been banned, has never led to an investigation, and has never been been listed on a 'whistleblower' fraud report.
Exercise is the only path to health and fitness that virtually every doctor in the world agrees upon. Exercise is safe, effective, and brings many more benefits to our lives than diets or drugs ever will alone. Exercise is fun, invigorating, motivating and the single most powerful way to improve our life and well-being!
Yes, it’s quite possible to lose weight without participating in regular exercise. However, diet and exercise combined will help us burn fat faster than we thought possible! Weight loss achieved by regular exercise and diet will be healthy weight loss because of all the benefits we obtain from regular exercise:

Strengthens muscles
Strengthens bone
Strengthens ligaments
Strengthens tendons
Strengthens immune system
Improves muscle tone
Improves endurance
Improves strength
Improves self esteem
Improves confidence
Improves balance
Improves physical appearance
Improves physical performance
Improves glucose tolerance
Improves circulation
Improves memory
Lower risk of heart disease
Lower risk of diabetes
Lower risk of cancer
Lower blood pressure
Lower cholesterol
Lower risk of stroke
Lower risk of osteoporosis
Lower risk of osteoarthritis
Lower requirements for medication
Lower risk of injury
Lower bodyfat
Helps with sleep disorders
Reduces post-operative complications
Reduces frequency of illness
Prevent Alzheimer’s disease
Prevents muscle loss
Increases metabolism
Eases symptoms of menopause
Healthier pregnancy
Fewer problems with childbirth
Reduces ovulation problems
Prevents heartburn

Reaching your ideal weight via a healthy and active lifestyle has been found to lower health risks and medical problems in 90 percent of overweight patients. In addition to the exercise benefits listed above, fit people are eight times less likely to die from cancer than the unfit, and 53 percent less likely to die from other diseases. Fit people are also eight times less likely to die from heart disease.
Without a doubt, regular exercise is the most important piece of the puzzle and the best way to achieve rapid weight loss. Exercise is the safest way to achieve permanent fat loss, and when combined with a sound diet and nutrition program the body is turned into a virtual fat-burning furnace!
-> Conclusion
Fast weight loss is possible if we, under the supervision and approval of our doctor, combine a sensible diet with a diet pill or weight loss pill that is safe and effective. When we combine these three fat-burning strategies it is almost guaranteed that we will experience quick weight loss results.
Of course, there is a staggering amount of information about health, exercise and fitness that still needs to be understood before this topic of rapid weight loss is complete.
